Thanks for the thoughts on the Jets... as Ehlers' biggest fan, I am banking on him taking a team-friendly deal and staying in Winnipeg for his entire NHL career. He has looked happier than I've seen in a long time since being paired with Lowry. They play well together. And when I look at Lowry's stats this year, his numbers (playing primarily a shutdown role) are higher than Vlad Namestnikov's numbers (who got 2nd line C slotting until he got injured). But some people think Lowry can't do the 2C, even though his numbers show he has been the second best centre all year long. (Scheifele being the 1st). I believe we will see career stats for Lowry if he stays with Nik because Nik gets him the puck and can work magic with his speed and skill on the ice. Of course, I'm concerned now about Lowry's injury, hoping he'll be back for the game vs the Avs. He and Nik and Iafallo shut down the MacKinnon line and got Helle a shutout last time we played them. Our stumbles in games primarily happen when we lose important roster players (like Ehlers and Samberg earlier in the season and now one game was lost when the Captain wasn't in the lineup). Otherwise, the play has been stable all season, from what I've seen and I watch the numbers closely to see if the stats match the eye test from me. it is a bit of a stumble, yes but Jets will come roaring back to life, I can promise you that, Shannon. And I'd be over the moon if the boys could win the President's Trophy this year. Don't count them out yet.
As an NJ fan, concerned is exactly how I would describe it. At the start of this slump I was like “ok it’s just a slump, a few games and they’ll be back to how they were playing before Christmas.” At this point the slump is going on much longer than any NJ fan would like, so I am concerned and would like to see something change, not exactly sure what
Christmas ruined their game. sometimes you a break at the right time, this was not the right time.. they could use that break now tho lol.. the bottom 6 had reared its ugly head right now and a shake up needs to happen
I see a similar thing with the Pathers. They got shutout 4(?) times in December and recently their offense has looked a bit dry. Maybe it's hangover from Lord Stanley, but also this season it seems like anyone can beat anyone regardless of where they are in the standings. "Better" teams have to bring their A-game every night.
NJ needs to trade away Meier, maybe to Seattle for Burakovsk & a 1st Rd pick in 2025 or 2026, or to Cgy for Dman Ras Anderssn or Weegr along with a prospect (Kerins, Ciona, Klapk, Stomgrn, Basha, or Luke Misa). NJ can also trade Mercr for JT Miller, NJ can throw in a 2nd or 3rd Rdr as well.
@antom3117 I've watched every game but a few and while they have been getting better they're 1 in their last 6 or 7 and have been outplayed a lot and when they get the chances they haven't been hurrying except for the game yesterday, and they haven't been getting a lot of saves when they need it
@antom3117 I've watched every game and from what I've seen they aren't playing well until it's too late, and haven't been scoring until yesterday, and then we didn't get the saves we needed
Resigning Ehlers is a must. Not convinced Pionk is the answer. Kovacevic, Chisholm come back to Winnipeg! We need size on our D! We also need a 2c who can play with Ehlers. Lowry has been excellent with him on line 2 - but now he’s injured. Perfetti is not a 2 C . He’s also been dry offensively.
Jets have Lambrt or Yagr, either will be a good no. 2 centre. Lambrt might need to stay this yr (his 2nd yr in the AHL) all yr, & Yager is likely a couple of yrs away from being a regular NHLr, but both should fulfill this role nicely. Lucius is also an option at centre. So the Jets have 3 options. My guess its Yagr who becomes their no.2, the other 2 get put on the wing or become no.3 centre. Perfet can play either wing. My guess is they resign Ehlrs & Vilard to 5 or 6 yr deals this summer. They will let Pionk walk as a UFA, along with Appletn, Iafal. Jets will resign Namestnikv (UFA) to 1 or 2 yrs, & Kupar (RFA), & Barrn (RFA) to 2 yr deals, who become their 4th line next yr. My other hunch is that Connr signs with Chic, NJ, Det, Pit, Phi, Mtl, or LA for 10.5+ million on a 7 yr deal not this summer but next one, the Jets either get like a 3rd Rd pick for him walking kinda like Guentz or they get nothing for him walking. Jets need to make room for Barlw, Perfet, & Chibrikv who all play left wing, Niedereit has 2 more yrs after this yr, and he is naturally a leftwinger, as well as Barrn & Zhilkn. So, they will be fine without Connr. Rightwing they will have Vilard, Lambrt, and/ Lucius, & maybe even Namestnikv. Down the middle they will have Scheif, Yagr or Lambrt, Lowry, Kupar, Gustafsn, as well as Barrn as options. The Jets also have Julien (Cntr), Waltn (Cntr), Loponen (Cntr), Wagnr (Cntr), He (LW), Levis (RW), & Nehrng (RW), & whoever else they draft the upcoming yrs developing. Jets can sign another cheaper option for Dman than Pionk on the UFA market this summer. Heinol will get more icetime starting next yr. Jets will also extend Sambrg, H.Fleury this summer. With the departures of Applet, Iafal, and maybe 1 of Barrn or Kupar, the Jets can sign a veteran UFA for their bottom 6. Milic will likely become the no. 2 behind Helleyb.
I don’t disagree, but it’s more than that. To me they just aren’t finding the net. They get decent looks frequently, but then hit a player, or the goalie, or miss wide by an inch. Every good opportunity feels 1 inch off the mark. It’s why it’s felt like we’ve been goalies so many times. Idk how to fix that. Maybe line changes, but if the chances are there, how do you get guys to hit twine? Idk. I’m very worried. Not dooming yet though!
I think Jersey turns this around, the bigger concern for them will be the playoffs. I have not watched a ton admittedly, but what I have watched of them, they don't seem to have the grit that is needed for deep playoffs runs. sometimes teams hide that til the playoffs start, but currently I am unsure I see it in them.
You definitely have not watched enough of them then. I personally think they've overcorrected this summer with the grit. With Cotter, Dillon, Palat, Meier, Lazar, Haula, Siegenthaler, Kovacevic, Noesen, MacDermid 🙄 there are alot of physical guys, but also alot more slow players on the roster which really take away the identity of the team. I was hoping for a roster constructed like the 2022 Avs, but it feels like Fitz is trying to go the Panthers route instead. The Devils also need finishing help for Jack, as we have not replaced Toffoli from last season, and a 3C, as Lazar has taken a step back. If they get those things, I think we'll be in a good place.
@andrewi559 its only been like 5 games I watched of them and the phyicality wasnt there in those games. However, thats why I prefaced it that way, because lord knows I have seen really physical teams have slow games. Sorry for being innacurate on that end
Minnesota are 6-4 last 10 and Winnipeg 4-4-2. They're doing better than Winnipeg, even though I do agree with you that they've also had their struggles.
Plus, Winnipeg has swept Minnesota over the last 2 or 3 seasons. I think their last 11 games or something. If I were the Wild, I would not want to meet The Jets in the first round again.
historically, Winnipeg often stumbles in the back half of the season and, more or less, backs into the playoffs and then falls apart early in the post season. 2017-18 was the only season that they looked ok in the post season. Jets should make the playoffs, but unless they get back to playing at the level they started the season withl we're probably looking at another early exit.
Thanks for the video! Great info, details, and insights! Jets are a top five team and the Devils are a top ten team. Problem is, you need to be a top four team that can become a top two team, and then step up to be number one!
As a Devils fan, would love the addition of Granlund, or at least O’Reilly. Third line is our worst line and we need both a winger and a center that can play 3rd/4th lines. Great game vs Boston (was there).
I know its off topic but I thought of something. We can agree that this Canucks drama seems to be more about Miller than Miller and Petey? When asked about their relationship Petey got visibly frustrated at having to answer the question. Almost as if he felt, as Boudreau stated last night on TSN, that the media had overblown the entire story. "Mountains out of mole hills" was the phrase Boudreau chose. Now, Petey also came out and publicly declared his interest in staying in Vancouver - while JT Miller is still his teammate by the way. Nobody thought that was strange? Miller didn't publicly declare his interest in staying and took a leave of absence. Now we all know Canadian NHL markets are a fishbowl, of which the media plays a significant role, and many point to Vancouver as the most aggressively microscopic. I can't help but think this is far less about Miller and Petey and more about Miller and the media. I'd bet Miller has had enough of people like Farhan specifically and just said, "I'm out." And I'd bet he has nothing bad to say about Petey or even the city itself. So while the media will admit Canadian markets are more intense, and players often choose other places because of this extra intensity, in a moment like this, where we are all baffled at how two grown men can't get along,, maybe it isn't even about them, maybe it's about the media's disturbing habit of getting into the personal lives and relationships of the players just so they have content to peddle. Sports media ventures too often into TMZ territory. Participating in low frequency gossip, conjecture, and speculation. The lowest forms of communication. I personally would be OK seeing another three or four of the ever-dwindling number of reporters in Vancouver dismissed of their duties and sent packing starting with Farhan Lalji.
For NJs UFAs it is pretty simple: Tatar, Bastian, Allen - all out. Lazar - keep. Kovacevic - probably won't be able to keep him because of Luke's upcoming contract and Nemec / Casey coming soon.
Devils have two scoring lines that are struggling to produce and hardly any depth. Their fourth line is good for what it is, but you need much better from the top two. Better puck possession and time on attack in the offensive zone. Some two way hockey would also be an asset, so many blue line and neutral zone turnovers and nothing from the forwards resembling an effective back check. Markstrom acquisition should be a sure-fire into the playoffs this season, but how many clutch saves per game can you have? Palat, Meier and Hischier need to play better if I was to call anyone out, though Hischier has been trying. 3rd line is abysmal there needs to be some shake ups there. I'm less worried about the Jets, they can afford a January slump, and other teams are going to play better against them as the season progresses. Still think they will hold the top of the Central division, they honestly can play .500 hockey from this point on and still manage a decent season. I still don't think its their year to take the conference, pretty sure its all Oilers through to the final, but if a team was going to upset the Oil, its probably the Jets this year.
I like you highlighting their upcoming schedules. Wpg needs to show their conference "something," or the sharks will start circling. No way to go into the playoffs with 55% win rate.
Exactly. The Jets need to play the right way for an extended stretch of games, instead of it being on & off. As, Shannon said in another video, if this team keeps showing bad habits in the games with Comrie, it's going seep into the games Hellebuyck plays. Not to mention, people keep talking about how great the top line is, but yet, they disappear for games at a time. They don't need to score every game, but they need to be factor in most of their games. You don't see Tampa's top line disappearing for games at a time. Or Colorado's. Or Vegas'. And the Jets top line going AWOL gets exacerbated by the fact that they don't gave consistent scoring from the other lines to pick up the slack.
My 2 favorite teams are the Caps and Devils (i know, weird to have 2 teams in the same division) but I'm a Caps fan first and foremost. The Devils have talent, no denying that. Ive wanted them to be a playoffs team again for years so i hope they figure it out. But, I do love what my Caps are doing rn. Go Caps.
With the amount of parity in the league, it’s not that these teams are struggling, it’s more a factor that a long season, injuries, etc is a grind. Jets stunk it up against Utah but then beat Colorado in Denver. They are still solidly in 2nd place overall.
A bit concerned, but no panic. Chevy needs to find a 2C, because Namestnikov ain't it. If they don't find someone to play with Ehlers, he's going to walk.
if they can continue to play the way they have in the last 9 names (6-0-3) It'd be great if we get a video about how they have managed to turn things around
It’s interesting what the Jets are trying with Lowry at 2c. I don’t know if that’s the move for the playoffs though. Could trade for a 2c but how many times can you try the same thing, they’ve been down that road with no results before. All I know for certain is they can’t continue to play Logan Stanley, the guy is a liability out there.
They haven't gotten a 2C that moved the needle since Stastny in 2018. The addition of him slotting in between Ehlers and Laine instantly elevated them to being contenders. But, of course, in true Jets' fashion, they didn't make him a competitive offer to re-sign him and never replaced him. Lowry looks good filling in for the 2C, but he's not a permanent solution. They need a 2C that that drive offense at 5-on-5. And they are available, but the Jets need to swing big. And swinging big means not spending draft picks on rentals, but trading actual roster players & prospects for a guy with term.
As a not so big watcher of Winnipeg, im not concerned just pure numbers wise. They could replicate this last 10 game win% to the end of the season and cakewalk a playoff spot.
It's not about winning percentage or just making the playoffs. That is not good enough. They need fixes so that this team is better prepared to do damage, come playoff time. The team won their final 8 games last season, but weren't playing the right way. They allowed the fewest goals. They swept the Avs in the regular season, including beating them 7-0. Didn't matter come playoff time. The Avs adjusted and the Jets didn't.
This Jets fan is not too worried yet. I believe in Arniel. I think he can get the players to buy back in, screw their heads on right again. we shall find out in fairly short order. The Jets will have to ramp everything up in February until the end of the season.
Should have highlighted VGK's recent failures... Jets are 4-4-2 in their last 10. Vegas is 4-5-1. Jets are still top of the entire West, not just the Central. I'd be more worried for Vegas as Edmonton could pass them easily anytime in the Pacific only 1pt behind and looking real good.
@@TheHockeyGuy LOL I will still watch and enjoy your content. I agree they had some bad games, but I'm saying Vegas has been playing even more of a drop-off from their previous success than the Jets. Someone else in the comments actually wrote a similar thing, so just do another video on the failures of Vegas ;) Jets did have some statement games previously against the Canucks (I'm sorry THG) and the Avs to name a few. My main concern is how poorly they play with Comrie in net.
I don't really worry about the Devils... Still pretty good team. Watched all recent games (apart from PHI), and I don't think they play badly overall, it's just their passes/synergy is somehow off... Meier played one of the best 2-way game last month or so... yea, his scoring took a hit, but definitely valuable player on the roster... Palat and Mercer just cannot score... they've had some of the best chances... Also, Luke has to stop sniping that bars... he had so many of them recently... if 2-3 of them went into the net we wouldn't have this conversation... In terms of trade, I don't know... Palat was brought because of PO experience, so it would be weird to trade him out now... Mercer maybe for an experienced top line winger... Defence is pretty much set... They might consider Kovasevic as a rental maybe... Allen, don't know... he played well, definitely something to consider since Daws somehow .... Probably, just add some veteran depth and let rest to the offseason
As a devils fan i am concerned. Something has to be off in the lockeroom, i cant imagine blaming keefe because of how the season started. Im hoping they can win tonight and get the W. This team is one of the best in the league when everyone is clicking.
Some bad signings. Dougie signing was horrible the day it was made. Many of the contracts are at decent value but Fitzy has been handing out modified no trade clauses and no movement trade clauses. Now were stuck with Palat, Haula, Pesce, Dillon, Dougie. Bastian Tatar Dowling need to be moved.
The superstitios NJ fans are saying that the winter break vame at the wrong time, the coping NJ fans are saying that the officiating has been biased against us, the optimistic NJ fans are saying it's just a slump, and im just worried that we're gonna choke and miss the playoffs
Devils fan here. Before January I was always under the presumption that the devils weren’t as good as their record showed and the rangers weren’t as bad as their record showed. The real season starts in January. And right now the devils need to right the ship. Playing .500 hockey thru the remainder of the season won’t be enough. That will get them 91 points. This is almost panic territory.
Would you be OK taking Dougie plus assets for JT miller? Serious question. Say Devils add a B level prospect or midle six roster player plus a 2nd rounder. I thought Quinn was a RHS D but hes a lefty so Dougie realistically could fit.
Kov is gone if Fitzy is smart he wont resign him since he is having a break out here, Plus they have Nemec who needs to be in the NHL next year plus casey in a few. Devils cant score but they jsut fell off i have no idea why. Trading Nemec is not a option, keefe has work to do it starts with him. No thanks, makes no sense for JT to NJ.
Hockey fans can be fickle. Which, Bryan Danielson has said before to Wrestling fans. People want teams to be this unbeatable force for eternity. Avs and Vegas fans, simmer on down. Yall won few years back. Theres other teams that deserve to be a part of the playoffs/Stanley Cup discussion than just the same teams who made it recently these past few years.
Unfortunately, New Jersey got knocked into number 4 on the Eastern Conference standing. The only way to get back up is to win tomorrow's game against Boston! As for the Canucks, they have to win tonight to get back above the playoff line. They face the LAME, SUCKY Buffalo Sabres.
They are 4-4-2 in their last 10. They've lost to the likes of the Ducks, Red Wings, and Utah. And their scoring seems to go as the top line goes. Lowry looks good filling in as the 2C, but they still have a hard time burying their chances.
@@soulknife20 how about those Avs? Another loss the other day. They gonna even get out of a wildcard spot? Why such hatred for the Jets? Anytime anybody posts something about Winnipeg on this channel you are the first to trash them.
@73Ambassador Just pointing out the obvious. No Hellebuyck, no win. I'm not sure why you're mad. And yeah. The Avs are having a rough go. It happens. Still in the top wild card spot by a stretch and only 2 behind Dallas. I don't hate the Jets. Just Jets fans need to know the team is reliant on a goalie and that hasn't worked out in the playoffs yet for them.
@73Ambassador Also, you're being a giant baby about this. Jets are good. I just don't see them winning a cup unless Hellebuyck shows up in the playoffs. Last season, y'all got beat by a one line Avs team. Not great. Jets need to learn to compensate for bad Hellebuyck games and not having him in the net. And they haven't shown that they can this season.
@@soulknife20 and as soon as you lost that tweaker Nichushkin, you guys got your butts kicked by Dallas. What's your point? No Nichushkin and his league leading 5 goals in that 1st round and there would have been 2 more Jets wins which at least brought it to a 7 game series. Dallas showed how poorly your team played without him.

Yes
Let’s Go Ranger’s!
As a Rangers fan, I am so glad the Devils are getting a video now after we got 3 of them 😂
if they can continue to play the way they have in the last 9 names (6-0-3) It'd be great if we get a video about how they have managed to turn things around
Why couldn't you have waited to jinx the Devils into playing better until AFTER they play Philly. :-P.
Sorry I made the wrong video for you.
@@TheHockeyGuy LOL I will still watch and enjoy your content. I agree they had some bad games, but I'm saying Vegas has been playing even more of a drop-off from their previous success than the Jets. Someone else in the comments actually wrote a similar thing, so just do another video on the failures of Vegas ;)
Jets did have some statement games previously against the Canucks (I'm sorry THG) and the Avs to name a few. My main concern is how poorly they play with Comrie in net.
The Jets aren't playing that well. Beating the Canucks is pretty easy.
Vegas won the Cup in 2023. Winnipeg hasn't been out of round one since 2018 and this season is starting to mirror last season.
@@TheHockeyGuy The Jets went to round 2 after sweeping the Oilers!
Oh i hope pionk heads to another team
The jets could and would be so much better if they only GOT RID OF LOGAN STANLEY!!!!!!
I feel like the Jets need size. They're too small and get worn down by the grind of the season.
I think Dallas is gna win division....Wild will fall to wildcard spot and we will get Avs and Jets rematch in 1st round .....what u think...
Jets need a 2C bad
Some bad signings. Dougie signing was horrible the day it was made. Many of the contracts are at decent value but Fitzy has been handing out modified no trade clauses and no movement trade clauses. Now were stuck with Palat, Haula, Pesce, Dillon, Dougie. Bastian Tatar Dowling need to be moved.
Nobody wants Tatar, Bastian, Dowling dude
New Jersey is not "going to turn it around" the next four games scoring 1.78 goals per game.
Keefe needs to be fired
Would you be OK taking Dougie plus assets for JT miller? Serious question. Say Devils add a B level prospect or midle six roster player plus a 2nd rounder. I thought Quinn was a RHS D but hes a lefty so Dougie realistically could fit.
Jets don't struggle against the Avs. Wish they would. Be a big help.
April 2024 begs to differ
@@petergaudet4721Playoffs round 1 disagrees
I’m calling Panic on Keefe. He is very close to getting fired.
No he isn’t lol
WE ARE FRAUDS :C
Keefe has done nothing to improve NJ. If NJ did not have outstanding goaltending, they would be in the dumps.
Rangers on the come up
From Detroit, swap those struggles with them.
Wouldn't say 2 loses for the jets is struggling............
Maybe if it was 4 in a row
They are 4-4-2 in their last 10. They've lost to the likes of the Ducks, Red Wings, and Utah. And their scoring seems to go as the top line goes. Lowry looks good filling in as the 2C, but they still have a hard time burying their chances.
The Jets are like at the top of the league and you think they’re struggling, can’t win em all you know!
Are you running out of topics here?
Lol
Jets can't win without Hellebuyck. If Hellebuyck is having a rough game, Jets can't win. If he isn't in net, they can't win.
HAHHAHAHA JETS October champs 🤣🤣🤣
of course NJ has to tailspin even harder. 😡😡
