2022 Kia Stinger GT review by The Straight Pipes. The Kia Stinger GT Elite with Suede Package is pumping out 368hp 376 lb-ft tq from a 3.3L Twin Turbo V6 thanks to a valved exhaust system. At $53,545 CAD, would you take it over a Genesis G70, VW Golf R, Acura TLX, Audi A7, Audi S7, Audi S5 Sportback, used Kia Stinger?

I really miss seeing what Android Auto looks like when you're reviewing the infotainment. Is it possible to start that up again (even with just a burner phone)? Surely it's relevant to more people than SiriusXM.
This! I'd love to see Android Auto again
For sure. They should def carry just an older Android phone so we can see what it looks like
Would definitely like to see implementation of the AA and Carplay functions

If you go with a Stinger, I highly recommend the Eibach sway bars and Coil kits (both of which can be ordered and installed through Kia). About 2k total with labor and makes a significant difference in the handling of the car and given Kia does it, no warranty issues. Also the new coils lower the car about 1 1/4" which make it look even better.
$2k for coils and sway bar? For a Kia??🤣🤣🤣
Might as well buy an entire aftermarket coilover system for that price, watch a UA-cam video or two, and install it yourself, and still save $$! 🤣🤣
You Stinger owners really are very new to the aftermarket car world aren’t you LOL
@@mmmmm4815 dude you sound like some kid who drives a riced out a 2003 civic. Stop talking you look dumb for talking down to someone just trying to give ppl free advice
@@NBABY-J for a Kia and only lowering springs and a sway bar? YES.
1. The lowering springs and sway bar, given from the factory as an “upgrade” will always be soft compared to aftermarket.
2. Springs and sway bars on Euro cars that are more expensive, will cost you around $500-$1000 total...and they will be better quality and more aggressive.
3. Springs and sway bars don’t void warranty on almost all makes of cars.
To pay $2k for this shows the lack of experience he has, or whoever chooses this option, in the car enthusiast world. Like I’ve always said, those who buy Stingers to try to be in the “cool car enthusiast crowd” are just people who have never owned a cool car in their life.
@@VaanRavi well, it was bad free advice. Just because someone offers a free piece of shit doesn’t mean it’s not a piece of shit...
@@mmmmm4815 is this something you've always said? Where did the stinger touch you? Do you just look for stinger threads and give new car owners shit? Are you the gatekeeper for cool car crowds? No one cares about your opinion if you don't understand that everyone starts somewhere, and that other people have different priorities or perspectives and can respect those that aren't their own. You're just being immature.
That being said I wouldn't spend 2000 dollars for that work...
The lag is programmed throttle and transmission delayed response. In sport mode in manual there is no lag... at all....I'm quite pleased with mine :)

Yeah I agree. Most vehicles I've had, the sport mode made only a slight difference, in this car its like you woke it up. Huge difference between sport and comfort mode (default).
Zero lag for me.
I agree with the old tail lights, the LED outline looked soooo goood.

I have a 2018 Stinger GT2 and still love it. It's a blast to drive, convenient, fits the family, good warranty, easy to live with. They also give you the ability to update the infotainment software on your own using a SD card which it just did and it matches the the software shown in the video. It did not change the backup camera.
This still is one of the most useful cars on the road. The hatchback is such a big selling features. Granted it's not an old car but it has aged pretty well and at least for me it still turns my head. Personally I love these things
How has the reliability been?
When out and about we always are on the stinger watch...I know of a white, red and that stunning blue here in Reno NV!
I still get quite a lot of attention in mine. Had it since launch
What's the hatchback never seen it but sounds very ugly
@@issavibez394that car is technically a hatchback
Bought my 2018 Stinger GT because of you guys. Still loving the car! Keep up the great work
Looks are subjective, but I really love the updates (which is why I purchased the 2022 over a 2021). The combination of the new logo, wheels, full rear light bar, leather seat pattern, and infotainment were enough to sway me. The updates really refined the vehicle. Only regret is that I didn’t get the red leather, but the black with the gray accent stitching is also nice. Ceramic silver exterior.
I’m definitely trying to get the red interior paired with either Ceramic Silver or Panthera Metal, such a beautiful color combo. Also agree that the cosmetic 2022 changes make it worth buying!
@@taralynn8980 those combos are so nice! I truly am a little mad at myself for not getting the red leather!
Just got my 22 panthera metal with red interior looks awesome
I agree. Especially new wheels are awesome!
Most changes are fine but the old rear worked better for me. Now thinking about getting one used. Is the old infotainment system still „ok“?

Watching y’all review a 3.3t stinger on a taco Tuesday is the most calming thing. Good morning Yuri and Jakub
Morning Danny!
I got the 2022 a few weeks ago. Honestly prefer it, the back looks so much better with the bigger tips.
I appreciate Jacob for keeping it in gear when doing a turbo lag test, but I honestly don't mind lag. I don't take my car to a racetrack and I think the slingshot feeling is fun
Stinger looks like a 2014 BMW 3er GT evolved in a tasteful direction; over at BMW meanwhile, it feels like they hired a Pontiac goon for their prank bucktooth designs.
The previous BMWs looked like they just copy and pasted the same design onto everything. Now, they actually look unique and I think they look great. That's just in my opinion, tho I know I'm gonna get attacked for saying this.
My 'Angry Beaver' BMW M4 has some words for you. LOL
I'm equally angry about the new side profiles. The Hofmeister kink is gone and the hips don't have any definition. The sides look so generic especially for the coupes.
@@TD1237 The new grill looks good tbh. A lot of people didn't like it when it first came out but BMW executives knew what they were doing. Compare a bmw with the new grill side by side with an older grill version. The older one looks so outdated and dull.

Def buy one. I picked up a 21 and could not be happier
I would LOVE to buy one but I can’t drive yet.
2022 is the last year for the Stinger.
I was into getting a 2022 GT Stinger but I decided to go with de 2022 G70 3.3 launch edition. Plenty of fun for sure !
Those Launch Editions look great. However, most of them are marked up to $60k+ USD. That is just too much for that car.
Same. Kia was offering GT's without the suede packages for $55k. Fully loaded G70 Sport is $59k. So naturally, I took delivery of a Vik Black G70 about 2 weeks ago.
@@LearningFastI live in Canada and here, the G70 LE is 61 000$ CAN (That's what i paid). So, i must admit, 61 000$ US is really too expensive! To be fair, the price should be around 50000$ US!.

Basically, if you don't need the hatch get the genesis.....well I think the stinger looks better too but thats what sold me. I love going to lowes and having people look at me like "you can't fit that in a maserati" haha
Loved my Stinger, excellent car. Sold it a few months ago and just bought a Mach E, so far so good! Both turned heads everywhere!
Interesting switch to the Mach E. DefDefinitely a better decision than a Model Y.

@@snakeeyes9246 Shame on ford for capitalizing on the mustang name to sell their electric shit. they should have called it the maverick or something and let it stand on its own. Maverick Mach E. Boom. Dont call a duck an eagle.

This is a cool and different family car. Highly recommend
dodge charger?😏
I actually just replaced my 2018 Stinger GT2 AWD with an suv only because I needed a real suv. The hatchback is awesome, but still a tight fit. It was honestly the best car I’ve owned for the $$$.
My only big gripe was the squeaks and rattles. Don’t forget, it’s still a budget car, and a new one at that. Maybe they’ve ironed out the flaws since the first year model I had, but the rear hatch panel and sunroof would rattle and squeak constantly after about 12k miles.
@@eiffon Cool? Yes. Different? Hell no.
@@eiffon lol. Name one thing the charger has that is better? Other than it being cheaper. Kia looks better, drives better, AWD, power hatchback etc. If you need a 4 door GT car and have a specific budget the Stinger is hard to beat. Plus they are rare on the road. I see maybe 1-2 a month in Toronto. People look at mine and have no clue what I am driving.
I prefer the Stinger Specific “E” badges that are on Stingers sold in S Korea. Those are its own thing while the new Kia badges are gonna be on ALL kias.
Kia saved the biggest updates for the lower trims of the Stinger. I agree, it did not get the G70 treatment, but hopefully that means that they are really going big for the next gen.
Am I the only one who likes the new tail lights better than the previous generations tail lights?
The red and clear combo reminds me a lot of some late eighties, nineties, and early two-thousands, Japanese cars. Particularly older Lexus and Nissans.
Actually, I like everything about it just a tad more than I did the previous generation, and I adore the previous generation!
For the money, if you can get past the fact that it's a Kia (I can, no problem) they're truly great performance sedan bargains! Get one while you can, if you can, because performance sedans are becoming more and more difficult to find!

@@bloozism Very.
I don’t seem them too much around here, but when I do, I’m always impressed.
I see stinger all the time, at least a few a day and I'm always turning my head to see them, I agree it doesn't look as good in video, funny enough after seeing a few I think the new tlx looks stunning in video and in person it's actually more bland than you would expect
What about it looks goofy/different in video? Every time I see pics/video of it I think it looks fantastic. It definitely looks better IRL, but that's true for literally every car I can think of, and it's always more noticeable for particularly good looking cars.
I just love these reviews. Chilled out with "real life" information. Great job!
Stinger GT intro = Caribbean hotel elevator music? Interesting choice.
The first Straight Pipes video I ever watched was the "top secret Stinger" video. At the time I remember this was supposed to be the "BMW Killer"; perhaps Kia gave that assignment to Genesis.
Hahahahah

I'd love if you did a review of the new 2.5t. I think that's the best part of the refresh because at around 35k with a lot of incentives in it's cheapest form it's a really competitive value proposition considering it feels nimble and light and still has a good level of dad-fast punch.
I bought a 2020 GT2 RWD last summer. I'm glad I didn't wait for the refresh. I like the the looks of mine better. I do wish I could get the upgraded screen, but that screen envy is a permanent part of car ownership, at least for the next few years. The suede package is Canada only for North America. I work at the kia plant exit 6 west point lagrange. One of my job is test driving the cars out of the plant and into designated parking lots before car haulers pick them up. Best part is driving the tellurides and the stinger gts
I think the 2nd time you tried to demonstrate lag was a stretch. The first time had some merit. But in the higher rpm range there was no lag. a The stinger in sport mode holds gears very well. Turbo lag is negligible when its in the 2500 rpm range, I drove one for nearly 4 years and never found ir to be an issue.

185k miles, and going strong on my GT1. Couldn’t have been a better car. Never. A problem.
To me, the old "ombre eyes" tail lights also look more beautiful. The new lights remind me of Galaga if it was a car.
About to buy one this Friday, 2022 GT. Excited but nervous. Hopefully no regret!
The Launch Control doesn’t actually do anything in the AWD Stinger/G70 cars. It doesn’t build boost with Launch Control. In fact boost doesn’t build until almost 20 mph with Launch Control. You can use the Emergency brake to build boost but that probably isn’t good for the car.
Kinda sad. But roll on at 20 with manual mode on in sport and trac / stability off and or a petal commander and its all go right now
If you'll get a chance then perhaps do the comparison of the last gen stinger and this gen......nice video👍 Keep it up!
They did compare both in this video
I bought one of these back in April. Loving it.
Has the same package but metallic white. I do still have the old logo but I'm in the North Europe market. Here we don't get custom/drift mode, we do get sport + though (13% front 87% rear)
Personally I don't like the last generation back end way nicer better looking with that full continuous light!
2019 Stinger GT RWD is the best combo. Hittin skids in the back of a Kia has never been more righteous.
I had a 2019 HiChroma Red GT2 RWD on lease and the dealer gave me over $12,000 more than the buyout at lease end on a trade for a 2022 HiChroma Red GT2 RWD. I am glad I upgraded. These are the improvements that are worth it for me:
the two faults with this car is there is no coupe version and the gas tank is really small. The GT-line kind of alleviates this with far better mpg on the same tank which drastically increases it range while only being half a second slower
Couldn't have said it better. You can't improve on perfection. As an owner of the pre-refresh model, I also lament the changes to the back. Also wish Kia would have more color combinations.
d-awd when in full sport mode with traction and stability off is 93:7 rear bias "drift" mode not the normal 80% , Have it in my Indigo edition and can confirm it does act/feel like 100% rwd..
Awesome! I have the 2022 stinger GT1 red interior!! It is a twin turbo V6 too
Dudes. You missed a few things that have changed as well. For example:
Ambient interior lighting is now a sliiightly different.
Borderless rear-view interior mirror.
Wireless charging now has holes in it for better cooling.
Animated turn signals at the back (if I'm right?)
What u smoking bro ? Wake up
Finished an LTT video refreshed and a Straight Pipes video pops up... Nice 👌
Very different story here in the US. The big news isn't the measly 3 hp upgrade in HP for the GT models but the massive improvements in the GT-Line with a new 2.5L turbo 4 (found in at least 7 KIA, Hyundai, and Genesis models including the K5 GT) that reduces the 0-60 mph time from about 6.5 seconds to 5.2 seconds. That puts it only about half a second slower than the GT models with the 3.3L engine with a huge savings in the price (around $40,000 fully loaded AWD). Meanwhile, the Genesis G70 cousin inexplicably retains the earlier 2.0L engine.
Despite the universally positive reviews of the Stinger, sales have been disappointing in North America. KIA hopes (with good reason) that the base GT-Line with the new engine will energize those sales.
Still loving my 2018 GT. Added Whiteline sway bars and MBRP exhaust and it’s perfect.
Excited!!
Fantastic video, my friends! Haven’t researched a car in a long time. A sports sedan for sure… unless I see something really cool. In the past your channel helped me avoid some impulse buys and choose my 2018 WRX Trim, and of course, always entertaining.
Going to take a drive of a 2020 GT1 in a few days. Keep up the good work!
Please don’t let this go unnoticed: the Canadian spec of stinger removed the front parking sensors while the US spec and other markets have these. Why? Sad...
The 2018 US version didn’t have 360 cameras, whereas the Canadian version did. Point being, nobody has any idea what Kia is doing with their regional models.
@@markclayton8977 Hyundai and Kia do a bunch of weird stuff like that and it's so annoying. Like in the US, when I bought my GT Sport, I couldn't get the tech package with the pano roof without getting the 7spd DCT, but I really wanted manual. But in Canada, along with red seatbelts they get 90% of the tech package in manual including the roof and the safety features. So I had to go DCT which was a bummer. And I really wanted the new Forte5 GT, we had the F5 SX for years but only Canada gets that model now, and in turn we can get the sedan GT in manual but without the tech package! 😂 makes no sense. And none of us get the G70 Shooting Brake 😭
Just to let you all know we're getting crazy offers right now on selling ours. Was offered the same price a bought since new since this whole chip shortage.
But I'm still keeping it. And I cant find anything else that's better all around than this car for the money!
Those pauses are built in reliability. Do it doesn’t beat up on the transmission, a 48 volt system will fill in the gaps. But over the life cycle of this car it will be easier to own out of Warranty than any Mercedes-Benz Porsche or Audi.
I may not always like the car in review but I always enjoy your presentation
Hi Yuri & Jacub, do you think a used 2022 Stinger GT Elite with Suede is worth 11K CAD more than a 2018 GT Limited, given they have around the same mileage? I prefer the infotainment and the tail light on the 22 but not sure those two things and the other upgrades are worth 11K more, would love your suggestions, TIA!
i think for a sports sedan I prefer this car. it’s less boxy in design, slightly more sleek.
Great review Jakub & Yuri! I wanna touch on your side bit about the D-AWD Drift mode. We in the US got the GTS in 2020 and it was marketed with Drift Mode, however i discovered that the 2018 GT1 AWD I bought was able to drift anyway, as I had it going sideways on a couple of occasions without really even trying. I honestly feel the entire ‘D-AWD’ thing was just a marketing gimmick to give the US a ‘Special Edition’ and mark up the cost 🤣, but any of us with AWD have the ability to drift anyway, so there’s that.
You also asked if any of us with the previous Gen Stinger plan to upgrade to the 22’… I would say that I don’t plan to cuz I prefer the previous Gen 19” wheel design and the tail lights over the refresh. BUT, that GT Elite Suede Package y’all have in Canada is PRIMO, absolutely beautiful. I’m a huge fan of Alcantara! But it’s NOT available in the US!! If there’s a way I can my hands on one, I would def be willing to trade up. Is there anything y’all are able to do to help me make that happen??
Tail lights. Tail pipes. Sunglasses holder. Would never buy a '22 for these reasons. ALSO, I dont like body-matching mirror paint. The black chrome mirrors is awesome- if a mofo to keep clean.
I'd probably still have a Genesis G70
Oof couldn’t be me lol (Very satisfied Stinger GT2 Owner here). I guess it depends if you’re looking for sport or luxury
If l were to trade in my '04 6.0 VZ Holden Commodore SS, it would be for this. Though there is no lag in a 6 liter V8 🤣
G70 seems like the more sporty and more luxurious choice. Stinger is bigger and it's also a liftback, though.
@@dxbmick the lag is programmed in to make it feel less punchy? Lol but who wants that haha.
In America, Genesis has better maintenance package including free concierge service - you never see the dealer.
I have a 2020 GT2 AWD, it's a great car ,and does good in winter ,but as soon as EV6 GT come out , I'll trade it in for it
I'm not sure if it's turbo lag. I think its input lag from the accelerator pedal. Because of drive by wire. My wifes Kia Soul does this. Both pressing and lifting off the pedal, theres a delay in response.
It’s about time Kia changed that old logo made with Corel Draw. Although old school tubes are associated with audiophiles, the pixie tube on the infotainment does not work for me. The Stinger is a desirable Kia.
I have a mustang GT pp1 but I’m really liking this. Thoughts?
Do you want to go slower?
Love the rear of this the exhaust tips much better but everything else on the previous is better
2022 VW Golf R for 46k USD or 2022 Kia Stinger GT1 AWD for 46k USD?
Everyone says it but the new logo is so much better. Genesis G70 ftw?
TLX Type S vs Stinger GT Elite vs Audi S4??
That new TLX TypeS is a nice effort by Acura, but the StingerGT would destroy it
I'm currently driving a 2018 VW Golf R and have considered getting a Stinger. Do any Stinger owners take out the cargo cover and put their dogs back there? I have two medium sized dogs and always have my rear seats folded down in the Golf R. They normally lay down for most of the ride so the hatch area seems to be big enough. Please let me know if your doggos are happy in the Stinger, thanks in advance!
The new Kia branding feel fresh and futuristic! 👍
When Yuri drives first, it means Jakub didn't like the car lol
Lmao
I just picked up a ‘17 Sportage and although not in the same ballpark what attracted to me it besides the styling is the simplicity and layout. Kia nails usability. While many of they other brands are eager to show off their trending cabins and looks which are cool on a test drive, they become annoying on a daily basis. Around my hvac it is finished in matte black which looks dull and down right boring but holds up way better than piano black all the other manufacturers throw around. Just an example.
Old GEN FTW! still wouldn't trade my lovely 2019 GT over the new ones... was never a fan of that lightbar in the back... the old gen tails were perfect and i think Kia tried their best to top it but kinda... sorta failed lol.. there are no earth-shattering features to justify trading in for the new ones imho.. i suggest keep your old gens and just have fun with it :) ... one true fact for sure, Stingers particularly the old gens are aging gracefully and will continue to turn heads. Great review guys!
is this car more enjoyable to drive than a v8, like an IS-F?
I like the new tail light that goes all the way across. Looks sharper and the light reflects off the spoiler when on. Very cool!

yep. smart mode is great too when you are on the highway, floor it and it auto switches to sport mode while you need it.
I have the 2019 Kia stinger GT2. Don't think there is enough to justify spending money for the upgrade. I do really like the new genesis G70, but I bought the Stringer because it looked good and because of the cargo capacity of the hatchback.
I like your intro music! 80's disco vibes!
There were two more changes you didn’t mention. They removed the sunglasses holder and the new cars have a frameless rear view mirror.
The sunglasses holder was almost a dealbreaker for me. Whoever decided to get rid of it should be FIRED. Sunglasses need a place to go, and the holder on the 21's is clutch af. LOVE it.
That intro music felt like a Rickroll. 😂
Great review as always.
I just picked up a 2019 GT Limited with under 2000km on it for an absolute steal and love it. Great car irrespective of the price. If you see a Thunder grey stinger go by you in Toronto with gloss black powder coated rims, that would be me :)
I have the '21 GT line, and I only want to switch to another car because of the transmission having that lag they mention here. It's not a big issue, but it's a bit annoying.
have you tried using sport mode with traction and stability turned off in manual mode?
I have a 2019 Stinger Gt and I like the updates. I think I will keep my car for now though. I love the new Kia Badge and infotainment screen.
I have the 2019 Kia stinger GT in the US. I am going to keep it it is not worth spending the extra money to update it. If I were to update it I would get the BMW Supra.
What's happened to the exhaust tips? Now it's just so obvious the pipes are separate from the surrounds? And it's still too quiet, if Jag can still make the F-Type as loud as it is despite the restrictions so can anyone else.
I'm not about the change from my 1st model. Unless they have better dipped beams, the old ones are horrendously bad.
The exhaust sounds so much better on the new version. The old one sounded like a regular old V6, this sounds much faster like it should.
The infotainment system is not going to age well.
Did the Canadian market get sequential turn indicators for the rear?
Still love my 2018 Stinger GT2. Have 45,000 miles now and still going strong. But the refresh isn’t enough to upgrade from it and the G70 doesn’t have the room I feel like in the trunk. I fit a 65 inch tv (it still in its box!) in the car with the seats down. They just need a wagon version and I’m sold 👍👍👍👍👍
185k here.
@@daytonasayswhat9333 wow that’s amazing any insight of what to look out for as far as maintenance? Maybe lessons learned owning it that long?
@@levicharles996 And most of those are pulling a motorcycle trailer. It’s just long, easy highway miles. No, no secrets, really. Just change the oil every 7,000 miles.
I just put another 3k on lol. 188k
@@levicharles996 Nope. Lol. I guess just don’t abuse it or drive the shit out of it. Honestly, I think most cars these days will make it that long if you do regular maintenance and just treat it like a car and not a stepchild.
I just had an accident and I had to replace that left front end suspension. I plan on keeping it another year and seeing if I can get 250knout of it.
I have a 2018 AWD Stinger GT. Love it. Actually prefer the old badge to the new one. Not enough in the refresh to make me even consider jumping up (wasn’t going to anyway). Did some laps at Watkins Glen in it and it was a blast.
Every once and a while get that “what car is that” question and people are surprised that it’s a Kia
Let be honest it got a super light refresh because at it peak it sold 16,000 in the US and 1,600 in Canada.
that's why most of the "refresh" was spent on adding a new engine option for the lower trims. IDK if TSP didn't know about that, or if they just don't get that option in Canada, but the new 2.5T engine spec would've been a much more useful review. I think they are just letting their inexperience in this field show by always getting the absolute top trim of every car they review instead of thinking about and trying to get the spec that most buyers will get it in. They already knew the top trim one was good and that it had little to no changes, so this would've been a great opportunity to tell people if the lower trim 2.5T is the deal that it looks like on paper.
I literally just bought one of these!
Looking at one too. Honestly what are your nitpicks?
I love this car..
Congrats, I’m -11 and it’s a potential first car
What's with everyone throwing the word "literally" around these days for no apparent reason... 🤷🏻♂️
@@deadlyapollo I only got it yesterday, but I have no negatives as of yet.
I have been waiting for this from this channel only 🙌
