    I had some problem following / visualize the positions. I'd love some more graphics. I'm still not sure what the braced position is.

    I found your video very informative. This year I switched from what I would call a conventional saddle on my Cervelo P2 (2006) model to ISM PN2.1 after trying a selection of test saddles out on the road. The reason for the change was that I was getting more competitive with 10 and 25 Mile TT events and the conventional saddle would eventually over heat my lower regions and I would find that I would have to slide around to try and cool down. I've had a reasonably successful year for 10 mile TTs but I noticed that I was using my quads a little too much. So I am trying to find that magic area making sure the glutes are engaged as well as being perched on the end. I guess that just a case of moving the saddle back say 5mm and assessing the position over 20 minute period. I've had a bike fits in the past and I guess the frustration is that each bike fit goes back to square one. Fitter move on etc. So it comes down to me trying to nail down what works and guide the fitter but also having to be cautious about dismissing changes. Anyway its winter time so I have time to work on my position and my flexibility. My aim next year it to improve on my 25 mile TTs times and also try a few 50 mile TTs. I guess I should also say that TTs can afford to use their glutes where as triathletes are happy to save them for the run? It would be true to say that perhaps our positioning may be a little different? Also, I have my saddle perhaps 6 digress down. But I have seen suggestions that actually it should be up alittle if your are perched.

    Right on bike fit advisor really enjoyed the video I just finished up my Guru bike fit system 2 weeks ago and learned a lot about TT bike fit for my personalization. I am getting ready for honu half Ironman next year. And I switched to the praying mantis position from my s-bend more flat position. Previously on my 2009 TT bike I used an Adamo is M saddle as well as specialized Power Pro saddle which I've both like. Currently on my giant Trinity I am using the fizek tritone saddle with short nose and it feels nice as well. I did get a road bike fitting 5 years ago from body geometry but those numbers were totally different from my triathlon bike numbers.
    I did notice a higher wattage by raising my elbow pads with the provided spacers versus old style slam my stem and be as low and dropped as possible. In theory being slammed with a low stem sounds good on paper and sounds more aerodynamic but it really messed up my hip angle as I have a bit of a lunchtime muscle LOL. So to counteract that I had to go to a 165 mm crank arm and previously used a 170 mm. And even though I'm higher on my elbow pads I still get more aerodynamic gains from having a more comfortable position. It's pretty crazy how the stereotypes of aerodynamics are still being passed around as absolute truth.

    as a newbie, this video seemed to have great information but we have no way of knowing what any of this looks like. Where's the graphics to help us understand what you're talking about. Braced vs Perched? What does this look like in real life?

    Great vid.
    I've tried many TT saddles but yet to find 'the one'.
    I'm tall (6ft 5) with long legs, so high at the back which means i have difficulty getting low at the front without destroying my undercarriage. This means I feel as aero as a house brick :(
    My issues are that the further forward i sit on my saddle (Bontrager hilo comp), the more it feels like the nose is assaulting my fleshy bits... but if I sit further back i get friction and soreness with the joins on my legs, my posture also becomes more upright as you mention on your vid.
    I'm caught in the middle and scratching my head what to try next.

    the further forward you are on saddle does it mean you can get more aero or more powerful. I ask as I was thinking of converting my road bike into a TT bike. I can only get the tip of the saddle to 7cm behind the BB rather than the 5cm that I am allowed.

    Im a Danish physiotherapist who is currently taking on the challenge of training for my first ironman i august 2022. Im struggling to find good advice out there on the basic principles of bike fitting. I visited a few bike fitters in Denmark and my feeling is that the advice they give is contradictory and in the end they are very keen on selling expensive equipment. in other words, i dont trust they can do a better job than myself. So far your channel has been the most informative and with the references you give to scientific litterature, I have a feeling you come from a similar background as myself. With my understanding of anatomy and biomechanics I have decided to take matters into my own hands and learn the art of bike fitting from scratch and hopefully save money and headaches down the line. Therefore Im looking for recommendations on good books/articles that would give me the necessary understanding of the science behind bike fitting. I hope you can recommend a few reads that would get me started :)

    What can I do about shoulder fatigue? I can't stay in an aero position for more than a few miles without my shoulders giving out.

      Check the angle of your shoulders and elbows, it should be somewhere around 90°. Your upper arms should be perpendicular to the ground and the arm pads should be directly under the elbows (instead of in the middle of your front arms, where they work like a leverage and your shoulders work harder to lift the whole body weight) so you literally lie on them, so there is no resistance on the upper body and arms. If you have raising bars, try to keep the hands above the elbow level within the natural wrist flexion. Hope these help

    I tend to move forward while putting down more power on my road bike, which is not uncommon I believe. I have had a good bike fit and I was wondering about moving to a more TT type saddle. I was looking at the Pro Stealth model. Whats your view on the use of a TT saddle in normal road bike set up? I do have a pretty aggressive position on my road bike.

      Simon Moses This can work, but you have to be careful. Some TT saddles won't allow for much stability of the pelvis when in the more upright posture of the relaxed road position. hate to make a trade-off of feeling great when you're cranking out big watts in an aggressive position, but never feel right when you're riding at more typical efforts

      That's a great question.....and timely. I actually had an elite-level cyclist in yesterday who illustrated this well because he rode and fit best on a women's saddle. Why this can happen becomes clear when you look at the statistics and realize that there's three times as much variability within each gender when it comes to sit bone width than there is between the genders.

    Yes, there’s lots of really bad advice out there, the internet breeds that. There’s no accountability, everybody is a bike fitter and coach with decades of experience, at least that’s what they print. Bertrand Russell said that lunatics and fools are always so sure of themselves while wise men are full of doubt - that’s social media in a nutshell... The issue with social media is it doesn’t allow for critical review. If everything someone does or says is correct, they start to see themselves as experts - that’s called the Dunning-Kruger effect, and it explains most of the really bad advice out there.
    Why haven’t the good fitters come up with their own forum which encourages critical review and actual testing of methods and practices? I teach pedal stroke based on muscle groups, it goes against what most people believe. I would welcome critical review based on testing, but that doesn’t happen.

    I appreciate the effort to share your data. Sadly you lost me somewhere as it became rather boring even though I am looking for TT tips etc. Perhaps mix up the chat with a bit more action or graphics etc. Or shorter vids. The more interesting it is the more folks will tune in etc...Just trying to pass on feedback.

    😴😴😴Zzzzz.... Too long winded. More visuals, more facts, more studies, sharper points and shorter video. It was good in the beginning then it became soo boring. I suggest u bring in a model or subject to help us see clearer. Keep sharing mister.
