On 3 September 1999, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman attended the UK premiere of Eyes Wide Shut in London's Leicester Square. It was the final film directed by Stanley Kubrick, who died of a heart attack days after showing the final edit to Warner Bros. The film's release was accompanied by frenzied media comment on the film's nude scenes, sexual themes, and the on-set dynamic between husband and wife duo Cruise and Kidman, whose real-life marriage paralleled their characters in the film.
