Thank you, Steven. I'm a lifelong civilian but I have reached for Mary's songs in Rifles and Rosary Beads like a drowning man. As someone who's the sole caregiver for my wife who has dementia and will who will soon need to go into a home of some kind I struggle to maintain my sanity, my strength, my honor, and my kindness. Mary's songs of strength in vulnerability are raw and they heal me enough to carry on some another day, and another struggle. Universe willing, I'll never know what it's like to be shot at and to defend the life of a comrade. What I do know is what it's like to feel alone while doing the most difficult thing I've ever even realized I could do. Caring for a companion who is a deep part of me, a deep comfort, makes me grieve from the first diagnosis, all the way through to whatever end will come. She is dying so gradually. I'm losing her like sand blowing away. Mary hasn't been in my particular situation that I know of but damn, she gets it. She tells the truth. Her truth and our truth. That's a gift and a dedicated songwriter. Good luck brother.
