Woo I’m a Tank Fact.
🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Great to see You here Salty.
You forgot a comma there, Salty!
Thanks so much for showing Micheal some luuurve and recognizing his immense talent, Tank! He so deserves it. Keep it up!
Arjen!!! Thank you for stopping by, man! And yes, Michael is insane and more people need to be aware of his music. 🤘
Yay, Arjen! I'll never thank you enough for bringing Toehider to my attention! Hugs!
ua-cam.com/video/14g_rr5yn7I/v-deo.html
Thank YOU Arjen for making us aware of him!
God bless You Mr. Arjen Anthony Lucassen. You are a musical genius. I hope someday You will make a cooproduction with Tuomas Holopainen (Nightwish).
Michael Mills is criminally underrated, good that hes getting more exposure
Oh, man, it's so good to hear someone discovering this lunatic genius. Maybe check out You and I live from Pony Studios next? That's with a whole band, so a bit more gear on show.
Random anecdote: when I got married last year, my best man sent Mike Mills a message because I was a Toehider fan, and we got back a video of him reminiscing about all the good times we'd had together, 100% of which he was making up as he spoke. It was wonderful.
Hahahahahaha. That's amazing.
Anybody else really want to see that video? 😅
Mike is from a little farmimg town in the Great Southern area of Western Australia. I was lucky enough to play drums for his first band. He then worked for me as the guitar teacher at my music instrument store
Damien Wilson, another excellent singer from the Ayreon world, is not very well known.
Try The druids turned to stone, Ayreon Universe Live. Or try Twisted Coil, The electric castle live and other tales.
Or Intergalactic Space crusader, Ayreon Universe live.
I agree !
Or the rubicon from threshold
Definitely Damian next - Twisted Coil live by Damian was fantastic as was Druids Turn to Stone - off Ayreon Universe
Or his work with Maiden United.
Oh definitely. It's insane to think he was considered for Iron Maiden when Bruce left, they chose Blaze at the time because he lived more nearby. Chances are Bruce wouldn't be back if they chose Damian at the time. He is fantastic. Highly recommend Twisted Coil and Druids turn to stone. I think Intergalactic Space Crusaders will be right up Tanks alley.
Wow..... why is that pure “ GENIUS” is ignored???? This dude is amazing .... this is my first time hearing!. Will check him out more. Would love to see him n Townsend jam together 🤯. Thanks for that treat Tank very nice.
Thanks dude! Glad you enjoyed it!
A collaboration between Mike, Devin and Tuomas would be astonishing.
Even though I watching this video, my brain still assumed Mikael from Opeth when I read this. Either way, I agree.
Stop. I can only get so hard.
Mike is amazing. He doesn't need much to make him 'Superior'. I wish he was more well known, he deserves to be.
Thanks for covering Toehider, Ayreon is a great gateway to amazing bands and musicians. Another amazing singer I discovered from Ayreon is Damian Wilson. Check out Ayreon Universe - And The Druids Turned To Stone. He does a bunch on Star One as well.
And with Threshold, Headspace and Maiden United.
And the Druids turned to Stone is amazing.
Damian's singing is pure beauty
Damian vocals really shine also on Rick Wakeman's album Out There... check it out, brilliant stuff!
Damian on Star One is my all time favorite
How is no one talking about the new Ayreon CD, where Mike has one (only one :( ) fantastic song. Its called 'Dumb piece of rock" It really made me smile when i heard it, i love this man so much.
When Arjen asked him for the roll of statue Mike replied... Arjen, I would play a banana if you asked me...
This is .....DANCABLE!!!!!
As someone who took lots of voice training as a wee ankle biter, I can't believe that the choir masters of the world haven't tracked and caged him. He would be a TERRIFIC asset to a choir master.
If you want danceable Toehider ala 80s synth beats, try "wellgivit". I can't stop listening to that track. Mike clearly wears his musical influences on his sleeves.
Mike is an incredibly talented musician and vocalist. No wonder Arjen uses him so much for his amazing creations. Love it. Also love Arjen and his wonderful music. Peace
That was a fun. Mike Mills wow blown away, Musician and singer . At the beginning I got the Ian Gillian feel and as it progressed I was thinking of Devin Townsend. A musician’s musician. Thank you for finding Toehider, after seeing him perform with Ayreon I was very interested in seeing his Toehider Project. Thanks it was awesome
Dude I have no idea why he isn’t on everyone’s radar, but I have been a fan since pretty much the beginning and it gives me such joy whenever anyone discovers him.
You really can’t go wrong with anything, but from this same live series “He’s there and he does that” is outstanding, and studio-wise “Under the Future We Bury the Past” is a whole range show off
Ever since you said Toehider was a 1man project, I couldn't wait for this video! This man is phenomenal
Mike is an amazing and extremely talented music artist who deserves more attention and exposure. I'm so glad you decided to check out some Toehider.
This video was taken from a live album release stream Mike did a few weeks ago. I watched it (listened rather) while drinking some beer outside and slapping some steaks on the grill. Good stuff.
Hell yeah!
He did TWO the same day, so he could get the Western Hemisphere people while they were awake. The chat started going off the rails about muffins for some reason, and the guy doing the drawings started doing muffin drawings briefly. Weird listening party, that one. Great music though.
@@crabuki1273 Dangerbeard, if you ever read this, just be aware that we're all blaming you for that crazy muffin time XD It was great fun by the way! Hugs!
Mike Mills... what a treat!!! Thanx!
Toehider needs more exposure for sure. Thanks for the reaction!
Really like those facts & gear talk Tank. They are what lifts this channel above hundreds of other reaction channels. Anybody can listen to music and give their opinion. Literally nobody else talks about gear.
Thanks a ton! Glad I could add some value to the reactions. 🤘
Thanks! I love Mike Mills, try Toehider “This conversation is over” (there is a clip and a live version of this song). Also creative music is “Concerning Lix and Fairs”. Not only is it a nice fairy tale but also animatedly drawn while the story unfolds. Very unique concept!
Michael Mills is incredible. Love Toehider so much and am so happy you reacted to this song. It's so damn good. Would love to see you react to more of his stuff soon. I recommend "He's There...And Then He Does THAT! " or "How Do Ghosts Work"
How do ghosts work is one of my favorites!
I second this one!
I've been meaning to check out Mike Mills, too, so this was a first for me as well. He has an amazing vocal range!! I'll definitely be checking out more!
Holy shit, the tone on that solo. It's awesome that he can do all the technical pinch harmonics and fast runs, but like 90% of the solo was just simple, perfectly chosen patterns to align with the backing track. This song was awesome.
Edit: Also just realised it's Strapping Young Lad playing underneath your outro. Excellent work, sir.
This guy is truly amazing. Yikes, so glad you did this reaction. I’ve been enjoying watching Mike on his channel.
React to "He's There and then he does that" by Toehider!! Please!!!
I concur
👍Yay. Go Oz talent. 🇭🇲⭐ And the touch of Oz 😂 sense of humour too. I really loved this.
Hello! I’m glad to see you appreciate the amazing Mike Mills! I’ve been a huge fan of his ever since discovering him through Ayreon. I know you would enjoy the entire “Theory of Everything” album. Marco from Nightwish is also on it. By the way, Mike is very approachable to fans. I have a hand drawing that he made for me on New Years Eve a few years ago when I asked for a selfie.
That’s awesome!
The first song of his I listened to was How Much For That Dragon Tooth and I can't stop listening to it.
Ayreon - Day 16: Loser (LIVE) is one of the best performances of Mike Mills. :D It is super funny too.
I know nothing about guitars, but the first thought I had when I saw this was, "there are birds in the inlay! That's the same guitar brand as the one from Uranus!" Always learning, Tank. Thanks so much!
Volbeat - Still Counting (Official Live from Wacken Open Air 2017)
How Do Ghosts Work? - live or just go to Toehiders youtube and pick anything mate its all excellent.
I laughed so hard at the desktop sound!! Hahahahaha so cool you made a TankFact of it :'D and thank you for giving Toehider the credits it deserves
Checking him out for my first time too here hahaha.
Now that i saw this i understand his connection with Ayreon.
I hadn't heard that before. Amazing song!
Thank you!
I could listen to this all day. Lots of fun and a multi-talented guy. His vocals are just crazy! Looking forward to more from this guy :D
Great talent. He has an enormous vocal range. I learn almost every video something new in your video’s. I did not know about the lefty’s guitar thingy.
I owe you a debt of deep gratitude. On July 8th last year, you changed my life with something you said in this video.
You made a remark about how Devin Townsend was another musical genius who is underappreciated, so I thought I would go look him up. The first thing I saw was a Wolf Hunterz reaction to Devy's EMG "Kingdom" performance. 5 seconds in, I had goosebumps. When he sang that first epic note, my jaw dropped open (as everyone's does) & I was enraptured. By the time the video was over, I knew music would never again be the same for me again.
I am now 9 months into what has become my biggest musical obsession ever & I am STILL discovering things beyond things (see what I did there?) about this charming mastermind mad genius with the impossible voice. Hardly a day goes by where I do not listen to something of his.
You could have given me a million dollars and that would not have had the impact on my life that your one relevant offhand comment did. It's amazing to think about the impact our words and influence have on others and we never even know, so I wanted to make sure you knew.
Bless you and yours now and always, sir. I will always remember you & what you did for me. ))
1. Put him and Devin Townsend in a studio.
2. Light blue touchpaper, and run for cover!
I'm old and the 80s just came roaring back when i heard this ....loved it tho.
How Do Ghosts Work? from Michael (Toehider) is also fantastic. He recently uploaded a video for it in the same style as this one. Listening to his stuff is just fun though, almost annoying because he makes it all look so effortlessly...
And, of course, I gonna keep posting about Tarot, Marco Hietala's original band. Warhead, Pyre of Gods or Tides.
Almost did that one. Total toss up between this or "How Do Ghosts Work", but I felt like It'd be a win either way.
I really like how do ghosts work
@@TankTheTech inside joke but "5 always wins"
Everything is incredible in this video
Mike has such a sweet tone with that PRS - great reaction Tank.
Very cool to see him left-handed. I'm predominantly right handed but when I picked up the guitar it just felt more natural to me to hold it left-handedly. I remember that's how I played air guitar too. I never restrung mine, though. Had high E up top and low E on the bottom. Not that I'm anywhere near as good as these guys, but it's cool to have that in common.
Mike Mills is a Monster. A fucking beast. Bravo, tank, for showing me this and introducing me to Toehider
I agree with You Tank. Michael Mills and Heavy Devy are very underrated. Both of them put a spell on me. I have that same reaction like You. That reaction was a pure gold. Thank You for that song.
Great video, Mills is just an absurd talent. I saw Toehider play a stack of times when they were really active as a live band, the live lineup he had from 2011-2016 were just monstrous, just a wall of sound and so much fun live. Not only is he an amazing player, but he always made sure his live band had people who were phenomenal too.
Toehider has absolutely consumed me recently, Mike is amazing, Salty is fantastic too, his art is brilliant. I'd recommend Go Full Bore, the "official video playthrough" where you get lyrics alongside Mike's awesome playing. That is an intense speed metal/power metal type song with a Bathory snack and a brief trip to Green Hills. It's beautiful and funny and exceptional.
Extra points for the Dev appreciation, completely agree that he deserves way more fame and fortune than he has BUT he's so humble and insecure that I think it would break him.
x2 bonus for chucking Detox on at the end, and now I've got to go listen to City....this is not a complaint.
Thanks for the kind words Phil!
@@TheSalt666 no worries, you've quickly become one of my favourite artists :)
Check out Ostura - Deathless featuring Mike Mills! they are a prog Band as well.. Amazing album.. but amazing Mike as well!
What a treat! This was my first time hearing his stuff outside of Ayreon as well and man. He was just as amazing as I imagined! I would love chase to do the same vid and see his take on it!
If you havn't allready, you should check out Leo Moracchioli, Frog Leap Studios. He does metalcovers of pop songs, mostly as a one man band. Also has the band: Frog Leap Band and they play one of the smaller stages at Wacken 2019..
At Jonathan Young , Caleb Hyles and Cole Roland and... to that list. There's sooooo many fricking cool musicians up on here, too 🥰
Only Toehider.
That amount of talent in one person just isn’t fair
If you like the tongue-in-cheek lyrics, you should check out the band Freak Kitchen. "Speak When Spoken To" is a great song for that, or "Taste My Fist". The guitarist, Mathias IA Eklundh, does crazy things with his guitar. I've seen him live play with a chopstick and a vibrator.
Wow - what range and a sweet PRS Se Santana strung lefty - good eye Tank! I was thinking it was a double cut standard but yeah it has the Carlos mojo - ( I am playing a Tremonti SE in my profile pic). When he hit the high range - I could feel Gibb brother vibes in that falsetto. Very cool - been meaning to check him out since I heard your Areyon reaction.
Oh man! This was excellent.. and more Toehider? Sounds even better. I'd say that all the individual clips like this one which are taken from his album release stream are worth checking out. Of course all the few official music videos are also first-class
Mike is an amazing talent - just plodding through the Ayreon rabbit hole and yours / Chase / Elizabeth's reactions to related music - what an awesome find.
I did spend around 2 minutes looking to see what email I'd just gotten from my work account at 13:39 minutes in. Had me fully sold :)
Thanks again for the videos - keep up the great content - it get's me through the workday!
This was recorded about 3 in the morning about at the end of a 6 hour live stream album launch, so he was a bit tired here. So this isnt Mike at his very best. Still great thou
?!? After. Six. Hours..
OK now I'm impressed.
"If you disliked it... get your ears checked asap"
I like it
4 hours later .... still 0 dislikes :D
Whatever Makes You Feel Superior
I’m glad to see you do Toehider, and I hope you do a few more. My favorite is How do Ghosts Work, from this same live stream. It was his version of a release party for his new album since we can’t get together in person. He had his Patreons vote on the tracks to include from over 40 songs iirc.
One other recommendation for you, which should be particularly fun from the roadie/production perspective: Grace by the Devin Townsend Project’s Live at the Retinal Circus. It features choir, contortionists, and a theatrical setup. It also has Anneke Van Giersbergen (one of those who inspired Floor to get into metal) and an intro from Steve Vai. I think you’d have a lot of fun with that one. Here’s a link: ua-cam.com/video/E1Gwtep2oXw/v-deo.html
Edit: I left this halfway through, then you go and pop Devin up. If you’ve seen that one, maybe try Detox from the same show. Or Try War.
What a talented fellow
Yeah that was awesome. And I love me some Heavy Devy.
His style and sound reminds me a bit of Matt Bellamy with Muse in their earlier days. Especially during the quiet part where he is tuning his guitar haha
So strange that i got into toehider with in the pst few days heard him same as you from ayreon and i really love millions of musketeers just a fun fast paced track to jam too
Toehider's new album is SO GOOD! I recommend you listen to either Rancorous Heart or He's there... And then he does THAT. Two of my favorite songs on the album, but all the songs on it are just so good, man.
I really enjoyed this, which makes another new artist added to my playlist thanks to you tank. I really enjoyed your reaction to the song and the tanks facts were very interesting making me want to research more into the artist with each fact you give us. It was really cool when you talked about he was playing a right handed guitar, left handed. I would not have picked up on that just listening to this myself. Thanks Tank, you and Chase got the last day of my vacation off to great start as I catch up on reactions.
"How do ghosts work" next
Toehider makes me smile more than any other artist. My current favorite is Rishloo, but they do not have the same joyous effect on me. Highly recommend listening to a Rishloo song. Love that you have WOTE on your wall amidst all the metal. Stay awesome!
I learned a few things from this video, about musicianship as well as Toehider (didn't know the thing about Toehooder). I promise that you're going to like anything else you listen to from Toehider. Troldhaugen, also from Australia, is the reason I discovered Toehider. I recommend giving them a listen if you haven't before.
Tank if you missed Toehider's latest and second stream on 7th of November you have got so much to catch up.. excellent playing and singing, gear, jokes etc. This time sequel went for the victory
Yes, thank you for doing a Toehider song! Mills is amazeballs.
I love both Ayreon and Toehider. I think it's well worth listening to his work with both bands- I'd recommend "But Mostly Metal" by TH and "The Theory of Everything" by Ayreon.
Gives off similar vibes to Mike Keneally in that he can probably do vocally and play anything you ask of him whilst making it look easy at the same time.
Hi Tank, I love your music reactions more than all others because of all the details and research you put in there! If you like monster vocalists like Mike Mills try to react to something from Michele Luppi (right now he plays keyboards for Whitesnake): he has a live DVD from the old days in Vision Divine called "stage of consciousness" where he really shines and set a new level for the singing bar, or also more recent stuff like some live videos with Secret Sphere.
From Vision Divine I suggest "Colours of my World", "Identities" or "La vita fugge".
Keep the great work on, you rock!
Tank he has another livestream on November 7 if you got a couple of hours and want to hear more Toehider! His last one that this is taken from was pretty awesome :D
I’m there!
React to Volbeat... “Warriors Call” “Sad Mans Tongue” “Still Counting”
Hey this was a great react video. I love how much extra info you put into it without having way too many pauses. I recently discovered Toehider and I'm an instant fan.
Mike, the one man bohemian rhapsody..
By the way, my favorite Ayreon album is The Human Equation. It consists of 3 Human Characters ("Me", "Best Friend", "Wife") and then a ton of Emotions (each emotion a different singer). The Theater Equation was a live stage production of the album (because it's such a cohesive album!) and consists of most of the original album singers/players on the stage (sadly Michael Akerfeldt of Opeth couldnt be in it, and he brought a huge presence to the album). I recommend checking out that album and /or The live Theater Equation
Michael Mills is both a master class musician & vocalist. For more great Toehider: Toehider - "Concerning Lix & Fairs" Lyric Video ua-cam.com/video/6LRV8iIgWxI/v-deo.html
P.S. Here's another talented guy in his home studio: Toto - Africa (metal cover by Leo Moracchioli feat. Rabea & Hannah) ua-cam.com/video/MH9FyLsfDzw/v-deo.html with only 46M views & 547K likes.
Please Tank, cover the Giants who walked with Man by Toerider from Pony Studios.
This is so damn great, he reminds me a bit of Rikard Sjöblom from Beardfish, but undoubtably an even better singer. His belted highs sound a bit like LaBrie. Hearing his stuff on The Source instantly made me a fan. Btw, there are leftly guitarists who play right handed guitars, flip them, but don't restring at all. They've just learned to play the tuning intervals in reverse. Dan Swanö for example.
Yay! The world needs more Toehider! Thank you for the reaction video, you did a pretty great job! If you're into Facebook, feel free to check out and join us at the official Toehider fan group: Toehider Fans United. We're still a small community, but we're very passionate and friendly! Big hugs everyone!
Hell yeah. that was cool although i dropped everything cos i thought my discord was still going till i read the Tankfact
🌟 yay!
Please react to How do ghosts work? Such a GREAT song! Do the lyrics video, he writes intellectual songs, so beautiful!
Check out his song "this conversation is over", it's awesome :)
Check his music video: Toehider - This Conversation is Over [Official Video]
It's so good. :)
Pretty sure Mike is using a headrush pedalboard. I think I heard somewhere that he has an endorsement
You mentioned the man himself Devin Townsend. You should check out his latest live video of Why? It's hilarious.
Love your reactions...plus you’re a hockey guy ...my son is a hockey player so I’ve shown him your stuff. He’s all in 🤘
That’s awesome! Thanks a ton!
I'd like to recommend a few Toehider songs for you: How Do Ghosts Work, Meet the Sloth, This Conversation is Over, and Under the Future We Bury the Past. And I'd recommend the Ayreon album the Theory of Everything, which features Mike in a major part throughout.
Another band that is original and grooves is Fishbone. Their song "Servitude" Live in Bordeaux, highlights their live energy and creativity with a twist on metal. They are also a band that should have been bigger and has struggled.
Hi there from The Netherlands :) Just found your channel through your videos reacting to nightwish and Wintersun. I know it might be inappropriate for this video, but I would highly recommend you reacting to older Wintersun songs, like Winter Madness or Starchild. You will love them. Also, if you do Winter Madness, try to find a good live version. The solo is nothing short of insane. Keep up the amazing job on this channel man!
Dan Swano plays on left handed guitar like Mike
This dude is so talented. Honestly blew my mind. Jealous of his high notes hahaha
I'd love to see you react to some Scardust! Their singer, Noa, was also featured in the latest Ayreon album! And they just released a new song like yesterday, it's called Stranger and definitely worth a listen :)
This song is awesome! Kind of reminds me a little of Freak Kitchen and the frontman Mattias "Ia" Eklundh. If you got the time check it out :)
This sounds like if Dave Matthews reeeeeeeeeally got into Scorpions and Toto... I love it. Also, you should check out "Cold Sweat" by Church of the Cosmic Skull.
Fun fact: Kris Roe from The Ataris also plays the guitar left-handed with it strung right-handed... But he's also right-handed
That is a perfect description. His vocal range and control is ridiculous. I’m so glad I stumbled into all these wonderful artists I’m discovering thanks to all the reactions on UA-cam. Has made me actually enjoy music again 🤘
