Rajagalathenna, Rajagala Ampara ,Sri Lanka

This sacred place is in the Rajagalatenna village in Uhana District Secretariat Division of the Ampara District in the Eastern Province. In the past Rajagala known as Rassahela was one of the premier monastic complexes in Sri Lanka that emerged since the advent of Arahant Mahinda.The Rajagala archaeological site is only second to the Mihintale monastery in Anuradhapura and it spreads over 1,600 acres. It consists more than 600 prehistoric ruins, monuments and artifacts, and nearly 100 of them are ancient stupas.Access to the mountain from Ampara Town is about 24 kilometres north of Ampara - Maha Oya Road(A27), via Uhana and the village of Bakkiella.
