Great idea my friend love your ideas yo DIY LA caya I bought a cheap high top as well I'm gonna turn it into a high top. For my computertitor and cut the button off the hole. Then d I y baby lot cheaper that way
Well said my friend I'm a working class person myself I bought 1 for 1300. I'm gonna turn mine into a campaign trailer into my camera and cut the bottom out DIY style. It'll last me for years I'm gonna take care of it rich guy don't have to take care of it. They'll simply buy a new one but for 1500 it is worth it. I'm not paying four thousand dollars for these things h*** no.
Hey mate, do you mean "Closing it up, packing it away?" I would just note that I'd leave the windows unzipped to allow the air to escape. If it just Locks up, check that a strut or bracket isn't fouling on something. Hope this helps mate. Cheers Brian
Hey mate. Yes great for the coin. If the others weren’t so crazy expensive I would have looked more closely at them but can’t see the value of a rooftop tent for $5000+ all the best my friend 🇦🇺🍻✌🏻
I know remember some of the high brand ones you're paying for the name. You're not so much payingful equality because they have problems on theirs. Also my friend don't be fooled by expensive four thousand dollar ones they still have problems on...
Thank you so much for your post, I imagine it wouldn't suit everyone but it does work great for us. Oh and great shape for no wind resistance. barely effected our fuel economy. Forgot to mention this in the review. Stay safe friends. :)
Really helpful and insightful video thanks Brian. I just ordered one tonight, one question I'm hoping you can help me with - Will this mount directly onto cross bars or is a flat rack roof rack absolutely necessary? Thanks
Hey Tyler, The mounts are on sliding rails under the tent. You slide in the mounting bracket that consists of a flat steel bar with 4 holes in it, two on each end of the flat bar, for different spacings that you might require depending on your roof rack width. Two cup head bolts per bracket, one at each end like a u-bolt, there are 4 brackets to mount to your rack. So there is a bit of adjustment there for width of your rack. Max is 100mm spacing wide but you could easy modify or create new ones to suit any setup really. So long as your mounting points to your vehicle can stand the weight of around 80kgs you'll be right. I guess the flat roof racks just support the whole floor but there is still only two mounts at each end even on the flat rack. Again, it's all about the strength of the rack mount to your vehicle. Tip, always tuck the canvas in totally when packing it up and insulate it. we were so warm in 0 degrees temp it was amazing. Also keeps the heat from the black shell, that does get hot, out. Great tent for the money. All the best mate. Cheers Brian and Deb.
@@LandTourier That is great to know thanks very much, I'm looking forward to getting out there in it and I look forward to following along with your adventures cheers.
Hi Brian,I thought you might be interested to know that we received our Kwiky Tent and on the very first night of use, two of the arms failed with the hinges snapping clean off. The roof collapsed on our kids while they were sleeping. This is an issue I haven't seen anyone have before. 4WDSupa Store are sending out replacement arms.
Holey hell, Hope your kids are ok.. Wow, that's crazy. How can they get it so wrong on some units. Hope you checked out the other arms also. Sorry to hear that mate. Hope all is good from here on in. No I haven't heard of this issue either. Cheers mate.
@@LandTourier yeah they're fine thanks mate, I'm just looking forward to fixing it, insulating the roof and getting a mattress topper so we can get back out there :)
Hey Beno, have you cut out a little removable insert from the mattress and topper where the gas strut mechanism folds down . I recon that’s the issue. Cheers mate, Brian
Great idea on the insulation. I just mounted mine yesterday and was looking into some similar ideas. Will be heading to clark rubber today to pick something out now I've seen this. My only question is; how has the shell held up in the sun? I have been considering some paint so it absorbs less heat and maybe lasts a bit longer, but not sure if that's necessary. Any thoughts now you've had it a while?
Hey Shane. I used turtle wax. You could use any kind of wax t hats good quality. It seems to nearly harden the shell. I found it worked great👍 cheers mate..Brian 🍻
Her mate, I used "Ametalin ThermalBreak" Expensive but so so so worth it. Stuck it down with Quik Grip brush on glue. Hope this helps mate. Oh, and use a turtle wax or Kitten car polish on the black plastic shell to make sure it never cracks. Look after it and it will look after you. Cheers mate. Hope this helped. Brian...
LandTourier thanks mate. Ended up getting one :D will do insulation after my first outing this weekend hopefully... did you do bottom or top first ? I’m just wondering how you got it in there your job looks neat. Ta
Hey mate, just purchased one a week ago. The concept is excellent and I love how quick and easy it is putting it up and down, no structural issues on mine yet just the seal around the shell needs to be placed back in every now and then. 2 issues we are having are the width of the tent and the mattress thickness/comfort aren't great and I was wondering roughly just how big of a mattress do you think we could fit inside the shell and leave it there with our bedding also? For width of the tent my partner and I switched around heads to tails which worked a treat last night. Thanks for all the tips going to turtle wax the top this week. Cheers
Hey Max, great to here from you. At the marker 8;30 on the vid I show the under insulation, same as the top and the original mattress with the Clark Rubber egg shell overlay ua-cam.com/video/frpemLaDN10/v-deo.html The over lay we got was about $130 and worth every cent. So between the 10mm insulation, standard mattress and the egg shell the comfort was great. For the bedding we had a thick Doona under, sheet, and doona on top with 1 thick pillow each. we would make the bed and put the pillows and half of the top doona in the middle where the roof shape goes up giving the most room for the thick gear. Then when we would pull up, all we would do was pop the top and put the pillows in place and the top doona was pulled back ready to pile in. Match the profile of the roof with the bedding. Hope this helps mate. Cheers Brian
Hey Daniela, I used Quik Grip from Bunnings. Brush it on both surfaces . The inside top of the shell and one side of the insulation. Wait about 15 minuets or so till the glue is nearly touch dry and then put together. Get it right though, you only get one chance at it. Very hard to pull apart. www.bunnings.com.au/selleys-500ml-kwik-grip-horizontal-contact-adhesive_p1233573 Hope this helps mate. Cheers Brian
Hey Mitch, thanks so much mate...I did spend quite a lot of time nutting out an alternative to the anchor points but came to the conclusion that it was only 8 nuts and the other ways just introduced another "point of failure" that could occur.. I guess I went to the "keep it simple" angle. All the best my friend. Hanging for a camp!!!! Cheers Brian
Hey Sam, ChecK this link out...www.bunnings.com.au/ametalin-thermalbreak-7-7-0-x-1350mm-x-22-25m-insulation_p0811234 I used Kwick Grip brush on glue. The yellow stuff. Brush it on to both surfaces and let go touch dry then put together. I took the roof off so I could turn it upside down, so much easier. Yes it is dear stuff the ThermalBreak but worth every cent. Use it in your 4x4 too. Great for under the carpet on the drive line tunnel to keep the cap cooler. Cheers mate, Brian
Hey mate, what thickness mattress are you using? And where did you get it from? Thanks mate, just picked up one of these and am doing a couple mods before I chuck it on the roof.
Hi mate, I used the standard mat but put this on top, www.clarkrubber.com.au/products/40710-comfort-plus-protect-overlay-king-single Bit pricey but, Best money I ever spent, other than the insulation. Best of luck mate. Brian
