Can we take a second to appreciate that there is SO much happening in this bi-polar express of a commercial! It starts with an over-active grandpa having a grand ol' time with the kids, but then abruptly cuts to ladies attending what looks like grandpa's funeral!? A happy class reunion with old folks dancing, then cut to the one classmate sitting alone in a hotel room looking as if he's contemplating ending his life over a lost lover who is then shown getting ready for a fun night out on the town.... without him. Then a couple of random cuts, because yes. Then...the ear nibbling granny!!! looool She is trying her damndest to get some horizontal refreshment for the last time before the love bucket runs dry, but hubby's eyes won't turn away from the newspaper. She's left standing there, biting her nails, looking thirstier than a camel with a sweater on the beach... cut back to the jolly classmates all jitterin' and rattlin' their bag of bones. The icing on the cake of this shaky emotional rollercoaster is the falsetto of the honorable Aa-aA-AA-aa-AA-ron Ne-he-HE-he-ville. I love it.

I recall there’s a variation of this commercial where a kid cries as he waves goodbye to his friend who was being driven away by his parents in a moving truck. It was very touching.

Back then, over 30 years ago, the stigma of slavery was a distant almost forgotten memory. Aaron Neville didn't even think twice about singing an innocent song about cotton. It is only now that the woke dredge up the past and open up closed wounds to create division.
