Tip: lift up the external antenna even on AM for better reception (no need to extend it), as it interferes somewhat with the internal AM antenna. Same with the DR920c...
I have been thinking of getting an analog radio to play around with. Been having a hard time debating between this radio and the Tecsun R-9700DDX. I just got a Tecsun AN-200 loop last week for my Tecsun PL-990. I see the loop antenna works very well with this radio. So think I'm going to get one and try it out. Alot of reviews people claim the radio is junk. But I value your expertise over some random person on Amazon. Thank you for this video
I ordered one of these radios last night and a good set of actual headphones with a volume control. I`m praying that it`s a good one so I don`t have to go through the horrible replacement process again! Some of my digital radios are too loud on the lowest listenable volume setting because the volume goes up in steps so hopefully the headphones cure that. Some have said that good examples of this radio are hot AM receivers. I`ve got my fingers crossed! I`ve seen people compare the AM reception on this analog radio to the digital Tecsun PL 310et and it blew it away. My 310 sucks on AM unless I use headphones. Nobody has been able to explain this. I even asked the radiojayallen guy and he guessed that maybe it was a ground issue and plugging in the headphones completed the circuit. It works well using headphone though but I don`t normally use them a lot. I tried the cheap earphones that came with the 310 with my Eton Elite Traveler on AM and the hiss wasn`t as bad. Could barely notice it. But using high quality in-ear earbuds with the Eton will drive you nuts. PS: How big is the ferrite antenna in this Tecsun? Do you know?
@@todderbert thanks much for the quick response. Since we are now in this category ($50 range).... Would this be the best option for am dxing? I have seen your video review also of the pl-310et which looks like it is also good for am. What is your suggestion for the 50 dollar bracket?

for what it is this radio is excellent MW radio. My son listens to his every evening. 73 De VE9EUV
Great review! I use radio and loop regularly and really like them.
I have the Tecsun AN-100 Antennna, and is a good help, even with sensitive MW radios. Thanks for sharing
I have yet to try it out with my GE SR and other larger ferrite equipped radios.
Always amazed at what another inductor can do for a radio. The Tecsun R9012 is no slouch on AM either. Nice video.
Thank you Wildcat Creek Survival, it is a great pocket radio. Almost made my top 10 under $20, but the 909 bumped it.
I would choose the 909, both are great, but the 909 gives you SW capability. The Sony may last longer on two AAs, if you only need AM/FM.
Your Welcome John.

Tecsun R 9012 or Tecsun R909, what do you think?I am more interested in medium and shortwaves.
Does bringing the volume up using a loop increase power drain on the radio? What`s the theory on that?
would yuo say that sony ICF-P26 has better reception on MW than R-9012?
What's the chipset inside? Silab si4836?
Tossed between pulling the trigger on this or the r9700dx for AM dxing. I will have to get a loop for either one... Which is. Best for this?
the 9700DX most likely will be the better choice. It has a larger ferrite antenna inside. Also the sound quality will be better on the 9700.

@@Payl0ad My Tecsun PL 310et isn`t a good AM radio for a number of reasons. Get the analog radio.
