  • In this episode of the show, Binksy, Baldy and Stu look back at India's triumph in the Men's T20 World Cup final.
    We bounce around a bit during this discussion, but start the show by talking simply about what a great game of cricket it was - a game where the momentum swung back and forth throughout the match, with key players stepping up to turn the match all the way down to the final over as India defeated South Africa by 7 runs.
    In a show filled with praise for both sides, we pay special attention to Virat Kohli's innings, Jasprit Bumrah's continued excellence, Suryakumar Yadav's catch, Axar Patel's growing importance, Heinrich Klaasen's power hitting and the two captains Aiden Markram and Rohit Sharma for their part in this thrilling encounter.
    We also hit on the main narratives - the fairytale finish for Kohli, Sharma and also Rahul Dravid, plus whether South Africa choked in their first men's ICC final.
    It's been a lot of fun covering this tournament over the past month, and we'll be back later in the week to take a wider look at the tournament and a few other things going on in the world of cricket. I do not agree to anyone saying that SA choked in this final as they were in the match till SKY caught Miller’s strike.
    If the ball had gone for a 6, SA would have won it .
    Then of course another reason India won was the brilliant death overs bowling by the 3 seamers.
    So, SA lost due to cricket related reasons and not because they choked.

    • @thetoporderpodcast
      @thetoporderpodcast  14 днів тому +6

      Yes totally agree - they played without fear the whole game and put up a brilliant showing. I’m sure a few of their batters (QDK & Stubbs especially) will look back at their dismissals and wish they’d made different choices but they’ve had a great tournament and their fans should be proud.

      @yogeshrajoriya3092 14 днів тому +1

      You are right. They negotiated 16th over of Bumrah very well. Klassen got out but was the right thing to do, hit Hardik out of the park. But I really think that Miller choked in the Arshadeep’s over. He left too much for the last over. Atleast one boundary was needed but Miller seemed too cautious. He also didn’t take much of the strike after Klassen’s wicket. It led to a lot of dots which costed them. I believe that even if that catch was not taken, India would have won with 10 of 5 required.

      That’s why you saw almost all the Indian players and fans crying after the match as it was to release all the emotions bottled up inside since the Nov 19th loss.

      The team now will be under intense pressure to go on from this win to go n win in the next 3 white ball tournaments coming up from 2025-2027.
      There will be no let up of pressure on the players till the time they retire from playing for India.
      The all new white ball team are in Zimbabwe to play 3 bilateral series and these young players will know the pressure of playing for India .
      Good training for them to play under intense pressure from young age.
      Kohli was criticised by millions for his slow scoring rate although he got his highest tournament score.
      This is type of pressure they have to cope with in every match they play for India.

      I don't think score was 20 runs short it's just seem so becoz of tactical blunder from rohit seeing Klassen hitting spinners so effectively he should have gone with hardik that axar over would have not lead to that equation & bumrah 2 overs were gold dust.. so no if ind lost it was ind bowling blame..

    The were 4-5 twists in the game
    1. when India lost 3 quick wickets, their 3 absolute best batsmen
    It was momentum SA
    2. When India hung by a thread and managed to post a total of 176 in the end, despite the early wicket losses
    3. When SA lost 2 early wickets, and the 3rd before 10 as well
    4. When Klassen turned the game with his innings
    5. Last 3-4 overs, when Bumrah, Arshdeep & Hardik turned the game in their favor
    Rarely do you get to witness such drama in a single match, and in a world cup final.

    klassen undid all the work he had done before his wicket to hardik pandya, there was no need to hit that shot, he was not able to understand the tactics of india they delayed the play after axar over, he was not able to hold his nerves south africa and nz have to overcome from being these nearly teams, this will hurt him his whole life, both miller and klassen had to calm down each other they knew that the job was not finished such a naive mistake by both batters so close but so far at the end, they threw it away they let fear and pressure get the better of them during that game.

    • @thetoporderpodcast
      @thetoporderpodcast  12 днів тому

      It feels harsh to say Klaasen threw it away, but agree that him and Miller will probably be hurting because they were so close and it was within the grasp of their ability to get SA home.

    This retirement decision from T20I's by Rohit and Kohli may well revive the ODI format point being BCCI will here on milk the popularity of the duo for atleast another 2 years or so by ramping up the ODI schedule's.

    With around 30 cameras in the stadium, none could pick up the moment the boundary rope was moved by Jay Shah the BCCI secretary but thousands at home around the world saw it clearly.

    SA have never choked since the 99 WC semi final. Their problem has almost always been their weak lower order. They will fix it and Markram will win a WC for SA before he is done.

    • @thetoporderpodcast

      Yes I think that lower order has been an under discussed part of the conversation around the final. Once the Klaasen/Miller partnership was broken that was the end of their recognised batters, even if Jansen, Maharaj and Rabada have played handy knocks in the past.
