Hello, I wanted to thank you for your videos. A friend bought a ps4 from someone and it had the hdmi socket messed up. He took it to a repair place, and they told him it was fixed. He took it home and plugged it in, but it didn't work. He got mad, and gave it to me. I used your videos and took it apart to find that the repair place had removed the old socket, and shoved the new one down and didn't bother to solder it in. I found the new socket messed up as well, and got a new one. using your videos, I was able to solder it in, and it works perfectly. So, for about 60 dollars, I now have a working good ps4. Thank you again, you're quite good.
You mention (here or in another video) that the HDMI Pins are actually tiny. After watching several of your PS4 repair I started to ignore the fact. So I went for a broken PS4 and a replacement HDMI Port. Man these Pins are really tiny. ;) Of course I had a solder bridge between PINs 17 to 19. It took me >30 Minutes to get rid of this. In the end it came out to work. Brilliant. Thanks for your awesome videos!
I wish I would have watched this video in full before trying the heat gun method I saw in another video but I haven't played my PS4 in almost a year but now I'm still unable to play it. Thanks for this video.
This is the best, most authentic PS4 HDMI fix of them all. There is another video claiming to be the "right way" but He doesn't show the removal,Probably because he messed it up. Or how to install it.All he shows is him soldering the contacts and not doing a very good job at that!He seems to be struggling with it!He also puts everybody else down calling them ripoffs, criminals, fakes and predators..LOL...A real wackjob! On the other hand,Your video shows the procedure from start to finish.Very professional! Thanks for the great vid Andrew.
I found out it was my terrible flux that had also gone outdated - that's why it felt impossible to heat the HDMI pads up on the board... I've gone and bought some of the very same flux that you used in this video and multicore solder on my second PS4, and it worked great! A successful fix. Didn't even need to replace the HDMI encoder chip
Hi Andrew; Looks like you did a great job I live in Australia had the same issue and saw your vid scared the living scrp out of me to try and do that but lucky for me I found a company called Global Consoles they fixed it replaced the HDMI port for only $65 and gave me warranty 12 months as well
For anyone who has broken hdmi, your ps4 is not trash. If you can't afford to fix it like me, you can use remote play to use it. Bought a Playstation tv for $20. Log in on PSTV with account from ps4, start up remote play. Turn on ps4 and then connect via remote play to ps4 from vita. This works fine for me for slower paced games like WWE 2k16. Just something to keep in mind. Also turn on direct connection and place vita tv as close as possible to ps4 for less lag or artifacts while playing. Great video, I know I won't be able to do the job. Too much can go wrong.
Greetings and many thanks from Las Vegas. I was able to fix my AV receiver hdmi output port following your method. Cheers mate look me up next time you are in Las Vegas I will buy you a nice pint.
I find that on placing the port, heating the board from the bottom works better for me, as to not warp the plastic housing holding the pins in alignment. By the time the direct heat melts the thick solder for the 4 posts, you can visually see all the pin pads melt, I find it's easier to get the placement juuuuuuust perfect with the increased visibility. I also feel it gives you a better ability to maneuver the port be it not seated to your liking. Just my thoughts.
Well mate, I had a go, and.... yeah. Damn. screwed up twice. it is harder than it looks, holy shit. You make it look so easy. the first ps4, the solder wouldn't heat up the pads when I put flux on them and put 63/47 lead solder on them, and the second one ended up just barely heating up, but I held a pair of tweezers on the HDMI port and ripped a few pads. I'm definitely going to give this another shot soon, but I'm a little concerned that my station isn't getting hot enough, but isn't 480c good enough? Thanks for your encouragement, mate! You're really skilled at this, its insane...
You should be using solder braid to clear the housing holes out before trying to insert the socket or it will act as a heatsink and keep cooling the solder.
Great video, but it looks easier than what it is. How many watts soldering iron should I use? I tried 25 Watts and it barely melts the joints. Also when I removed the motherboard I ripped the little plug that connects the fan to the motherboard. Is this fixable by soldering the grey, black, brown wires directly onto the board? Thank you.
+Andrew Paul ah right okay thanks, will any damage be caused if two points were touching and the console has started up? I think it might be easier just to get someone else to repair it
+JoshTheUkGamer it's possible to blow the HDMI Encoder IC in certain circumstances but more often than not removing the short is enough to get it back up.
+Aashish Shrestha Hi, Yes you'll not manage it with an iron. You'll need to use hot air, concentrate it on the tip of the wick and 'dip' it through the holes with plenty of flux. I tend to find a drop of leaded solder helps too. It should then suck right out leaving the holes nice and clear.
can you post something on how to repair/replace the power button on a ps4 console, I have a working gold band on it but the button doesn't touch because I broke it accidentally.
+ThexXxXxOLOxXxXx Or he's got barely enough money to feed himself but wants to throw his money at Sony because PlayStation is love, PlayStation is life.
I was Installing led on the analog but now the controller only works wired in the battery is good I check it on another controller do know what might be the problem why it's not catching power from the battery
It's a pain but first of all I'd recommend removing the LEDs and seeing if the problem is still present. If so then you can rule that out. Is there anything obvious like missing components which might have been knocked off / shorts etc which might explain the problem? Always pays to check the simple things first.
Thanx For the Video i need to ask on what temperature you put your Rework Station and air flow, i did not catch it, you were talking too fast i use the Aoyue 968A and it is really good, but it may need some calibration first to get the right temp. I usually do drag soldering to put back the HDMI Port, i will see if your method works better for me, i also use the Pump to remove the solder excess from the four GND points, do not know if it is good idea since the area is hot and could knock some cap/res. i think i'll but the soldering iron you use, it looks great
Hi mate, It was 485 degrees C @ 65l/min airflow - gets things off nice and quickly but most importantly cleanly. My old station was a 968A++ if I remember rightly - as you say I think some calibration was in order because mine was waaaay out ha ha!
Why would you use metal needle nosed pliers? Surely they act as a giant heat sink and make it necessary to add too much heat to the new port and the possibility damaging the plastic structure inside the port.
+William Marani the gel is flux - it's not to protect the chip it's used to encourage the solder to flow so the chip lifts easily. The yellow Kapton tape is used to protect components such as the RAM blocks etc. Cheers.
Does the pins have to be soldered individually like in the video like shown in 23:46 or is the pins just simply being soldered onto the pads good enough because I'm having a hard time getting it perfect like you, with each pin having its own pad, If the pins do have to be individually soldered on their own respective pads, what iron and what method is the easiest to accomplish this or any helpful tips you have?
+shadowblitz1511 Hi, yes indeed they need to be soldered seperately - no one pin can touch another otherwise the port will not work correctly. I am in the process of doing a revised video for people still having issues (and my new, preferred method for installation) and it will show the best way to accomplish this. In short, remove the old port with hot air, use some fine braid and hot air to clear the old ground pins of any excess solder so the locating holes are then clear. Clear and re-tin the pins with new solder. Align the port, then tack a couple pins into position, then use the drag soldering technique to finalise the soldering procedure and secure all data pins. Finally, flip the board over and resolder the ground pins. You need a fairly powerful iron to do this properly with one fine tip and one bigger bullet / shovel tip and use plenty of flux.
Hey Andrew I've a slim PS4 Model: CUH-2216A What is the part number for the HDMI IC? All I can see on ebay is the old Panasonic IC that works on CUH-10XX and CUH-12XX Please help!
What was the stuff you kept wiping on? That turned liquid when hot? What was the little flat thing you were pushing down on to flatten the holes, and to clean something else idr. Also what was the tool used to heat the pins until they fell out? And lastly.. my sauder tool or whatever is pointy, is that okay?
Help Andrew when i put the new port back on the board while heating the board, the connection INSIDE THE PORT MELT. How do i avoid that. Please answer me with very simple english cause i'm french. Very best regards. I follow you since years. You see i'm 63 and i shake a lot and it's very hard for me to put the port back in the 4 holes and i have to heat and when it's done, the connector is melted inside the port and it's not good anymore. Do you have a way. I heat and preheat. I heat at 500 degrees. Thank's again.
+purp0 susanoo Hi, sadly not they're a special fitment - either way they're only £2 each so it's really not worth the hassle and at that price should be changed for a new part every time.
+Andrew Paul thanks for the reply. my girlfriend just messed up hers a couple of hrs ago and we couldn't do anything at the time, we were both sad, especially since the division came out today :( now we have to wait for eBay to deliver it
Sorry for making this question a little difficult to answer, but what tools and anything you used in the video are needed? I wasn't able to quite hear the name of everything you used, so if you could tell me I would appreciate it. thanks.
Hello Andrew, What do you call the tool you are using to punch through/clean the through board mount holes. I have a ps4 board that has the pads 2 and 3 shorted, any clues as to where that may be TY
+mark rudisill hi Mark, I just use hot air and some 0.8mm desolder braid to dip through the holes and this cleans them up really nicely with a bit of flux. I won't have a board in front of me for the next week or so as I'm on holiday so not able to cast much light on your short issue sadly at the moment. Cheers.
+Andrew Paul I saw in one of your videos, some sort of tool you are using, it looks like your clearing the holes with it but I may be mistaken. I'll look and see what video it is TY
+mark rudisill Ok here is the video PS4 HDMI Port / Socket Replacement Tutorial - How to repair your PlayStation 4 HDMI Port Easily. the tool im talking about is used about 10:27 TY
+mark rudisill ah - that's just a pair of tweezers to poke some port remnants out of the hole which had been left behind due to the previous port being damaged. Cheers.
You need an air wand to remove it really. I prefer to reinstall with the iron as I'll show on my revised tutorial shortly. the air wand here is a quick 861dw @ 1000W. My soldering iron is a Jovy iSolder 40 @ 50W.
Thanks for the fast answer, Is it ok? www.amazon.it/Einhell-4520179-TH-HA-2000-Pistola/dp/B00HT95ABE/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464307062&sr=8-1-fkmr2&keywords=pistola+aria+1000W
Oh god no! That's a paint stripper don't ever be tempted to use anything like that on your PS4 as it will do serious damage. It needs proper a PCB Rework station to do the work properly and those aren't cheap. Cheers.
hi andrew my ps4 don't recognize ethernet cable.... see wifi but not ethernet (in this ps4 i change the ic hdmi panasonic with successfull) what test i do for resolve it?
Try a new cable. Check no bent pins within the Ethernet port. Test pins with a DMM to check none are broken etc - check with both cable in and cable out. Replace the port if necessary. Failing that, check solder joints on the Ethernet port and if that fails it could be an issue with the Marvell Ethernet controller IC or a surface mount on the circuit. You'd need to compare component values of a known-good board to work out which if any are bad in the area of the IC. It eventually interfaces with the Southbridge but would think this being damaged is highly unlikely.
So my ps4 is messing around lately. when i connect it to the tv and turn it powers. light from blue to white. its on and running but nothing appears on the screen. when i turn the tv off and back on, everything comes on for like 5secs and then it goes back to a black screen with just sound. i have tried most of the safe mode options, nothing is working. HELP
Kinda a long shoot but I got the same board and I can't seem to find the correct hdmi port for a replacement bc everything is newer do you by chance have a link to the correct port?
What kind of rework station do you recommend? There's lots of one's like these: Hot Air Gun Solder iron Welder 898D+ Soldering Rework Station. But I'm worrired that will be to mcuh. I can't seem to find one thats 861DW, where abouts would I buy one like yours if I may ask?
+Casey Davies www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quick-861DW-ESD-Lotstation-HOT-AIR-1kW-120l-min-/252164221460?hash=item3ab628aa14:g:saAAAOSwVL1WAYfX Somatin are official distributors in Europe and this is their eBay store. This is where mine came from. Cheers.
sorry quite a noob question..actually what are the symptoms that acquired u to change the port.... i got 1 ps4...when i switch it on..all thing turn to red(in the tv) is that the symptoms? tq
+Adam Mazran Maznin If you remove the HDMI lead and look down the port check that the pins are clean and that none are lifted up / broken / missing or mangled at the back of the connector. If all looks well then it could well be either a failure of the Encoder IC or the circuitry controlling it.
Pins pushed out the rear of the port? should be easy for someone local who specialises in console repair to change it out for you. I guess it depends where you're located.
hi just a quick question i was looking for the quick 861dw but cant find one i did how ever find a csi 900+ would this surfice as max temp 485deg and according to datasheet max airflow is only 23ltr min max? in your opinion would this be ok? as i wasted money buying a clone 898d already?
Don't do it - it's another Aoyue clone. If you want to get a Quick 861DW in the UK look here - Somatin are European resellers for Quick and are where I got mine via their eBay webstore: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quick-861DW-ESD-Soldering-Station-stacja-lutownicza-HOT-AIR-1kW-120l-min-/222323201265?hash=item33c37ed4f1:g:bo4AAOSwBPNXSYxW
+neromana2 You'll need a fair few bits and pieces - if you're only intending to do the one and you've never tried anything like this before I'd recommend just paying to have someone do it for you as it's by far and away more cost effective. Anyway, you'd need: - 1x Solder station in the 20-25w region. - 1x very fine (precision) tip for the above soldering iron. - 1x shovel / bullet tip for the above soldering iron. - 1x length of leaded (60/40 sn/pb) solder. - 1x length of small diameter de-solder braid (anything around 1mm should do). - 1x Flux paste. - 1x Hot air tool with a fairly fine nozzle (specifically for PCB rework - e.g. not a paint stripper / hairdryer). - 1x Replacement HDMI Port for the PS4. If you haven't done anything like this before and are determined to have a go then please don't just jump onto your PS4 board - get some scrap PC / XBOX / PlayStation etc motherboards from somewhere like eBay for £2 each and practice taking off the ports and putting them back. When you're confident only then take on your PS4. Good luck if you decide to have a go!
hey um my ps4 just recently started doing this thing where the hdmi will not work properly when it does work it shows the ps4 screen and everything but it also creates a lot of static on the screen pls help
I only got one TV, but I took by my mom bout two weeks ago and it work good, there is only two input on my TV, and when I put there nothing happen, it working tonight thou, been on UA-cam and Netflix, but as soon as I start a game it switch off
+Peter Watson Turn HDMI control off and try toggling the Enable HDCP setting in the PS4 system menu and see if that stops it. Ideally if you can test the PS4 on a friend's or family members TV that would be good as then you can rule out the TV or the PS4 as the fault.
I turn of the HDMI of and put on the HDCD and for now I can cornet to the online games, I couldn't do that yesterday, let's hope it stay, I even got a new HDMI cord, but that was not the problem, cause as soon I turn the PS4 on, my TV switch of, it eventually came bout a 30 min after for me to turn of the HDMI, Ithe real test is when I turn of my TV tonight and put it on in the morning, anyhow bro, thanks a million for the help ☺☺☺☺☺☺
great video, and after watching it a few times and getting my hands on a hot air solder station I sat about now tonight.. I was almost home free, but sorry to say, some of the 'pads ore 'roads' if you like , leading from the small feets of the hdmi did loosen aswell, from the Board it self( green coating liftet as I liftet the port of the Board as you @ 10,03. ahhhhh. But that's how it turns out sometimes .
hello mate. I have a question, is it o.k to use a blow torch which can reach a max. temp of 600centigrade when doing this sort of work, problem is that mine has only 2 setting and top setting can reach 600. ive used it before to take components off motherbords pcbs and it removed them ok. but just wanted to know if it safe to use with a ps3 and if there are any risks ? cheers mate
+Andrew Paul Thanks so you're saying the iron is not set to any particular setting? It just sets itself from get go? That's a bit weird unless it's a stand alone unit. In that case what wattage does it have?
Indeed. It's very clever - it detects what tip is inserted and measures the heat loss through the tip when touching the surface it's soldering to - it then adjusts its output to maintain a consistant temperature. No idea on the wattage either - it's a Jovy isolder 40. Cheers.
Bend the locating ground pins to the right as you look at the rear of the port by around a millimeter - they should line up pretty much perfectly then. It's common on all replacement ports pretty much.
Hello Andrew, Your tutorial is great. After watching several, yours by far is the best. I replaced the port on a friends board and may have either used too much heat or i did have some bridging on the first attempt. The second attempt went allot smoother with another new port, but i seem to have a short now at pin 2 to ground. I removed the port again and still have pin 2 short to ground. after watching the even better information in your pin out repair video, I see that pin 2 goes to what looks like a smd cap. So if i remove it and the short is gone, then problem found other wise, I need to know what else pin 2 connects too TY. BTW I uesd my hot air station set on 500 C
Hey i need help my friend tried to replace my HDMI port and didn't expect the pins behind the port ...Ripped em all out and now we think i need a new PS4 lol Is there a way to fix those pins on the Motherboard ...Or am i going to have to buy a new one?
To be honest mate if they're all ripped you'd be better replacing the board and BD-ROM logic board if you can find a matched set or buying a new machine. That sort of damage is time-consuming and very fiddly to repair, not to mention that there's a very good chance he's ripped pads to ground in there which is another whole mess to have to worry about too. I'd dump it.
Alright that is what i thought lol Guess i will wait for the new PS4.5 lol You are a genius BTW i watched your vids and WOW!! lol Super Human Intelligence :D
+SuperEmil2010 Have you checked continuity across the HDMI filters from IC to the port and ensured you have no bridges or shorts in your soldering? They're very fine pitch legs and easy to short - 95% of the time it's either this or a poorly soldered pin. Give each the 'wiggle' test to ensure they're all properly in position and check shorts with a multimeter as a starting point. Good luck!
+Andrew Paul i come from Germany i not speak good Englisch i ceck all soldering what i must test with a Multimeter ? i bought the PS4 on ebay as Brocken it let not turn on i changed the Power supply and now she have the WLOD and what is the HDMI Filters ? i have not understand ?
+Sharrad Francis Hi, ports are a couple of pounds new - a dislocated port should not really be reinstalled as they can be internally damaged. Where are you located?
hey is there any chance you could fix my ps4 or can recommend a place that will do it. its my HDMI Port its slightly damaged or something and I would like to fix it so it doesn't get worse. And how much will it cost me ?
Hey recently my hdmi port has went out on my ps4. Can send it to you for repairs, because I really don't want to wait a couple weeks on Sony to repair it. Also what would be an estimate cost for this. Thanks for your helpful videos
I just ruined 5 HDMI replacement ports trying this. I just can't seem to undo any mistakes once I solder on the HDMI port to the mobo so I trash them. Solder wick isn't work no matter how much flux I apply and I've tried every size tip I have. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong, I'm tinning the tip every time but once I try the drag solder method its just a bunch of bridged pins I end up with. This is hopeless I don't know what else to do
Hi, what make, model and wattage iron are you using there? Does the tip have a model designation also? Also, which flux are you using and are you working with leaded or lead-free solder?
Andrew Paul I'm using a 862D soldering station, a cheap $60 product that got good reviews as a decent product. The tips are unbranded but changeable. I'm using unbranded flux paste from China applied with a brush and gootwick copper braid. I've yet to try some Amtech no clean flux I have since I'm weary about the residue afterwards. Do you have any tips or suggestions you can give me? My biggest problem is drag soldering. When I lie my tinned iron flat on the PCB to move it across the HDMI pins, the solder doesn't concentrate on the point I need it to run across the pins. So when I apply more solder, all I get is a globby bridge mess that I can't fix afterwards because the plastic backing seems to melt into the pins after several desperate attempts
Hi Keith, I think you've got several issues here - as I've alluded to on a couple of videos previously a lot of the time it's likely not you - but most probably the equipment letting you down. If you've got the Amtech flux to hand I'd definitely be using that. Much of the unbranded Chinese stuff might as well be Vaseline to be honest and it doesn't aid the soldering process much. Once you've done with the Amtech some 99% IPA solvent can be used to remove it and any residue it might leave on the board. I think with that alone you'd see a big difference. The big issue I think you're having though is with the iron. For $60 the 862D stations are alright for basic soldering jobs but they're not really suitable for PS4 multi-layer PCB boards. The big problem with the HDMI header on the PS4 is that it's sat on a large area of ground which will pull heat from the pads as you try to solder them as they're just large areas of copper. This isn't a problem with most branded stations as they're designed to better regulate tip temperature. For example with the Jovy iSolder series, Hakko, Weller, JBC stations etc the tips have temp probes at the very end of the tip so it's measuring the temperature at the joint source. Consequently it measures the heat draw through the tip a lot more accurately - not to mention the internals are of much higher quality so they can compensate for this loss much more responsively and accurately all of which means the tip temperature remains stable allowing the joint to be flowed properly. They also have the heating elements within the tips themselves which again minimizes the heat draw effects and subsequent losses. The issue with the 862D and similar stations is that the temp probes are way back in the handle by the element. The problem with this is that the temperature is measured far back from the tip where the actual joint is being made. What tends to happen therefore is that the heat draw through the tip pulls the temp low but as the probes are by the element this isn't noticed as quickly as it should be. So the tip temp drops below what is needed. Eventually this draw pulls the temperature of the element low which the station then picks up back in the handle - it then tends to overcompensate and overshoots the temperature which can in some cases leads to pads lifting or things melting which shouldn't. Gootwick is excellent quality braid - with the right iron and flux it will remove bridges from PS4 HDMI ports without issue so I'm sure your issue here is with the equipment rather than the way in which you're trying to use it. I can understand why people don't want to pay £200-300 minimum on a station when they're not doing much work on these consoles (my new JBC iron just cost me £850!) but as a bare minimum I'd recommend looking at either a Quick branded station or a Jovy iSolder series iron. They can be picked up for sub-£200 prices and are excellent value for the performance they provide. I believe much of the Quick line are licensed Weller designs (or at least they were a couple of years back) and the performance / build and component quality are superb especially at their price points. Jovy's iSolder series is compatible with Hakko T12 series tips so there's a huge range and they can be had cheaply from around the net. These would be my recommendations for you going forwards if you'll be doing a good number of units in the future. It'll make your life and experiences much easier and more enjoyable!
Hey Andrew so I'll definitely be giving that Amtech flux paste a try my next attempt but I get the feeling it has heat damage from all those failed HDMI attempts. I'll use it as a test subject if anything and once I have my method and technique worked out I can start repairs on the other 5 broken PS4's I have in my possession. I am trying to repair them so I can sell them refurbished online. I really want to become self sufficient and make my own money doing something I truly enjoy. I'm constantly trying to improve myself and have come to realize I can not work comfortably around others so its up to me to find a way to make my own income. I've taken a big gamble attempting this but I feel its worth trying my best and that I can really do it. My first failure was a scary moment since I didn't realize the technical skill it required in addition to the amount of patience needed. I will definitely have to order a new soldering iron later on, but I just can't afford to now since I've spent almost $1,000+ already on supplies and PS4 consoles to repair. If worse comes to worse and HDMI repairs proves impossible with the station I have then I'll get the money somehow and go that route For now I've order some fresh tips in case the ones I'm using are oxidized, more solder, and I am planing to go back in and solder those 19 pins individually since drag soldering seems out the question with the equipment I'm using. I've never done this before and invested a lot of money and time learning all that I can and am quite frankly all in at this point so I am pretty nervous at how this will all work out. Despite this I am enjoying learning all about how to solder and practicing with practice soldering kits I've ordered to keep things fun. I truly believe I'll get better and am truly grateful to you for sharing your knowledge and experience. Thanks so much and I will fill you in on my progress!
Hey Andrew here's an update. So I managed solder on the pins for the HDMI port after a few more failed attempts. I got my microscope set up and was able to see that I was putting on WAY too much solder initially and was melting the plastic backing onto the pins. I tried again today and think I managed to solder all of them with no bridging. But after testing out the repair, I still get a white light of death on the PS4 when it powers on so. I'm thinking that maybe I didn't apply enough solder on one of the pins or there is a cold solder joint on one of the 4 legs of the HDMI port. How do you recommend I proceed from here to troubleshoot? Also how can I test to see if the HDMI chip needs replacement?
GOD bless you ,thanks for sharing yoour videos man, i did the fix to hdmi port great, i follow you guide when the pad is broken and i work great. thanks.keep on making good videos.
Hey I'm wondering if you work in a career that helped you learn these skill sets? I do some basic soldering, and retro game repairs, but I would like to learn how to work more with the smaller solder point like the line of hdmi connections, and chips
No it's all self-taught - started when I was 14 with a basic Antex 15w soldering iron and an old VCR remote control PCB for practice (they we're really rather complicated beasts back then). 29 now - time flies when you're having fun!
i need help my ps4 has something wrong with it and i dont know what happened i have a feeling its the hdmi but im no tech guy im just a 15 year old who wants to play his games but for me money isnt an issue also i live in California so idk what to do pls give me advice
Hey quick question Andrew how would I be able to get in contact with you because I need help fixing my ps4 and need the help of someone who know what they're doing so please respond to this comment I really would like it if you could fix my ps4 too
+austin riles I use 60/40 tin leaded solder. For any link wires I need to run for lifted pads etc I use 30AWG Kynar wrapping wire or 35AWG magnet wire depending on how much space I have available to me.
hi Andrew! i need to change the hdmi port on my ps4, and was wondering if i could send it to you, to get it fixed! how much would u charge for this if u could do this for me ? i live in norway btw:)
where are you based? i have also recently noticed a problem with my port as in one pin was pushed up, i pushed it back down and got it working but then eventually do to it becoming so weak it snapped so now its completely broken. I feel i could replace it myself with tutorials but if depending on your price and where you are i might just send it to you for repair.
+Connor Day Hi mate, I'm based in West Yorkshire of the UK. I offer repair solutions on a limited basis via eBay at the link below: www.ebay.co.uk/usr/lufcfan2004 Many thanks.
I don't tend to recommend any supplier as such for stuff like this - just find a reliable seller with good feedback ratings. They're all similarly priced and they'll all get their ports from the same manufacturer in China so just go for the one which offers the best deal for you.
Cheers mate - congratulations on the successful repair!
You mention (here or in another video) that the HDMI Pins are actually tiny. After watching several of your PS4 repair I started to ignore the fact.
So I went for a broken PS4 and a replacement HDMI Port.
Man these Pins are really tiny. ;)
Of course I had a solder bridge between PINs 17 to 19.
+umpy315 I think I know the one you're referring to - I had a chuckle myself at a couple of the bits be was saying.
+Kyle247l well done mate! :-)
What were the names of the solder and Flux? I'd like to buy it as well! Thanks mate!
Kingbo RMA-218 flux that Andrew used in this video and 0.55mm Multicore 63/37 lead solder
Appreciate it man, thanks. Was it easy to fix? I have a Weller soldering iron and some Flux and solder already available
Does 1mm Diameter solder also Work?
You don't need PSTV to play with the vita.
I said use vita to used ps4. Not sure what you mean?
Greetings and many thanks from Las Vegas. I was able to fix my AV receiver hdmi output port following your method. Cheers mate look me up next time you are in Las Vegas I will buy you a nice pint.
Cheers mate and congrats on the successful repair. LV is definitely on my 'to visit' list :-)
Andrew Paul can you fix my ps4 please i live in durham nc
Andrew Paul what model of air station would you recommend please???
+Pali May Not if you use a quality air station it won't be an issue. Use an Aoyue and as you say you'll struggle.
Thank you.
thank you again for your tips . I am now fixing hdmi ports with no sweat . Thanks again for all your videos
Excellent video! Keep up the great work!
Cheers :-)
+Andrew Paul can i ship my ps4 to u i stay in schotland so i think we are close
Ayyy irunyew said hey
Have all the pins got to be soldered to to board separately? Meaning one pin can't be soldered to the next?
+JoshTheUkGamer Correct. All 19 are separately soldered and cannot touch together.
+Andrew Paul okay thanks for your help!
I cannot desolder the grounding holes... Do you completely desolder those? I used a super wick and Hakko 888d soldering station at 399C...
+Aashish Shrestha Hi,
Yes you'll not manage it with an iron. You'll need to use hot air, concentrate it on the tip of the wick and 'dip' it through the holes with plenty of flux. I tend to find a drop of leaded solder helps too. It should then suck right out leaving the holes nice and clear.
Hey Paul, another great video yet again, bloody repair shops :)
+fozzyozzy106 Indeed mate!
can you post something on how to repair/replace the power button on a ps4 console, I have a working gold band on it but the button doesn't touch because I broke it accidentally.
+David Gamez-Alvarez I'll see what I can do. Cheers.
managed to get 16 mins into this video before just buying a new ps4 on amazon...
U shouldve waited for the ps4 neo. i feel bad for u
Didn't exist when I posted the comment but why could I not just get 1 when it comes out?
+john hendo Oh your rich i see.... nvm then
+ThexXxXxOLOxXxXx
Or he's got barely enough money to feed himself but wants to throw his money at Sony because PlayStation is love, PlayStation is life.
Jonny Condor LMAO 😂
Thank you very much for the video, followed it to tee and it worked, keep up the good work.
Thank you and congratulations on the successful repair! Happy gaming :-)
How hot does the iron need to get and can I have a list of items to get to do the job. Gonna try this out tonight
See my 'Equipment I Use' video for all of this info. Cheers. :-)
+Andrew Paul thanks man appreciate it
I was Installing led on the analog but now the controller only works wired in the battery is good I check it on another controller do know what might be the problem why it's not catching power from the battery
It's a pain but first of all I'd recommend removing the LEDs and seeing if the problem is still present. If so then you can rule that out. Is there anything obvious like missing components which might have been knocked off / shorts etc which might explain the problem? Always pays to check the simple things first.
Thanx For the Video
i need to ask on what temperature you put your Rework Station and air flow, i did not catch it, you were talking too fast
i use the Aoyue 968A and it is really good, but it may need some calibration first to get the right temp.
I usually do drag soldering to put back the HDMI Port, i will see if your method works better for me,
i also use the Pump to remove the solder excess from the four GND points, do not know if it is good idea since the area is hot and could knock some cap/res.
i think i'll but the soldering iron you use, it looks great
Hi mate,
It was 485 degrees C @ 65l/min airflow - gets things off nice and quickly but most importantly cleanly.
My old station was a 968A++ if I remember rightly - as you say I think some calibration was in order because mine was waaaay out ha ha!
+Andrew Paul thanx, i usually put it on 450 c on 55l/m on this kind of work
ya mine is 968A+ and needed around 40C calibration
Do you think I'd be able to substitute a heat gun with a hair dryer?
+bobylopo No - not a chance sadly.
Why would you use metal needle nosed pliers? Surely they act as a giant heat sink and make it necessary to add too much heat to the new port and the possibility damaging the plastic structure inside the port.
hello, i would like to know what's the name of the gel that you usually use to protect the ps4 chip from the high temperature
+William Marani the gel is flux - it's not to protect the chip it's used to encourage the solder to flow so the chip lifts easily. The yellow Kapton tape is used to protect components such as the RAM blocks etc. Cheers.
+Andrew Paul ok, thanks man!
what is the "gold colored" cable at 12:20 you cleaning the board with it ?
+Ferdows Alif That is desolder braid (sometimes referred to as desolder wick or desolder tape).
+Andrew Paul Thank you very much, that helps a lot!!!
How do you open the ps4? Also what do you use for the screw?
H Entertainment Right! He skipped a huge step.
Hey Andrew I've a slim PS4 Model: CUH-2216A
What is the part number for the HDMI IC? All I can see on ebay is the old Panasonic IC that works on
CUH-10XX and CUH-12XX
Please help!
can you remove the hdmi without solder iron/vacuum? can I just use a solder gun/pen?
Not really - the board is very easily damaged.
hi paul
how much the shops takes to reapir it plzzz answer as soon as possilble (price in dollars )
No idea as I'm in UK. Here anywhere between £60-£80 is average.
Andrew Paul thanks for the reply
subbed😎
You're welcome :-)
What was the stuff you kept wiping on? That turned liquid when hot? What was the little flat thing you were pushing down on to flatten the holes, and to clean something else idr. Also what was the tool used to heat the pins until they fell out? And lastly.. my sauder tool or whatever is pointy, is that okay?
Hi there
Have u ever done a graphics card displayport replacement???
Can you do it??
hello!! l change the HDMI but ir gives me green screen and sometimes the black screen stays and without the video that recommends me ... thanks
Check port soldering connections - if all is good and no bridges then replace Encoder IC.
hey buddy what solution do you use to clean the motherboard ? I have my ps4 I wanna fix
+Corey Kejick hi mate, that is 99% proof Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA).
Thank's again.
hi quick question can I just take a hdmi port off something else like a DVD player or so and put it on my ps4?
+purp0 susanoo Hi, sadly not they're a special fitment - either way they're only £2 each so it's really not worth the hassle and at that price should be changed for a new part every time.
+Andrew Paul thanks for the reply. my girlfriend just messed up hers a couple of hrs ago and we couldn't do anything at the time, we were both sad, especially since the division came out today :( now we have to wait for eBay to deliver it
+purp0 susanoo Bad times. Good luck with the repair though! :-)
Can u do the same thing for a laptop
Indeed.
+Andrew Paul my ps4 need fully replaced can you help I don't have equipment for this kind of situation
+Andrew Paul my hdmi port need to be fix please help
+SaiyanGoku 1 where are you located?
+Andrew Paul how much should someone charge to do this for you
Sorry for making this question a little difficult to answer, but what tools and anything you used in the video are needed? I wasn't able to quite hear the name of everything you used, so if you could tell me I would appreciate it. thanks.
How hot does the solder iron need to be n what type of solder do u use
Cheers.
hello, I've only tried it with a soldering iron, but the piece does not come off. Does the Phon is essential? How many watts your phone? Thanks
Cheers.
thanks a lot!
hi andrew
my ps4 don't recognize ethernet cable....
see wifi but not ethernet
(in this ps4 i change the ic hdmi panasonic with successfull)
what test i do for resolve it?
HELP
Sounds like a failing Encoder IC - one for a repair shop :-)
Kinda a long shoot but I got the same board and I can't seem to find the correct hdmi port for a replacement bc everything is newer do you by chance have a link to the correct port?
Would you fix mine for £££, the boards already taken out, might be cheaper than buying Heat gun, heat film etc
+Casey Davies www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quick-861DW-ESD-Lotstation-HOT-AIR-1kW-120l-min-/252164221460?hash=item3ab628aa14:g:saAAAOSwVL1WAYfX
Somatin are official distributors in Europe and this is their eBay store.
Ok..noted bos...tq
But where can I bring it to fix it like the pins are pushed back
Pins pushed out the rear of the port? should be easy for someone local who specialises in console repair to change it out for you.
If you want to get a Quick 861DW in the UK look here - Somatin are European resellers for Quick and are where I got mine via their eBay webstore: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Quick-861DW-ESD-Soldering-Station-stacja-lutownicza-HOT-AIR-1kW-120l-min-/222323201265?hash=item33c37ed4f1:g:bo4AAOSwBPNXSYxW
salut pourrait tu me dire qu'elle produit que tu utilise pour nettoyer le flux de soudure
merci
+olivier desaute if I understand correctly then I use Isopropyl alcohol to clean flux from the board and flush underneath the BGAs. Many thanks.
Please Help me.
Why are still the pins on the mainboard when you take out the hdmi port?
they're not pins - those are pads which the legs of the port solder to. without those your new port will not install.
+Andrew Paul and should i do something with them? or only take out the old port and put the new one
+MoMo Cr7 should i connect those pads with the legs of the port?
Yes.
+Andrew Paul and how can i connect them? do they connect automatically?
Can you replace the Ethernet port the same way?
please can you tell me all the tools I need for this job.
+neromana2 You'll need a fair few bits and pieces - if you're only intending to do the one and you've never tried anything like this before I'd recommend just paying to have someone do it for you as it's by far and away more cost effective. Anyway, you'd need:
- 1x Solder station in the 20-25w region.
+Andrew Paul thank you very much I sub and like.
Does it matter if the soldering on each pin touch each other?
Hi,
Yes it does - no one pin can touch another.
hey um my ps4 just recently started doing this thing where the hdmi will not work properly when it does work it shows the ps4 screen and everything but it also creates a lot of static on the screen pls help
+little cod gaming (littlecodgaming) That sounds like a failing HDMI Encoder IC - an easy replacement for an experienced technician.
yeaaahhh about that I'm not a experienced technician
+little cod gaming (littlecodgaming) Take it to a repair store and I'm sure they'll be able to hook you up.
+Andrew Paul also about that I'm only 14 qnd I don't have a car and i don't know if there's any repair shop near me plus it's night time right now
Hello, from where you buy your soldering. Please answer as soon as possible. Thank you
Can You make a videos of the equipment you have the brands and why you like and chose that machine.
+djs2456 It's on my very long to-do list ha ha! I have one for BGA reballing equipment which will cover a big part of what I use. Cheers.
hey what was that stuff you put on before you did the soldering
That's flux paste.
what tools do i need for this
I only got one TV, but I took by my mom bout two weeks ago and it work good, there is only two input on my TV, and when I put there nothing happen, it working tonight thou, been on UA-cam and Netflix, but as soon as I start a game it switch off
+Peter Watson Turn HDMI control off and try toggling the Enable HDCP setting in the PS4 system menu and see if that stops it.
+maxsollie It might still be salvageable. Check out my HDMI Pinout tutorial video for the repair points. Good luck!
hello mate. I have a question, is it o.k to use a blow torch which can reach a max. temp of 600centigrade when doing this sort of work, problem is that mine has only 2 setting and top setting can reach 600. ive used it before to take components off motherbords pcbs and it removed them ok.
but just wanted to know if it safe to use with a ps3 and if there are any risks ? cheers mate
+ThereWillBePeace1 Hi mate, No I wouldn't advise using a blowtorch - I would imagine bad things will indeed happen. Cheers.
Thx my friend! I'm use this guide and replace HDMI like a pro)
+Vitaliy Pavlov you're welcome!
can you take the hdmi out of the xbox and put it in the ps4?
Luke Langston HDMI is universal.. Yes you can. When you buy the HDMI part is also universal. You should be good to go!
Hey Andrew what temps ranges did you use on the air station and soldering gun when removing and reinstalling? Thanks
+get it done the air station is at 465 Celsius. The iron is self regulating so no idea on that one. Cheers.
Cheers.
Very hard job, look very easy. You need lots of practice. Hdmi pins are hairline thin.
my new ports pins are off by a hair, how to line up?
Bend the locating ground pins to the right as you look at the rear of the port by around a millimeter - they should line up pretty much perfectly then. It's common on all replacement ports pretty much.
how much to fix mine for me mate, hdmi just recently broke, pins have dropped and the port is snapped, completely useless now
Where are you located mate?
My ps4 hdmi port sometimes works and I need to plug it in and out until it works what is the problem?
Replace the port.
😂
+XxToxicRoarzxX hi
Hello Andrew, Your tutorial is great. After watching several, yours by far is the best. I replaced the port on a friends board and may have either used too much heat or i did have some bridging on the first attempt. The second attempt went allot smoother with another new port, but i seem to have a short now at pin 2 to ground. I removed the port again and still have pin 2 short to ground. after watching the even better information in your pin out repair video, I see that pin 2 goes to what looks like a smd cap. So if i remove it and the short is gone, then problem found other wise, I need to know what else pin 2 connects too TY. BTW I uesd my hot air station set on 500 C
my ps4 has a red screen whenever I turn it on is that the hdmi or something else?
check the port for damage. if it looks in good shape it's probably an Encoder IC issue. cheers.
Alright that is what i thought lol Guess i will wait for the new PS4.5 lol You are a genius BTW i watched your vids and WOW!! lol Super Human Intelligence :D
im guessing buying the equipment is the same price as getting it fixed or more
If you're only wanting to do the one it'd make more sense to get it repaired than DIY it, yes.
My PS4 have the WLOD i change the HDMI Panasonic Chip and the HDMI Port but the Problem is not fixed i need help
+SuperEmil2010 This should explain most of it:
ua-cam.com/video/-glW2Mv-XKs/v-deo.html
Good luck! :)
+Andrew Paul thank you i will test that can you sende me the picture what pins i must ceck with the multimeter ?
Really world class excellent video - it is excellent and it works. AP is a very very good methodical technician 100% :-)
Hey my TV keep switching of when I turn on my PS4, or I might be in a game and boom, it just switch of, help pl
+Peter Watson Does the power to the TV go off or do you just get random black screens from the PS4?
What temperature did you set for soldering out the broken hdmi socket
485C @ 100l/min.
Thanks a you are the best price repair socket hdmi in poland 500 polish zlotych when socket buy so 15 polsih zlotych
um my HDMI port is not broken it's just got pushed back into my ps4 any tips we're I can get it fix or how
+Sharrad Francis Hi, ports are a couple of pounds new - a dislocated port should not really be reinstalled as they can be internally damaged. Where are you located?
+Andrew Paul In Florida any stores that can help
+Andrew Paul any stores
+Sharrad Francis I'm not sure about the States to be honest. Sorry.
hey is there any chance you could fix my ps4 or can recommend a place that will do it. its my HDMI Port its slightly damaged or something and I would like to fix it so it doesn't get worse. And how much will it cost me ?
Where are you located mate?
Hey recently my hdmi port has went out on my ps4. Can send it to you for repairs, because I really don't want to wait a couple weeks on Sony to repair it. Also what would be an estimate cost for this. Thanks for your helpful videos

Can you just pull it of then replay it since its already broke
No definitely not! You'll damage the motherboard and you'll cause irreparable damage to it to boot.
Hi Keith,
I think you've got several issues here - as I've alluded to on a couple of videos previously a lot of the time it's likely not you - but most probably the equipment letting you down.
Hey how do you know how to fix all this stuff?
GOD bless you ,thanks for sharing yoour videos man, i did the fix to hdmi port great, i follow you guide when the pad is broken and i work great. thanks.keep on making good videos.
+raulmorel1 cheers mate - it's things like this which makes it all worthwhile. Congrats on the successful repair.
Hi how much would you charge to fix my hdmi pal
Where are you located mate? Cheers.
Will this fox audio problem???
+swaggerammathegamer STG Very possibly so. Does wiggling the lead in the port bring the audio back? If so then yes it should do.
If not a heat gun what do I heat it up with
Only ever use a proper PCB rework station for this work. No paint strippers etc.
What kind of flux do you use and how hot is your soldering iron/ heat gun?
+1metiz Hi,
The flux is Kingbo RMA-218. See 8:48 for the temps etc.
+Andrew Paul Thanks for your answer. Can you use different kinds of flux? I have some liquid flux here.
Not for port lifting really, no. You need some paste.
29 now - time flies when you're having fun!
i need help my ps4 has something wrong with it and i dont know what happened i have a feeling its the hdmi but im no tech guy im just a 15 year old who wants to play his games but for me money isnt an issue also i live in California so idk what to do pls give me advice
it all depends on what's wrong with it really. what is the issue with it?
+Andrew Paul it goes white and i cant see display just like your other vid
If the port is intact then it's most likely a HDMI Encoder IC failure. Easy fix for an independent repair shop.
+Andrew Paul how much would it cost and how fast could i get it back
Where are you located?
Hi where are you based and how much to change my hdmi port
Hi,

Great vid man. Where can I find the video filters at my parents is missing one?
If you need filters then I can provide them and have some in stock. Where are you located?
Andrew Paul I'm located in the us Tennessee to exact
What kind of soldering wire did you use?
+austin riles I use 60/40 tin leaded solder. For any link wires I need to run for lifted pads etc I use 30AWG Kynar wrapping wire or 35AWG magnet wire depending on how much space I have available to me.
hi Andrew! i need to change the hdmi port on my ps4, and was wondering if i could send it to you, to get it fixed!
how much would u charge for this if u could do this for me ?
i live in norway btw:)
Bor i Norge jeg og
sogbat
send it to my address @ 118 dainwood st. silsbee texas once u see how I fixed your system the u can pay me how much u think it's worth
Do you still fix on people's PS4 ? My brothers hdmi port is destroyed, and would like to know how much you charge
where are you based? i have also recently noticed a problem with my port as in one pin was pushed up, i pushed it back down and got it working but then eventually do to it becoming so weak it snapped so now its completely broken. I feel i could replace it myself with tutorials but if depending on your price and where you are i might just send it to you for repair.
+Connor Day Hi mate, I'm based in West Yorkshire of the UK. I offer repair solutions on a limited basis via eBay at the link below:

Many thanks.
How long would it take for you to fix them and ship them back
+Andy Garcia it takes between 24-48hrs after receipt to turnaround in general. There's not much to them. Cheers, Andy.
Andrew Paul Do you know how much your price would be in US dollars because sony is charging 149 and that's way too much
+Andy Garcia I don't think shipping to the UK is particularly cheap so may not work out much different by the end.
where or which seller on Ebay do you buy your HDMI port part from?
I don't tend to recommend any supplier as such for stuff like this - just find a reliable seller with good feedback ratings. They're all similarly priced and they'll all get their ports from the same manufacturer in China so just go for the one which offers the best deal for you.
+Andrew Paul okay thanks again
