FTL Captain I jumped up and down and actually screamed multiple times for around ten minutes straight when that happened to me, friend. jayden dodds Hello there friend :) Daniel Gollan Thanks for the thought, friend. It was nice of you, even though most days are just as bad as each other.
Likewise, I was wrecked when I heard about Terry Pratchett passing away. It wasn't the sole reason, merely that final drop in the already full bucket, but I cried that evening. It was heartbreaking news.
The first Terry Pratchett book that I ever read was likewise when I was pretty young, but it was a Tiffany Aching book that a librarian (who I will forever be indebted to) recommended me. That naturally lead me onto the Witches story arc, which is one of my personal favourites, and then the rest of Discworld. After he passed away, I immediately went to my bookshelf and picked out Equal Rites and read it through the night. I'm 18 now, and I feel as though Terry Pratchett truly shaped me as a person with his literature from childhood to what I suppose is this symbolic age of adulthood. His playful approach to social issues such as feminism and religion provided such an insight for me into myself and my ideology. (I chuckled when you were talking about defying expectations as it reminded me of Granny's "Where does it say women can't be wizards?" - continue being a wizard Kim!!) As is commonly said, he will continue to live on through the profound impact his writing has had on so many people. None the less, I hope that he has crossed the desert and is now at peace. I thank him from the bottom of my heart for sharing his world with us.
I have a girl in some of my classes who has a similar kind of dyslexia as you do, so the teacher prints all her work onto cream coloured paper, since that's what works best for her. Anyway, nice video and great answers! Always a pleasure to see Ask Kim videos in my subs :)
In regards to large numbers, it's not amazingly common but maybe having things converted to standard form would help you? In short, the number is written as: (some number from 1-10) * 10^(number of digits-1). So 3 million = 3,000,000 = 3*10^6 Sometimes people replace the "*10^" with "e" or "exp" - so 3e6. It can make very large numbers a lot easier to read.
Yeah, fair enough. It's one of those things that it's difficult for me to understand, so I end up suggesting things that might not help in the slightest :p Personally, if I'm writing in standard notation I leave it to 3sf unless I've got a good reason not to, but I know many people don't round at all...
Your Terry Pratchett story is actually a lot like mine, and I must admit I haven't read too many of his books, I think i'm on my fifth or sixth, but I will surely strive to indulge myself in every one. I'm at the point in my life where I must begin to differentiate the good, the bad, and the important, because it will start to take a toll on my future, I am also left to ponder about many life-rendering decisions. But, submersing myself within these comical yet serious story-lines has lifted a lot of the pressure, and whenever I can, I will take refuge in these books, and I could only wish that I had met the man before that fateful day.
It makes me so happy to hear about your beliefs. I'm Native American myself, and my family is very much stepped in treating people with respect and treating yourself with respect.
I adored Terry Pratchett - I have a map of his that I got signed when I was really young and it has 'You are Here' written on it with mine and my brothers names on it. Have it on my bookshelf in pride of place. I also loved the Discworld games and those point and click adventures were the first big thing we did with my Dad when we were younger too. We'd sit with him and play the games while he helped us with the puzzles and stuff. Was amazing. Not only Discworld but also the 'Johnny and the...' series of books were huge in my younger years for me, especially since they were read by another favourite of mine, Tony Robinson. A fantastic man who influenced so much of so many peoples lives so it's great to hear he had the same effect on you.
I physically teared up when you started talking about Sir Terry Pratchett. His books were an essential part of my teen years - he was like the funniest wisest teacher I've ever read. I was truly sad when I heard he passed away and the ache is still there :"( The first book I read was The Colour of Magic, and my favourite Discworld series were the stories about the witches, like Granny Weatherwax and Tiffany Aching.
Thanks for not being ashamed of dyslexia. Your voice goes along way towards removing the social stigma of dyslexics being dumb. Sometimes I think we give ourselves (the dyslexic ones of us) more hurt by not realizing that being different is not bad, it's just who we are. And people should respect our differences, and we should respect ourselves. Just like you said, don't ever let anyone stop you from being you and living your dreams! Keep up the great youtubing! With love from the USA.
What about flying to Ireland? If you came to Dublin I would 1. Scream for like a full minute 2.go to meet you 3.hug you forever and ever and ever... Or at least until it gets awkward or something....
Irishman here. Why would she come to Ireland? Nothing happens here (of gaming interest anyway). I doubt ,unless we start hosting a huge gaming convention, that she will come here for any sort of UA-cam related reason. Also, I don't understand why everyone wants to meet their favourite youtubers... Isn't there a saying “don't meet your heroes"? And even if she did meet you, she wouldn't have time to converse with you properly, as loads of other people would be swarming around her as well
Thats crazy, my first Terry Pratchett novel was the light fantastic too. Amazing series that I found there. So great to hear about your memories of Terry Pratchett, wish that I had met him, a truly great writer, and I need to catch up on the rest of his books, I've really fallen behind.
i live the treat people how you wish to be treated and my favourite thing is if im wearing all black or "rebellious" wears and smiling at everyone especially old ladies because i feel like i am restoring their faith in the younger generations.
I miss Terry tremendously.... it feels so somber reading his novels with his death in my subconscious, even "Soul Music" which is one of his best comedies.
When Sir Terry died I cried for a long time, but not in a gross sobbing sort of way, more of an "I knew this day would come, but I'm still upset" kind of way. I never met the man, but a friend of my father randomly bumped into him at one point. I don't think she's ever read any of his books, but she remembered that I was really into the Discworld books, so she greeted him, and he kissed her on both cheeks and said, "That'll be a sixpence." She laughed and said, "It's the best sixpence I ever spent." Apparently she also became his bodyguard, "as he was getting a bit mobbed by the crowd and security was no where! I linked his left arm with mine and a local person from a group linked the other and we got him away form the mob :)" She told him about me and how I love his books, and had him sign "Snuff" for me. I was so surprised when I suddenly found a signed book in my mailbox, like holy shit! Oh, and you should totally go for learning the Nordic languages. Not only do you have Swedish and Danish, but also two different ways of writing Norwegian (one obviously more popular than the other, but don't believe what people say -- the less popular one is NOT "almost impossible to understand"). As for Finnish and Icelandic... just... good luck, mate, hahaha.
Tanks Kim for remembering a great man. I met him at Hogswatch night in Wincanton two years ago, and he insisted to speak to every newcomer for about ten minutes. A truly great man. I'm italian but i read Terry in english, It loses the 50%in the translation. You are doing a very good yob! Tank you again.
Completely perfect on the continuation of the discworld, wish I'd seen him as you had, I was sadly too young, a brilliant writer that I'm revisiting for the fourth of fifth time, glad we feel the same.
Kim if you are having trouble reading black wrightingg on white paper Try useing coulers You can get special overlays of any couler that you find that works for you ^^sorry for the spelling
Kim thank you so much for this wonderful video! Have to admit I broke down a bit in tears watching this :') You are a beautiful person inside and out. I wish you happiness in your life at all times and hope you will be able to reunite with your relatives soon! Love you, bye :)
My first Terry Pratchett book was The Colour of Magic, in 1983. I'm old. I never got to meet him, which is a rather depressing fact of life. Incidentally, there is apparently one more Tiffany Aching book to be released, so that's something to look forward to, sad though that day will be.
Your views on religion mirror mine almost perfectly! Also, question for next time: If you could be your genders equivalent (So, for you, female) of any Superhero or Super-villain, which superhero would it be and why? Personally, I would be Tony Stark (Iron Man) because he is really intelligent and can make just about anything with technology.
***** it's Afrikaans, it's never been dubbed as "African". Afrikaans is one of I think 27 unofficial languages in South Africa alone, and it is only a language in South Africa, so that's why it doesn't translate from Afrikaans>African
Breadpool Afrikaans is one of the 11 official languages in South Africa, and it's actually spoken in Namibia as well and I think Botswana, but don't quote me on that last one. But you are right, it is not the same as 'African', it's just called 'Afrikaans' in English because that's just it's name, which is admittedly confusing. Interestingly enough there are also some words we took from Bahasa Malay and Bahasa Indonesia. *End of Language Trivia*
Far more importantly, though, thank you for giving your two cents on religion. It was very interesting to hear. What's more, I pretty much agreed with everything you said, which is unusual when it comes to religious topics.
kim your hair colour is amazing. i am dyslexic and people have also told me oh you can't do that because of you are dyslexic so i pushed my self so hard it sometimes hart but after i did all that i proved them wrong. yea being dyslexic is hard but i love being dyslexic because i am not like everyone else i am different (divergent)
Your are my favourite youtuber I've got dyslexia too so I know your troubles I've had a hard time in school many because my school was shit finally got diagnosed with dyslexia when I was 11 been working hard ever since. Your the best youtuber in my opinion thanks for always making new vids whatch all of them 😃
Speaking upon the topic of conventions, Do you or any of the other Yogs know if you are going to Minecon this year (seeing as it is in the UK)? Or will it be announced nearer the date?
Hi Kim!!! I have recently subscribed to your channel a few months ago, but I was already watching your vids before then. Let me just say you're a fantastic youtuber, and I loved your playthrough of Alien Isolation. I hope you and Hannah are doing well together so another Fright Night series can be born. Question: Do you know of the Harry Potter series and what's your favorite book and why??
African and Indian don't exist. There are over 1250 languages on the continent of Africa (there are 53 countries there). There are quite a few languages in India too (around 30 I think?) but the most commonly spoken is Hindi.
I recently discovered that Mainland China is the most nonreligious country in a survey that polled 65 different countries. I was shocked at first because I know a lot of people there are still superstitious and spiritual. Then I realized that those two things can exist without being religious. I asked my parents about this over dinner just now and they said it's true that a lot of people couldn't care less about religions and a lot are atheists, but still remain superstitious. Apparently it's possibly the result from not so long ago when religions were completely banned in China.
18:34 I agree! His last few books had a lot of involvement from other people (including Riannah I think?) and it's heartbreakingly sad to read because the humour's gone
Kim, that is awesome hair. What I like about Kim is that she has the same attitude that one of my game friends had. I say had because for whatever reason, we lost touch over the years. It's always sad when you have to say goodbye to friends. Now on a happier note, I need to go watch more Ghost Stories. Such a funny anime. Maybe I'm just a child. Still like it so far.
HELP! I WAS WATCHING THIS UNTIL A TORNADO IS GONNA APPEAR HERE IN TEXAS. KIM, I'M PROBABLY GONNA DIE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO. April 24, 2015 18:486:48 Arlington, Texas.
In year six so I was about 10 or 11 I was told I have dyslexic tendencies words are hard for me I can't put what I'm thinking into paper writing is hard althought I'm okay with reading I still get words mixed p but I was fine with maths I got a B at gcse maths but I never got help because I only have tendencies so I'm now 18 and still Doing gcse English because I'm not getting help and I get so frustrated with myslef when writing and it doesn't help that I can't tell something why I'm writing I mix up words and stutter when I talk it's so annoying
If you were to visit Singapore, I would 1: Not stop following you 2: Take millions of selfies with you 3: Eat many food with you 4: Hug you, until you can't breathe anymore, which is when I should probably let you go 5: Take you around Singapore 6: Convince you to pack me in your suitcase so I can follow you and hug you everyday I know I'm weird, it's just that one been watching your videos since you first joined the Yogscast and I think you're amazing.
Watching animations are the best for learning languages! :D Legit learned all my Japanese from watching a crap ton of anime. Word order, figures of speech, vocabulary, and even writing (although kanji escapes me D; ).
I'm German, and the English I had to learn in school was extremely basic, barely enough to communicate. German schools are very strongly focused on theory; things like memorising tenses is regarded as more important than learning the meaning of words. What tought me proper English was the internet, as weird as that sounds, especially UA-cam.
Tolkiens's son wrote The Silmarillion after Tolkien's death so i think if there was something that needed finishing in Disk world maybe his daughter would best understand what to do. Although i do agree that in this case maybe its best left.
I was re-reading Snuff recently and I was a kind of depressing thought that we will most likely never see Young Sam grow up. I will admit it might be strange to think these things, but it was a world I grew fond of. There are still so many stories left on written (resisting the urge to reference Soul Music right now). As for whether or not I would be up for the idea of his daughter taking it over...well...I am of mixed emotions. Rhianna Pratchett once said in an interview that people do not want more Discworld novels, they want more Discworld novels written by Sir Pratchett. This is true. Much like George R.R. Martin writing more Lord of the Rings novels (I am sad to say my first thought to this was "There would be so many Hobbit wieners...), the flavor of the stories would change. However, to argue for the other side of the debate, and since Kim did mention The Fifth Elephant, let us not forget this quote... "This, milord, is my family's axe. We have owned it for almost nine hundred years, see. Of course, sometimes it needed a new blade. And sometimes it has required a new handle, new designs on the metalwork, a little refreshing of the ornamentation . . . but is this not the nine hundred-year-old axe of my family? And because it has changed gently over time, it is still a pretty good axe, y'know. Pretty good.” Discworld has changed with every story written. If Rhianna Pratchett was to want to add to that world, I would be interested to see what she would do to it. Yes, it would not be the same Discworld, but it would still be Discworld. Besides, I am too much of a sadist not to want another Rincewind adventure. Geez...I really over-wrote on this post... o_o;;
dutch isnt scandinavian. your thinking of danish :P and yeah its pretty complicated i guess i mean i'm half danish so i just know it fluently. but it is very different to english.
Pernille Paludan-Allen I ve been watching a danish TV show (Borgen) and it seems like so many of the expressions they use are taken out of english. I suppose a country with the population half the size of London comes under a lot of linguistic pressure. Even the French seem to be buckling under the pressure. I went on exchange there last year and half the teenagers in Paris were wearing Union Jacks on their clothes.
FreshlyBakedLePain lol i don't watch danish tv shows because while i'm both danish and english, i go to an english school so im better at english. i can barely read and write in danish, but i can speak fluently.
If looked more into Norwegain you would find that it's really similar to Swedish and Danish. I myself am from Denmark and we are able to understand swedish and norwegain just by learning danish
You know this is a good fanbase/community when there isn't a religion war going on in the comments after that question. Good on you people! (Kimsters?) :D
16:11 You started with the Light Fantastic? That's a little odd... given that it's a direct sequel to the Colour of Magic. I started the colour of magic when I was 7? 9? And I didn't really get into it v far. It's got a bunch of pseudo-science stuff about hubwards and widdershins and whatnot in the first few pages and it completely bored me to tears. A few years later I got back in and read and read and read them.
Hey Kim what's up been a fan for a long time... Anyways I noticed that you had a lot of books on your bookshelf and I know you already went over them but I was wondering if you had to live in either westeros, Hogwarts world, a long time ago in a galaxy far far away, tamriel from skyrim and all the other elder scrolls, future earth from star trek, or (my personal favorite) future earth from futurama ... P.S. if you like fantasy may I recommend the bestselling series rangers apprentice
I have a load of Terry Pratchett books but have never read any of them fully I have a hard time with most books because I lose interest and go on to other things. But hopefully one day I will read at least one. :p
Kim I am dyslexic to and I don't do Irish ( I am from Ireland ) and it annoys me so much when people think they have to translate for me ( I know they are trying to me but I understand )
Hey Kim, I've heard before that you have seasonal affective disorder (SAD), and was wondering if you have tried light exposure therapy? It has proven moderately helpful for some people. Just a thought
Like others have mentioned, I also thought it was pretty weird to put Dutch, Norwegian and Finnish in the same sentence and call it "those languages" when they are completely different and nothing alike. Dutch is a West Germanic language, Norwegian is Germanic and Finnish is Finnic/Baltic Finnic (correct me if I am wrong). So they can't be compared at all. :P Not trying to ridicule her or anything, 'cause I probably wouldn't know these things if I wasn't Norwegian myself, but it is kinda funny and strange. :)
Kim, a while ago Silent Hills tweeted and asked us if we wanted the new game to be first person or third person. Did you vote? If so, which one? And what do you should be in this new addition to a series that's gone to shit?
My horrendous day just became so much better and I might actually cry at how sudden that change was.
Lily Chambers I feel the same. I came home to a letter from the Yogscast :D
Lily Chambers hello again
Lily Chambers Hope Tomorrow is better for you then.

I AM SO MAD ABOUT KIM AND HER RELIGIOUS BELIEFS!
No, just kidding, that was an incredibly mature answer that is respectful to people of all religions.
Oh my god I love your hair so much Kim! It really suits you!
In my opinion, Discworld ended on the perfect book. There were many advancements to the future of the world, and it had very good closure.

2. I teared up a little when she was talking about Terry Pratchett.
Would you think of doing these as a podcast, like sips!!!
Canada!!! Mostly Montreal!!! Come to say hi.
Can't believe I've been to Bristol and haven't met u guys!
Speaking upon the topic of conventions, Do you or any of the other Yogs know if you are going to Minecon this year (seeing as it is in the UK)? Or will it be announced nearer the date?
Always love your talks Kim! Thanks!
Music can also help with learning a language. I picked quite a bit of German from music. (Rammstein, Eisbrecher, Megaherz, Knorkator, etc...)
Please come to Belfast Comic Con next year, we would love to have you here in Northern Ireland.
To help with my sister's dyslexia she puts see-through blue paper on top of normal paper because letters don't jump when the page looks blue.
i love kims new hair colour holy crap
From the age of 1-30 it's determination, but after 30 it's just stubbornness XD you got 9 more years Kim! Make us proud!
Wow this is the first I've seen your new hair, looks soo good, also whatever lipgloss you've got on
I cried when I found out Terry Pratchett died then I cried again when I found out they were releasing his final book
Kim, you are awesome and i aspire to be like you and keep up the good work
Your hair looks awesome! :)
African and Indian don't exist. There are over 1250 languages on the continent of Africa (there are 53 countries there). There are quite a few languages in India too (around 30 I think?) but the most commonly spoken is Hindi.
Arabic Spanish and English will get you pretty far in the African coast but the interior of Africa is whole other story
Ask Kim Question:
Because you play so many games have you ever thought of making your own game and if so what type game would you make?
I was distraught at the death of Terry Pratchett, because I never got to meet him! But you're right as usual - his legacy lives on...
Your hair is simply gorgeous!
HELP! I WAS WATCHING THIS UNTIL A TORNADO IS GONNA APPEAR HERE IN TEXAS. KIM, I'M PROBABLY GONNA DIE WATCHING YOUR VIDEO.
April 24, 2015 18:48 6:48
Arlington, Texas.
Thx for this video. It touched my heart!!
Hey Kim, do you know if any YOGs are going to London MCM?
Thanks!
Come to Cardiff Comic con! It's not far from Bristol at all, doesn't cost loads and it's an awesome event too. :D

Fun Fact: Rihanna Pratchett was on the development team for Beyond: Two Souls!
If you were to visit Singapore, I would
1: Not stop following you
2: Take millions of selfies with you
3: Eat many food with you
4: Hug you, until you can't breathe anymore, which is when I should probably let you go
5: Take you around Singapore
6: Convince you to pack me in your suitcase so I can follow you and hug you everyday
I know I'm weird, it's just that one been watching your videos since you first joined the Yogscast and I think you're amazing.
Probably 4
Hi Kim, Questions What Was your First:
Book To Read?
Video Game To Play?
Watching animations are the best for learning languages! :D Legit learned all my Japanese from watching a crap ton of anime. Word order, figures of speech, vocabulary, and even writing (although kanji escapes me D; ).
I'm German, and the English I had to learn in school was extremely basic, barely enough to communicate. German schools are very strongly focused on theory; things like memorising tenses is regarded as more important than learning the meaning of words.
What tought me proper English was the internet, as weird as that sounds, especially UA-cam.
RokuroCarisu Your English is really good and so is your punctuation! :D
That book was from a month before I was born! :3
Tolkiens's son wrote The Silmarillion after Tolkien's death so i think if there was something that needed finishing in Disk world maybe his daughter would best understand what to do. Although i do agree that in this case maybe its best left.
I was re-reading Snuff recently and I was a kind of depressing thought that we will most likely never see Young Sam grow up. I will admit it might be strange to think these things, but it was a world I grew fond of. There are still so many stories left on written (resisting the urge to reference Soul Music right now).
As for whether or not I would be up for the idea of his daughter taking it over...well...I am of mixed emotions. Rhianna Pratchett once said in an interview that people do not want more Discworld novels, they want more Discworld novels written by Sir Pratchett. This is true. Much like George R.R. Martin writing more Lord of the Rings novels (I am sad to say my first thought to this was "There would be so many Hobbit wieners...), the flavor of the stories would change.
However, to argue for the other side of the debate, and since Kim did mention The Fifth Elephant, let us not forget this quote...
"This, milord, is my family's axe. We have owned it for almost nine hundred years, see. Of course, sometimes it needed a new blade. And sometimes it has required a new handle, new designs on the metalwork, a little refreshing of the ornamentation . . . but is this not the nine hundred-year-old axe of my family? And because it has changed gently over time, it is still a pretty good axe, y'know. Pretty good.”
Discworld has changed with every story written. If Rhianna Pratchett was to want to add to that world, I would be interested to see what she would do to it. Yes, it would not be the same Discworld, but it would still be Discworld.
Besides, I am too much of a sadist not to want another Rincewind adventure.
Geez...I really over-wrote on this post... o_o;;
dutch isnt scandinavian. your thinking of danish :P and yeah its pretty complicated i guess i mean i'm half danish so i just know it fluently. but it is very different to english.
Mmm... danish... tasty
If looked more into Norwegain you would find that it's really similar to Swedish and Danish. I myself am from Denmark and we are able to understand swedish and norwegain just by learning danish
Like the hair style, suites you Kim.
Las Vegas' Comicon is today, wish you were here :)
You know this is a good fanbase/community when there isn't a religion war going on in the comments after that question. Good on you people! (Kimsters?) :D
Hopefully The YogsCast as a whole make it to EB WORLD AUSTRALIA sometime
I think I might go to comiccon in London this year!

You started with the Light Fantastic?
OMG KIM I LOVE YOUR HAIR!!!!!!!!!
I started with the light fantastic too!
In love with your hair kim
yay, Finnish! Toivottavasti tuut opiskelemaan suomea!😙
Come to Thailand ///
There were plans to film a watch series based in ank-morpork but separate from the books. I wonder if that will ever come fruition?
Cool hair Kim! I didn't know it was possible, but you're even prettier now
Loving the hair Kim ^_\\
And what do you should be in this new addition to a series that's gone to shit?
kim, if you were to be sucked into a video game, what would it be?
just concerned
ya know
as you are
