    My mom and dad had a stereo with VU meters, but it had a built in 8-track recorder. It was a Sound Design.

    My aunt's BF has a Fisher MC-3010 (from about 1975) and it has VU meters... pretty nice unit, it has a pair of Bose 201 lookalike speakers that came with it. It's a rather cool system too, and has a built-in 8-track player. The Qbos reminds me of a similar retro-looking system that resembled an old phonograph and looked almost exactly like this. Sanwin Watches and Electronics owns Qbos according to a quick Google search. In terms of cheap products, I have a Zenith Z213B A/M-F/M clock radio that looks exactly like a Bose Wave but it sounds nothing like a Wave (considering I own a Wave that is used in my bedroom), but it works for what it is.

    I have a couple Kim Wilde LP's. Good tunes. As for this, what is loosely called a stereo, I think that a possible mod that is probably not worth doing, would be to use one of those small amps like Maxxarcade uses and get some banana jacks or regular speaker terminals to mount on the back. I would take a Soundesign or an RCA of even a SHARP bookshelf system from the 90's over this any day :) I thought those were cheap... those are high quality compared to this.

    A quick search for QBOS turned up a patent/trademark site that let us know that the company is either out of business or does not use the logo mark anymore. I only found one consumer electronics product listed as currently for sale under the name QBOS; a bladeless fan/speaker/mic that hooks up to your PC or Mac with USB. I think you should do a video on that one.

      Well... I'm 60 now and I prefer to download music or buying a CD rather than a record for ANY turntable, no matter the price point or quality (usually dudious, as it has ever been).
      Vinyl is a thing of the past, an obsolete medium enhanced now because pure snobbery.

    I remember in the 1970s most (fairly decent) turntable stereo systems had VU meters. I'm sure that QBOS was probably pretty cheap, since most retro styled stereo systems included a CD player back in 2007.

    It's cool to see a modern stereo with VU meters... but it would be nice if they actually worked properly! The only cool thing about it is that it's styled like a 1970s era all-in-one. They didn't attempt to make it look like a stack of components which is nice at least.
    The cabinet was probably made with scraps lying around the shop to save them money, because they really cut every corner they could find.

  • @GeoNeilUK
    @GeoNeilUK 9 років тому +1

    So this unit has VU meters that just barely work.
    Also, I have the exact same record deck used here in a unit which is a USB powered seperate record deck, it outputs through the USB socket for connection to a PC and has an RCA stereo output for connection to an amp (Brand: Soundlogik, Model EE0514FSFOB, Date Code 110822) It was an excellent bargain even if it is low quality as I've seen similar units (probably with the same deck) for for a fair bit more than £8.
    It came with a CD that had, of course, an old version of Audacity on it and not much else.

    I like the styling of it. Makes me wonder if you could just repurpose the case and put higher end equipment inside of it. Bigger amplifier board, add external speaker ports, swap out the speakers and turntable. Rub off the QBOS name with acetone or something LOL

    • @Elfnetdesigns
      @Elfnetdesigns 9 років тому

      DvdXploitr I could drop a proper amplifier in it, and not that cheap 20 watt 12 volt shit either you see people buying on here. Those are pure garbage. I can easily drop a 100 watt per channel MOSFET amplifier board and heatsink in that case. Of course i would have to replace that small AC transformer with a proper type..Sure if your into making a cheap POS work a damn then yeah go for it.

    • @armanelgtron4533
      @armanelgtron4533 4 роки тому

      @@andygozzo72 Even if the turntable was done properly, I don't think the speakers could produce any kind of full-range sound. The lack of holes in the back of the speakers themselves don't help in that regard either.

      @ethan043 8 років тому

      Jeremie Also, once you get a stereo system set up, make sure you use an input on the receiver marked "Tape" or "Aux." because if you use the regular Phono input with that turntable the audio will be messed up. That doesn't happen on traditional turntables that don't have a built in preamp.
