    sorry but testing an engine oil at 1000C does not make any sense. an engine never reaches such temperature. not even close. in order to make sense you can test a sample at 250C for 2 hours. i can assure you that i have used helix ultra for 18 years on a nissan sunny 1.4 and my mechanic opened the engine and told me that its like new from the inside.

    • @PiotrTester
      @PiotrTester  8 років тому +2

      No, tested oil temperature is over 100 ° C. This temperature has burner is over 1000 ° C. In a normal car oil temperature does not exceed 140-150 ° C. Such temperatures are still extreme cases, achieved in motorsport.

      I'm a big fan of Shell Helix too, always use it. But oil brand is pretty irrelevant if it is changed when due for the internals to look new

      A turbo can.

    • @teravolt6113
      @teravolt6113 6 років тому +1

      CSLFiero This happens when you immediately turn the engine off without letting the turbo cool down. When the pump is running oil flows so fast through the turbo that it won't reach such temperatures, otherwise the turbo's journal bearings would fail immediately.

  • @amuzh

    From this video, you can learn that black oil doesn't mean it's dirty and needed to be changed because once you run your car and it reaches 100 degree Celcius it's gonna turn black

    tak na przyszłość to zrób jakiś stelaż gdzie umieścisz próbówkę palnik i miernik temperatury na stałe i ustalisz jakiś czas np 30/60 sec i ilość oleju wlaną do próbówki. Wtedy będzie to miało jakiś sens

    to żaden test. Co on dowodzi? Spaliłeś olej, zrobił się czarny bo musiał się taki zrobić. Niczego nie dowiodłeś. Kup sobie bańkę oleju i wrzuć ją do ogniska. Będziesz miał więcej zabawy.

    I should have watched your video first. I just bought the Helix Ultra because it had a huge discount. Now I know why. One question - how did you determine when you stop burning the oil? And is it 1000C or 100C? Because no engine oil will survive 1000C.

      It can be as pure as you want, but i suppose that over a certain temperature everything organic degrades. The test basically shows what would happen inside your turbo core if you drive so hard that your turbo became red hot and then you immediately turn the engine off.

      It will show you how this oil lokks after a while in your engine. If it's black it will not protect your engine right. This oil is just gone after a fiew months.

    • @CSLFiero
      @CSLFiero 6 років тому

      This oil is not designed for long life, it's design it's for high temperature exposure over short life. Is designed to give you the best protection under hard use for less than 3000km before discard. After cooking, he rolls it in the breaker, it still clings, even though its lost 50% volume.

    • @teravolt6113
      @teravolt6113 6 років тому +2

      Pawel Ludew Wrong. With diesel engines oil soon becomes black and oil color won't mean much by itself. And remember that the faster the oil acquires the "dirty" look, the better the oil is able to clean the engine up and keep it clean due to a correct amount of dispersant and detergent. Always be wary of oil that stays clean for a very long time in any engine.

      I have just updated the description of the film, I'm sorry that so late ...
      Shell Helix Ultra 5W40 unknown to me TBN.
      The point scale: 1 - bad, 10 - well
      Cleanliness oil (sludge): 2/10
      Changing the color: 3/10
      The cost of oil: 23.50 PLN / 1L
      What shows the test?
      The test shows how clean is really a oil. Does it have traces of sludge and oil resistance (additives) to change the color.
      Why are some oils are darker than others?
      Because of the additives. Each manufacturer in its composition has other additives that react differently to heat

    what is the sence of this testing??? you dont even know at what temp that oil is, put an infrared thermometer on it and you will see that oil is going up to 300/400 degrees, this is all just stupid, and peoples even like this crap.. lmao! (and no, oil doesnt reach 150 degrees in an engine like you said)

    • @PiotrTester
      @PiotrTester  7 років тому +2

      I tried to show, how really clean is engine oil...
      ua-cam.com/video/1YDCER_gtac/v-deo.html
      The video shows what temperatures I reach in my tests. As you can see the motor oil temperature oscillates between 102-107°C. I checked the temperatures with different amounts of motor oil and the max temperature that I was able to reach was about 130°C. But what kind of temperature does the oil in our car have? This depends on the way we drive our car, but the usual temp. is between 90°C and 105°C. If we overload our engine (with sport drive style, driving with high rpm), we can reach the oil temp of about 150°C. But it's not a high temperature yet, as the temperature in the upper part of the piston can reach over 200°C! So, what happens to the oil in my test is not a big deal compared to what it has to endure in a real motor.
      FAQ:
      Why do you make these tests?
      1.To show that each and every motor oil is different and the information about the particular oil does not always match the information provided by the manufacturer on the data sheet.
      2.What do you aim to prove with my tests?
      To show which motor oil is the cleanest. The cleaner the oil, the better.
      3. Why do you heat the oils to temps. of over 100°C? (110°C usually)
      Because it is the optimal temperature in which the motor oils work. What happens in the test tube is similar to what happens with the motor oil in our motors.
      4. Why did you upload this video test?
      Because some people, as you can see, accuse me of heating the oil in my test tubes to temperatures over 300°C (some even write that it's over 500°C). I hope that this video will resolve any doubts.
      Thank you for your attention

  • @Lamerbuca
    @Lamerbuca 3 роки тому

    What is the point of this test? Any conclusions? This doesn't say anything about the oil and its quallity. You can hardly expose any motor oil to such high temperatures in a regular engine. Most of these oils cant withstand temperatures above 200 °C. You are heating it to nearly 400. Any oil would turn black.
