Hello.. great little camera. Just wondering is there a way to turn the activation light on and if not will it effect the function if I cover the red light up with tape?
I now own 7 trail cameras, 8 batteries in each plus another 8 to replace when needed, 7 32gb cards and another 7 to replace, 7 tripods etc etc, I've made it such a mission to go out I record the wildlife I love so much. This looks like something I can keep in a pocket, use a strap rather than a tripod, buttons look solid. None of my trail cameras are Apemen, but my camper vans front and rear dash cams are, almost all my action cameras are (my bait boat has front and rear facing and one under water) Excellent quality footage!! I can't use Mr Jungle Explores link (I'm British) all I can do is give a money saving tip. 2300mAh Energizer rechargeable. mAh matters, not crappy adverts on TV. Burn the Duracell bunny! JE gives great advice! Cheers cousin.
Thank you for the great comment. I am working on a project at the moment to build a DIY solar power system for these trail cameras for under $20. Like you, I go through an amazing amount of batteries, because I run a dozen cameras year-round. I am producing a video on this project and if all goes well, will release it in the coming months. Cheers

@@paulmoore4344 Although I enjoy making these review videos, my main goal has always been to move my channel towards nature and outdoors. I just have not had the money or backing to take it in that direction. But I am getting there. I am gearing up for a new project where I will be making 4K virtual tours of state and lesser-known national parks. My hope is to eventually from to where I can do these around the world. Here is a video montage of predators I caught on my trail camera in the last couple of months. fb.watch/35DLzeXUtW/
I have no idea what the predators are or what they are hunting. A few graphics (text only) would be awesome. Then the rest of us would know :-) We are on the same path. I told myself off today too. We love our planet, global. Think Big. Think Ignorance. Think Friendship.
@@paulmoore4344 Thanks for the suggestion. The video was made for a facebook group in the US all who knew what the animals were, so I did not put titles in it. There are only two types of animals in the video. These are Coyotes and Bobcats. Here where I live in Texas, there are the two most predominant predators. We do have grey foxes, but these are very hard to catch on a trail camera and they are more rare. We also have Pumas (Cougar, Mountain lion), but they are extremely rare and I have never got a picture of one in 30 years.
Thanks for a very informative review. On the strength of it I've bought one! Being small it's easy to hid and operate. I’ve mounted it on a cheap little tripod so I can position it easily, but as you point out there is the strap to secure it to trees, etc., and the bracket that could be used to fix it to fence posts, sheds, etc. It takes just 4 AA batteries, and although non-rechargeable alkaline or lithium batteries are recommended I’ve found it’ll work quite happily with rechargeable ones. As you say it needs a micro-SD card which doesn’t come with it. It says max 32GB in the instructions, but I had a spare 64GB lying around and it works fine. So far there are 322 10 sec videos on the card, and it’s only used 7 GB in a week, so plenty of memory left. Straight out of the box you’ll need to set date and time, and then you could just use Quick Start which uses default settings to get you up and running. The default mode is ‘photo’, but it’s easy to change this to ‘video’. The default video size is 720P and recording time 10 seconds. If you want better quality recordings - 1080P - longer recordings, etc., it’s easy to change the settings in the menu. All in all I’m really pleased with this introduction to trail cams, and may well invest in either more of these or maybe one or two of the more sophisticated (and expensive) ones, but if what you want is a low cost entrée to these devices, which is cheap to run (4 batteries), easy to set up and hide, has a nice little internal LCD screen for reviewing recordings and produces good quality video then you can’t go far wrong with this device.
According to the user manual the camera supports up to a 32 GB MicroSD card. Here is a link to the user manual: www.dropbox.com/s/d4joyi2sq5wgftb/H40_Manual_Book.pdf?dl=0
Mines been shutting off every blue moon as well as dumping settings, it gobbled alkaline batteries in a couple days in the cold, guess I’ll ask for another one, I saw others mention the motion sensor oxidizing the plastic milky, mines kinda milky and it’s been used a handful of times, it caught a train on video and picture pretty nice as well as various critters etc. just a couple glitches I’ve found.
Mine is still working fine. One practice I do is to never point the camera in the direction of the sun. I always try to put the camera where it is in the shade and never gets direct sunlight. This really help prevent the sun from ruining the sensor cover and housing.
It would have sure been nice if he had mentioned how to turn the thing on to begin recording movement when you have it placed where you want it to record animals when they walk past. It only has the power on button and nothing that mentions that sort of important function. This is the worst trail camera I’ve used and I regret buying it instead of spending another 5 or 10 dollars to get one with a set-to-record switch you turn on that makes it record whatever moves.
Im running 8 of these. My main complaint is having to sacrifice the picture quality in order to get a higher number of pictures in your shot burst. None of my other cameras make me make that decision. Other than that, I haven't had any issues and like the price, size and fact it runs on 4 batteries.
I am so sorry to have to tell that it is impossible to reset the password. The purpose of the password is to discourage people from stealing the device, since they cannot access the setting without the password. If they could simply reset the devices, this would not be a deterrent to stealing Trail Cameras. So, they have intentionally made it so there is no way to reset the device. I know it sucks, but that is why it is that way. I wish I has better news.
There isn't any known way, apparently. I have accidentally set it and now It's asking me for it every time I switch it on :( Tried loads of options I saw on the internet for other trail cams with no luck. I understand why it's not something advertised, but still a pain when you have a legit reason. Anyway, I contacted Apeman directly today and they asked me for the order number (I only bought the camera in July 2021. I'll update with what they say!

How do you delete the pictures and videos on an Ape man H40.
I remove the card and do this on my PC.

Amazon sent a used replacement as new, both cameras failed nearly instantly, apeman tried to bribe a new camera for the bad review.
I wish you had mentioned how to turn it on so it’s set to record. That’s kind of important. This camera will be in my next yard sale.
It is possible your camera is defective.
I can hear the beep everytime you press up or down.
Although it's definitely more of a "click" than a "beep".
👍

Can the camera erase the mini card?

Still no idea how to retrieve footage. I really find this camera very hard to use and don't recommend it.
To get to footage you just need to remove the SD card and read it Ina computer.
What's the password
