  • If you want to pass the GED math test, you need to know what to study. In this first of a four video series about what to study to pass the GED math exam, I give an overview of the seven core skills in the operations with rational numbers category that you'll need to score 145 and earn your GED credential. These are foundational math skills that will support your success throughout the GED math test. Make sure to subscribe so you don't miss the next three videos in the series! I'll be covering the math skills in measurement and geometry, expressions and equations, and graphs and functions that you'll need to pass the GED math exams.

      @S.K I talk a little bit about that in this video if you want a more detailed answer: ua-cam.com/video/5xIA5DrPmuA/v-deo.html. In short, I would recommend that you call and speak to someone in the admissions department at the colleges you hope to attend and ask them if they will accept the GED and what scores they prefer so that you can make a plan. Every school is different so it's helpful to check with the ones you're interested in.

      i don't get it, if the GED math exam is not above grade 9 in math level, and if she says it's almost not impossible to not pass, then why do so many people find the ged test hard? and majority fail the test 3-4 times, this proves that the ged math exam is hard, otherwise people would've found it easy and passed on the first try.

    • @michellerevisited
      @michellerevisited  4 роки тому +2

      @@Forever-gd7vs Hi there, I never said it wasn't a challenging exam that some people will need a lot of practice and support to pass. The topics that are needed to pass the exam are topics that are taught, usually, during middle and early high school - this is not according to me, this is according to the Common Core math standards which are used in many states across the country. The reality is that many people do not receive adequate math instruction in school. Difficulty with academics is a contributing factor for many students who leave school without a diploma, which would also contribute to difficulty passing the GED exam. The exams are not meant to be easy - they are meant to indicate that you have a certain level of skill. It isn't impossible to pass - I have worked with many students who have gone on to pass the GED math exam.

      @@michellerevisited i firmly believe the biggest reason that people have a hard time is because they are allowed to skate by. The no child left behind has encouraged teachers to let students pass even though they are not academically ready to do so. It isn't right and it hurts only the children. Special education is a joke. I only had add but they didn't teach me anything past fractions. Didn't hurt the school, didn't hurt the teacher, only hurt me in the long run. Like all of these kind of standardized tests, different questions are weighted differently. In the videos in this series I go through the types of questions you need to get correct to pass - unofficial word is that it's only about 40% of the test. This is because there are questions that are much harder so that there can be different levels of passing. If you were particularly lucky it's not totally out of the realm of possibility to get 30% or so correct which probably put you in that realm of score. With a little work I'm sure you could pass!

      That depends on where you hope to attend. Some four year universities may not accept you with that score. You might choose to attend a community college where you could take remedial classes or look for adult education programs in your community to brush up on skills before attending college. If you are really unsure with your math skills, go to Khan Academy and select the 6th grade math course. Do the challenge test to see how much you know. If that level seems easy, move up to 7. If it seems hard, start with that course. You don’t need much more than the 8th grade skills to pass the GED.

    • @michellerevisited
      @michellerevisited  4 роки тому +4

      College admissions is usually "holistic" - meaning that they consider a lot of different factors when deciding who they will admit. Also, every college is different! That's why I recommend that you call the admissions department where you are hoping to attend and ask them what scores they would like to see. Usually if you're not scoring in the 165 range, you are not ready to do college level math. BUT that doesn't mean you can't go to college - it might mean that they will require you to take some remedial classes when you get there, depending on what your major and goals are.

    • @Forever-gd7vs
      @Forever-gd7vs 4 роки тому +1

      @@michellerevisited but honestly it is unfair, for exam the math required for the ged may be the math that some college majors people want to take don't have, let's say someone's college major only had calculus math, and the ged math doesn't involve in any calculus, so in that case they would have no right to put a student down and put them in remedial classes or not accept them for there scores. like the major i want to take only offers calculus level 1, and i have reviewed on college level calculus 1 on khan academy and i already know how it works and i find it reasonable enough, so that means it should be acceptable for most students to be going into college with low ged scores, because you can't rely on not being ready for college level math when for example a major a student wants to take doesn't involve any of the GED math and it only involves in a math that the student already finds reasonable to work with.

    • @michellerevisited
      @michellerevisited  4 роки тому

      @@Forever-gd7vs The skills on the GED are foundational for more advanced classes like calculus. In order to do the computation required in a calculus class, it's important to have the algebra and arithmetic skills that are evaluated on the GED test. I wouldn't assume that colleges won't accept you or that you will have to take remedial classes. I would call the admissions departments and ask questions about what they require. Every college has different standards for admissions. Colleges are selective institutions that don't accept every person who applies - if you want to attend a certain college, you need to meet the admission criteria. If their criteria is that you reach a certain score on the GED (or SAT, for that matter), you can prepare to improve your scores or you can choose to pursue another school.
