Having watched my father slowly fade away with Alzheimer’s, then listening to my religious brother blab on, and his cult church belief, it’s like this song was written especially for me.
"Only the hand of grace can end the race towards another mushroom cloud. There's people in power who'll do anything to keep their crown". A song from 2005, so relevant today. I just heard this for the first time yesterday on the series "Yellowstone". And, Happy Birthday to this incredibly powerful singer!!
This song's rhythm and lyrics pulls at my heart strings and is so soothing. Mary, you've found a way to wrap some very hard truths in a warm and comforting robe. Thank you and may God bless and keep you.
"my father sure could use a little mercy now, the fruits of his labor falling right slowly on the ground." WOW, that is some heartbreakingly beautiful imagery of the futility of a mans life. I know what she means. Thank you Mary.
My mum always said she hoped she’d help some flowers and trees grow when she died. She passed away two years ago. I miss her more than words can say. The circle of life. This song is one of the most beautiful I’ve ever heard. Thank you Mary Gauthier.
@@Chanel95-d6u I hope you get this since I see my response don't always print. I am so sorry for your huge loss of your beautiful mother..It sounds like she was always thinking of others over herself. The pain never goes away but it does listen up. Sorrow is the price of love..I wish you peace.
I had not heard ‘Mercy Now ‘until tonight watching ‘Yellowstone’ It is the the most amazing song ever written, Mary Gauthier did a beautiful soul voice recording, tears come to my eyes while listening hopefully we will hear this song in more public platforms……this song is so powerful……
Saw her perform this sitting on a hay bale at the Kate Wolf festival at age 30. I’m 46 now and this song is more meaningful to me each year. Thanks Mary.
I learned of her 25 years ago from the 6 foot 2 Christian girl asigned to my highschool girlfriend's college dorn. She identified so much with tbe 1st two albums and I've followed ever since.
Wow... Within the first one minute of listen to the song I stopped and said I've got to learn this song right now. Absolutely beautiful. It fits my father if it's me fits my brother and everything else. An absolutely beautiful song. Thank you for writing and sharing it. Randy
Damn you, Mary Gauthier! I hate teary eyed Tuesday afternoons - your fault! ... beautiful, just beautiful ... and btw, I sent it to Tom Phillips in Calgary, and he LOVED it! ...
Came here at Amanda Palmer's recommendation, I'm only :50 in, and this was exactly the right thing for right now. Thank you, thank you for this beautiful song 💛
After the battering ram performance of our President last night, Mary Gauthier's song Mercy Now went right to my heart. We are in a "poison pit." and "There's people in power now who would do anything to keep their crowd. . . "and "my country (and every living thing) could learn a little mercy now."
My father could use a little mercy now The fruits of his labor fall and rot slowly on the ground His work is almost over it won't be long, he won't be around I love my father, he could use some mercy now My brother could use a little mercy now He's a stranger to freedom, he's shackled to his fear and his doubt The pain that he lives in it's almost more than living will allow I love my brother, he could use some mercy now My church and my country could use a little mercy now As they sink into a poisoned pit it's going to take forever to climb out They carry the weight of the faithful who follow them down I love my church and country, they could use some mercy now Every living thing could use a little mercy now Only the hand of grace can end the race towards another mushroom cloud People in power, they'll do anything to keep their crown I love life and life itself could use some mercy now Yeah, we all could use a little mercy now I know we don't deserve it but we need it anyhow We hang in the balance dangle 'tween hell and hallowed ground And every single one of us could use some mercy now Every single one of us could use some mercy now Every single one of us could use some mercy now
You've made some very astute observations about this song and Mary's performance of it. I agree with you, it's a very powerful song that had me in tears when I heard it on the radio a few days ago.
I love the look on her face at 2:56. And when she says, "every little thing....". The way she holds the note to say the word, "use" @ 2:52. So beautiful.
Ouvi essa música, no final de um episódio de Yellowstone, fiquei simplesmente apaixonada, embora seja triste, mais é linda, que voz maravilhosa dessa cantora! ❤️❤️
For those 27 people who gave this song a thumbs down, THEY could use a little mercy now.
Maybe they just love Boy George's version better. I sure do.
@@michaelbeard5870 I guess so. Just took a listen to George's version. I think I'll stick with Mary's version.
@@minuteman2006 Different strokes for different folks. I never really liked Boy George's, but he poured his soul into it. Like em both. Great song!
Maybe they're dyslexic
Agreed good brother
My god, this song has never been more needed than now
Such a powerful song! I have never heard of her until this was played at the end of an episode of Yellowstone and I loved it!
Same with me. And now I want it to be played at my dying brother's funeral. I cry every time I hear this.
@@reincemuhammats6463 I Also. Such a Painful, Relevant song. I dare you not to Shed a tear or 2! Love it.

This song is ever so appropriate right now.

Mary and fiddler, thank you so kindly for your soulful gentle music!!!
This song rips me to shreds every time
Been hooked since I first heard it on yellowstone, powerful and emotional, and at times very Bob Dylan.
Came here at Amanda Palmer's recommendation, I'm only :50 in, and this was exactly the right thing for right now. Thank you, thank you for this beautiful song 💛
This song just lays me out flat. Thank you!
Too gorgeous and too true to be real. Just a wonderful song to the frailty of humans. Many thanks. Tom (from France)

Binge watching Yellowstone. This song speaks to me, and I'm into heavy metal. And America
She's amazing. Once again a Second Life musician points me to another bringer of musical light in the darkness

Just saw this magnificent songwriter and performer a few days ago. Well worth seeing. And no, not every song of hers is sad.
The best song i ever heard in my entire life of existence.😊
I had to listen again today. This song is amazing!
Wow! Great find, great music, fine voice and guitar, love the lyrics...a major songwriter for sure...
This is the type of music that should be played on the radio, all the radio stations do is play the same garbage over and over.
I heard this on the radio, radio 1, Ireland driving home from Galway two nights ago. Had to find this girl. Praise the Lord.
Wow! Just wow. I am speechless but my tears speak volume hearing this song!
SO BEAUTIFUL AND TRUE. So talented!
My father could use a little mercy now
The fruits of his labor fall and rot slowly on the ground
His work is almost over it won't be long, he won't be around
I love my father, he could use some mercy now
My brother could use a little mercy now
He's a stranger to freedom, he's shackled to his fear and his doubt
The pain that he lives in it's almost more than living will allow
I love my brother, he could use some mercy now
My church and my country could use a little mercy now
As they sink into a poisoned pit it's going to take forever to climb out
They carry the weight of the faithful who follow them down
I love my church and country, they could use some mercy now
Every living thing could use a little mercy now
Only the hand of grace can end the race towards another mushroom cloud
People in power, they'll do anything to keep their crown
I love life and life itself could use some mercy now
Yeah, we all could use a little mercy now
I know we don't deserve it but we need it anyhow
We hang in the balance dangle 'tween hell and hallowed ground
And every single one of us could use some mercy now
Every single one of us could use some mercy now
Every single one of us could use some mercy now
Gracias, mil gracias...

I LOVE THAT SHE DOES NOT OVERSING HER SONGS. I HATE WHEN THEY DO THAT
With a voice that tells the story exactly with the feeling it was written with needs no over singing.
You might change your mind after listening to Mike Farris's version of this song.
Such a beautiful song, so glad I came across this.
