I grew up when the world was fun still a kid in the 70s playing pick up baseball games riding bikes exploring nature. My son grew up in the age of travel soccer and pressure to be a professional athlete at the middle school level lol. He stopped playing because it wasn’t fun. He later while in the military started playing pick up soccer games and found a network of guys who loved to play for the sake of the game. He has never had more enjoyment out of sports in his life and he’s become an amazing athlete for the right reasons. Sports are a great example of how parents go nuts with their kids and steal their joy
Hah! We used to just play in the woods. Mount "scientific expeditions." Then we'd ride our bikes up and down massive hills for hours, be sad we had to come in when the street lights came on, and sleep very, very well. No one was fat. That's for sure.
Merton in one of his writings states: So many people spend so much time trying to climb the ladder only to realise at the end that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall!" How powerfully true!
I consider Bishop Barron to be the successor to Bishop Fulton Sheen. The good Bishop makes the teachings of Jesus very accessilble to those who are seeking Him. Bishop Barron is a great communicator!
Fulton sheen did not teach the Vatican 2 religion as far as I am aware. Bishop Barron does teach these new doctrines that have been condemned by the Catholic Church and is leading people away from the Catholic Church.
My husband and I are in our 80s. It is not easy to accept the reality of our lack of abilities to do. Thank you for showing us how to accept that reality as God's Plan for us. God's Will not mine. God bless.
My intention of getting promoted in my job is sheer egotistical, self centred and lack of self esteem. Oh vanity of vanities. Lord have mercy on my foolishness. Confessed yet I still return to these foolish thoughts.
I am a substitute teacher. It is beneficial for my daughters that I am able to work periodically and focus on their needs, more than working full-time and being preoccupied with others' needs. On a daily basis, it feels that I have to continuously state my credentials for people. What school I went to, why I am only subbing and not teaching full-time. Basically, in their eyes, why are you settling for less. It's exhausting! I had my children to raise them, not to throw them in daycare and virtue signal that I'm a superwoman because I can work full-time and have kids, too. I've acknowledged that I can not do it all and have accepted that. ❤ I don't want the honor. I want to raise healthy, well-rounded, psychology sound children who can face this materialistic world with grace, integrity, and intellect.
I stayed home for 17 years to raise my family. Then went into profession I loved. Became very successful at that. There is a time and season to everything under heaven.
I also get this a lot. Most people think that contributing to a society is more important than contributing to your community. Most people think that in order to contribute to a society, you have to work a full time job. Most people think that for prosperity to last, every able person must work a full time job. This social inquisition attitude is in a way, a response to fear, jealousy and envy. God judges the works. I do what I think to be sincere and good.
@evermoreart Yes, you're right. I don't hold judgment to those who work to keep their children comfortable and safe. Every is different, and I wholeheartedly respect that. 🙏
What freedom awaits when we lift the yoke of competing for honors and replace it with the yoke of Christ which means loving all those we come in contact with.
With every sense of humility my lord Bishop Barron, I see you as the 21st century Thomas Aquinas. You are a very good teacher. God bless you real good! You are a gifted teacher and preacher. To God be all the glory and honor.
Can you imagine being that child, simply unaware yet being entirely what God made him or her to be, being embraced by the physical Lord? We can comprehend this now looking back, but imagine the disciples in their bewilderment at this, not grasping the reality of it all. Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ!!
Every sermon of yours opens a new window to reveal something fabulous, a deeper insight into the words which makes me think, ponder, absorb and marvel. God bless you dear bishop
Thanks Bishop Barron, I want to climb the ladder that takes me to Jesus. I don't know how far I can climb but one step at a time, I will reach as far as I can then Jesus will pull me up.
Thank You Bishop Barron, for this wonderful reminder of joy, love and effervescence and being child-like in the Lord's Presence in grace of Faith Hope and Love. Blessings, always ❤
Thank you, Bishop Barron! How insecure we are wasting time talking about the insignificant things when we can just enjoy the presence of Jesus in our daily lives.
This homily is among your best and this is so true .we need to pray for a spirit. Of Humility. Get RID OF THE LADDERS IN LIFE. THANK YOU FOR THIS WISDOM....TO HAVE A BETTER WORLD
What an insightful sermon! The wisdom of God on display, both in the message and the Bishop who delivered it! We bless God for the gift of Bishop Barron to His Church!
Jesus (and Bishop Barron) did not say we’re to be non-judgmental, he said not to judge by man’s standards of honor, wealth, success, etc. (the ladder) but judge by God’s standards, what does He want us to be?
Simplicity and humility of childlike character is a great way to be mindful of God's given grace to not be overtly immersed in egoistic world of materialism and indifference..
I finally understand this verse. Thank God for bringing you to my life Bishop Barron. I've learned many things from you. May God always bless and keep you. 🙏
Thank you so much for this profound message, reminding me of how much Jesus loves us and tells us to forget the ladders and be with Jesus, keeping Him first.
You were the last thing I thought of when I went to bed last night and the first thing when I woke up this morning. Just wanted to let you know how much I love and appreciate you. Wake up, beautiful. Every sunrise reminds me of your radiant smile 😊 Thinking of you fills my day with Joy...💕💕
Thank you for that excellent summation of that Gospel. I'm afraid though that children have no difficulty putting themselves first in line without it being taught. I taught my children what I was taught: show respect; be helpful; hold the door for your mother (and by extension, everyone). They did all that and still proved very dogged and inventive about getting what they wanted (they also learned great loyalty and kindness, thank God) Status, Jordan Petersen pointed out, is a baked-in concept from Lobsters on up. No wonder it took God to show us the better way.
I never fail to learn something amazing from one of his homilies. Thank you again for challenging me to look at the Scriptures from a different perspective.
I pray for our leaders who’ve been placed far up the “ladder”. May they maintain humility and a childlike joy for simplicity so that the harsh reality of power doesn’t corrupt them completely. Great leaders such as Lincoln and Churchill and King David fulfilled roles that God needed for his people. While they stumbled they did not fail.
Boy, does this hit home. Purely by Providence, I've been dwelling on this very point in my prayers. Bp Barron gets it all out there in 15 minutes. Thank God for his work!
God bless you always bishop Barron .. you are a true shepherd , in you there’s no confusion. The Holy Spirit shine’s bright in you. Glory be to God 🕊️🙏🏾😊
To quote a great martyr of the 20th century, Dietrich Bonhoeffer (from Letters from Prison in Schlingensipen's biography of him): "If one has completely renounced making something of oneself... then one throws oneself completely into the arms of God." Thank you, as always, Bishop Barron.
Wow. What an insight Bishop Barron presents. Completely changes my understanding of this biblical story and in some important ways is life changing for my understanding of God’s desire for how I should interact with others.
Thank you Bishop! Loved the ladder story; to be childlike and not childish - huge difference 😉 I’m understanding this better now that I’m nearly 64 😂 peace be with you ✌️❤️
This is exactly what l needed to be reminded of today, thank you Bishop... Surely l am leaving in a typical "ladder society"😂,where questions like, which university did go to, whats your position at work, which company do you work for..do you have kids(which school are they attending) ,Are you married (and to whom matters) is the order of the day..if your answers dont meet the standards (only God knows who set them😢),you are as good as ldentifying yourself as a "failure in life"...😅
Una de las cosas que admiro, de las explicaciones del Padre Barron, es su habilidad para aterrizar conceptos teológicos con ejemplos sencillos de nuestro diario existir. Ahora le toco a la escalera.
I love this sermon. It enlightens, it guides, it stirs the heart and nourishes the soul. Of course there is an added flavour- it has a distinct touch of good hearted humour and I loved that. Thanks Bishop Barron, you are one of my online spiritual mentors. Sincerely hope I meet you in the flesh one day. But meeting in the Spirit, suffices.
One thing I've noticed about children in general: they don't find it difficult to believe in God, in the concept that someone created the world. Then when we become adults, we become atheists or agnostics. Bishop Barron draws out a great lesson from this scriptural passage.
I went to Sunday Mass today and so I almost didn't click on Bishop Barron's homily. I am SO GLAD I did. Wow! Beautifully said and what an impact it made on me. God bless you Bishop Barron!

Parents steal their JOY!! Isn't that a sad truth?
Wait but it was your son... so whyd you pressure him?
Prudent. Same here.
Merton in one of his writings states: So many people spend so much time trying to climb the ladder only to realise at the end that the ladder is leaning against the wrong wall!" How powerfully true!
Greetings. 🙏 I was pre occupied with the ladder when I was younger but now I find joy in the very simplest of things and I feel Peace.😊✌️

Simplicity paves the path for usefulness. The Lord wants us to be available for the fulfillment of His Holy plans.
Simplicity has become my "mantra". Life and closeness to God is so much better that way.
How many times in my life have I heard that bible passage at mass??? Today, I understood it. Thank you!
God, help me be the person that YOU want me to be. Amen
Amen
As a Protestant, I can't agree more! Well done, bishop! God bless you!
If you knew true Christianity, you wouldn't be a protestant.
1 Timothy 3:15!

Beautiful Sermon! I wish I could bottle this sermon up in a bottle and spread it across the world! Blessed Sunday!
Wealth, pleasure, power & honor… mundane indeed. Thank you, Bishop!
Another sermon W from the goat
*"Let us ask the Lord for this grace: that our hearts become free and filled with light, so that we can rejoice as children of God."* - POPE FRANCIS
Amen.
Let us ask that we only kneel before God, before the Holy Trinity
When we kneel before God, we are not humbled, but we are more than Blessed
May God bless Bishop Barron 🙏🏻😊We need his voice more than ever !❤!
SPOT ON about a CHILD in Jesus's time. Again Bishop Barron nails it! 👍
As a long time successful entrepreneur I'm now working on becoming EGOLESS🙏
This was incredible! We are wasting time focusing on wealth, pleasure, power and honor. None of them in the grand scheme of things matter.
The most important passage in the gospel to me, that the way to the Kingdom of God is through remaining child-like, rejecting pride and honors.
Thanks Bishop Barron, I want to climb the ladder that takes me to Jesus. I don't know how far I can climb but one step at a time, I will reach as far as I can then Jesus will pull me up.
Jesus knelt down and washed the Apostles' feet!!! That's how you "Climb the ladder to him"!

God want's us to be non-judgemental, healthy in mind, body and soul. Bishop Barron is God's voice.
Where "in the word of God" are we to not be judgmental? The entire New Testament is about making then right judgments.
Jesus (and Bishop Barron) did not say we’re to be non-judgmental, he said not to judge by man’s standards of honor, wealth, success, etc. (the ladder) but judge by God’s standards, what does He want us to be?
...But the Mount ✝️
does count.
Thank you and God bless you, Bishop Barron!
