Trying out the Polaroid Sun 660 Autofocus camera with some current ‪@PolaroidOfficial‬ 600 film. This was an Ebay find, and I wasn't even sure if it was going to work, but I was pleasantly surprised with the results. The Sun 660 was released in 1981. It shoots Polaroid 600 film (which is still available), has sonar autofocus, and comes with a built in flash. A great camera for someone looking to try out instant photography.

My nostalgia for 80s things is strong, albeit tempered by the fact that we didn't actually own any of these things in the 80s due to the cost.

I love the colors of Polaroid pictures. As someone that grew up in the 80's I guess nostalgia plays a huge part; it reminds me of certain record covers, early hiphop and graffity, and even Andy Warhol. I remember it got a certain arty status and following pretty early on.
Now, the right thing to do with the developed pictures is to stick em on your refrigerator or tuck em between the frame of a mirror. 🙂

Simply Polaroid film modern has same color palette of first 1981 version more similar to conventional 110 Kodak film whit red/purple shift

Very cool! Kinda ironic that it takes so much longer to develop. I remember my friends waving and flapping the photos after they spit out of the camera--like that would make them develop faster. Ha!

That style of Polaroid came out in the late '70s, I believe. That was when I worked as an adjuster for a large insurance company. The Polaroid was with me all the time, along with the mini cassette recorder for taking statements. Man, that was before 1981, when I got into industrial sales. Memories. Never used an autofocus, because they didn't exist them. You should try to get ahold of a REALLY old camera. You had to pull the print out and wait one minute, before separating the picture from another piece of paper that contained the processing chemicals. Then you had to coat picture with a really smelly sponge, otherwise the image would disintegrate almost immediately. Good show today!

600 film was released in 1981 (Autofocus / SLR680) :) with the sonar/autofocus editions released later that same year

I have an old Polaroid 100 Land camera from the early 1960s that used the peel apart pack film. Unfortunately, you can't get the film anymore.

    • @ilmago5291
      @ilmago5291 5 місяців тому

Yes was Polaroid packfilm peel apart;in 1983 Polaroid stopped to sold this and apparently film for it was discontinued but was only renamed in professional catalog for passport cameras and camera back for professional use;integral film whit no tab to pull and not negative to peel costed half and was used in compact cameras that from 1981 has not only battery in packfilm but also electronic integrated flash vs old cameras peel apart big whit single use obsolete flash and rare and expensive battery;only in 1976 Polaroid used simply aa battery in the major peel apart packfilm camera but only 2 model 360
      Of 60
S and pro pack of 80
S and another camera of Berkeley used electronic flash proprietary and only professional expensive manual cameras like model 180 of 60 s and 195 of 70 s had x synch for use electronic flash not proprietary

Polaroid was popular with people who wanted to take naughty photos because generally the various photo labs would not develop those ones.

Yes. It was kind like how sexting gets used today. As I understand it, today polaroids get used today for crime investigations because they can't be doctored easily.@@ldmun

On some models they used to include a little metal folder to place exposed pix between and put in your inside pocket to warm it up so it will develope quicker.
There should be a button you can twist to make pix lighter or darker before you take a picture.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube

I've seen those! They recommended that you put it under your arm to develop!

Was called cold clip for peel apart film whit tab to manually pull and negative to peel and discard to develop under 13 grade Celsius;probably ok now for modern automatic ejecting film also but I prefer color shift more nostalgia vibe

i looked into this last year and the price has come down on the film in the last year, if i remember it was about 3 dollars a picture then. i always felt it was to take pictures at a party of people or a family gatherings of people as buildings and architecture was not as well. now with digital pictures we want clarity and artistic style of shots. but that was not what the camera was made for. thanks for the review as it was something i was thinking about.

Photography as art. Has a certain initial ‘washed’ quality to it, probably due to exposure. A later look after some time will be the tell tail of this. Interesting and worthwhile in reviewing, but very niche. 👍

I think the cold day had a lot to do with that too! I've taken to putting the pictures under my coat, next to my body so they develop better.

Polaroid film sx 70’and derivates is a negative that print on transparent Mylar;if you peeled away from negative you are only transparent image;to make opaque a layer of titanium bioxide is used in the back but dyes pass through it and picture is pastel tinged in Color palette and faded vs Kodak and Fuji that not print on Mylar transparent but use direct positive sigma crystal that make black the back and silver was transported in the front part;was a direct positive picture and can be peeled away from Mylar and frame and dyes not pass on titanium bioxide and is reason because Kodak and instax that is professional quality version of old Kodak system take always more sharp pictures better in resolution and contrast and use of white opacifier make more color accuracy because if sun cooked it picture can be in worst case “too white “ vs Polaroid that sun if cooked opacifier now make blue flame problems

I bought it and put in trash;flash totally died;sharpness is a bit better of basic 600 and 635/636 af but sonar not is 124 zones focus of sonar sx70 680 690 camera but has only 5 zones;impulse and spectra was very very better;660/670 af now 80% of this has flash died;for me absolutely overrated camera:best 600 box camera in look but not make strong difference whit basic 600;people was ipnotized from big circle gold of sonar module but has 5 zones;impulse and spectra and passport cameras sonar had 10 zones but circle gold of sonar is more miniaturized and make less scene😂 for me 660/670 are better only for paperweight or for complete a collection;not has 3 plastic Elements lens but single plastic lens and other 2 lens whit a ring that rotate it in accord to distance that sonar calculate;resume use always 2 plastic lens like major part of modern instax camera
