Elephants have the ability to swim for hours without touching the bottom. They have been observed swimming for at least 6 hours and traversing over 20 miles per day in water. In the 1800s, elephants were taken from India to the Andaman Islands where they were trained to swim in the ocean to transport logs from island to island. Elephants are exceptional swimmers.
So much we have in this small Island !
Yes, indeed!
This is unique. Never been here. Should go there soon. Not heard of swimming elephants elsewhere in Sri Lanka.
Yes, lovely location
@@AegleCreations can elephants in other parts of Sri Lanka swim? Not possible right?
@@praxd9778 They can, but most of the time they live in forested areas so they don’t need to swim. Here, they have to swim to reach the islands to feed.
@@AegleCreations I see thanks a lot. May be these elephants are descents of those who came from India swimming while long before during Pangea era, we still would have had elephants here
Superb Filming ! Specially of Elephant Swimming .Many Thanks for taking us to the Best in Sri Lanka . Best Wishes to Dr.Mahendra Perera involving beyond your subject ,supporting Thivanka on his Valuable Efforts . Congratulations 💕💖
I was fortunate to enjoy that very same boat cruise in 2018 and also saw the herds of wild elephants and their calves, Also must mention at fishermen sell their catches on the shore line. The nearby town of AMPARA has some truly fascinating ruins of previous civilations in the national park dating tens of thousands of years within the jungle, Some structures show granite blocks that have been split with such precision it looks like it was laser cut tens of thousands of years ago, Definitely defy explanation …….😂
I stayed 2 nights at the wildlife Bangalow in April. it was so amazing. two elephants who came down from the rock swam to an island left to the bungalow.
Amazing and unbelievable ❤
Beautifully photographed, accompanied by an informative and useful commentary. One of the several beauty spots the Pearl of the Indian Ocean has to offer. Thank you.
Thanks!
Good commentary well done but the local names are pronounced wrong it should have been checked before airing/ releasing it.
