@@JeanRodo is your tool bar collapsed? and you do not have to do it for when a device is connected. If it's on the main toolbar it will show up whether a device is connected or not.
This method still works , with an older version of the kindle application as shown in video , thanx for sharing 👌 but its pretty sad that we have to go through such hoops just to save the books we actually own .

Worked perfectly on windows 11 -> Thank you buddy. Sub One thing to add -> if you restart kindle, It will update the version on windows. SO keep the original .exe file and remove update (add / remove programs) and re-install the right version given in the link above.

Now I wanted to convert some other kindle books I just bought because it has worked so well. But now I can’t get the download working in the kindle application. I now spent hours trying to block the update or something but it didn’t work (I am a Mac user). Unfortunately, none of this is working for the current mac kindle app. Appreciate you trying but ive spent an entire day trying and this is no longer possible at least for people who dont have a kindle reader. I believe the new format may be azw8. Anyway looking forward to a workaround if you ever find one. Maybe getting a physical kindle device is the only way now.

I've followed all of your instructions, but I still can't remove DRM protection. I installed both plugins, but when I load the book onto calibre, it loads as a KFX-ZIP file, not KFX. What can I do to remove that?

I have several Kindles with all the books downloaded onto it. Do you suppose I could copy the entire Kindle documents folder to my PC and then drag all the azw files into Calibre?

The DeDRM won't install for me. It says it does not contain a top-level __init__.py file.. Edit: I've successfully installed the plug-ins. But it still does not work to remove the DRM
I downloaded the latest version of calibre version 7.21, installed the plugins DeDrm (10.0.9), KFX input (2.17.0), Obok DeDRM (10.0.9) I received an message in a pop up window that 'this book is locked by DRM. . . ". I removed the calibre 7.21 and installed calibre version 7.12 and I still received a the same pop up window message. I have been working on this all day. I also have a fire 7th generation model where I was able to successful download my kindle ebooks and put them in the calibre. I haven't had the success you had. Cannot convert, this book is locked by DRM. Also the link is not pointing to version 2.4.70904 Edit: Finally managed to do it by installing the beta version of the DeDRM. (Version 10.0.9)
I wish you could see exactly the links you clicked. There is no need to apply effects in this kind of video. As a tutorial I value more the clarity in the things that you need to take action rather than transitions and text effects

If it worked one day and not the next day with the same book, you have to make sure you are dragging the same file, because there are several in the folder and you may be dragging the wrong file.

I followed your previous video untill the end, but I had no serial number, so now I followed this one. I had to uninstall Kindle to get the right version. I have done that, but I get the response that my Kindle book is KFX. Is there another step I have to take in this particular situation?
If you have the right version of Kindle for PC app (double check please to make sure it didn't upgrade) and the downloaded file is KFX rather than AZW/AZW3, then it would not be possible to convert this book using the method from this video.
Today 2.11.2024 on WINDOWS 10 I was able to convert newly purchased book from Amazon using these steps. Be sure to use all the versions provided in the description or otherwise it won't work. I had to remove the previous deDRM plugin I had installed on my Calibre, because I was getting the file as KFX-ZIP, but once I downloaded the version provided in the description it worked.

Yeah i seem to be having the same problem here. When I click on the book/md file in calibre it comes up with "ERROR: no associated program. Windows will try to open XXX-unknown.md with calibre itself resulting in a duplicate in your calibre library. You should install some program capable of viewing this file format and tell Windows to use that program to open files of this type"
Hello. I tried this and when I tried to download my librarty using Kindle 1.4 and they wouldn't download. Message popped up saying 'This app is no longer supported" and that I need to install the newer version. Is there a work around for this?
it doesnt work for me, the plugins arent installing, after extracting the file im̀ down to something called standalone, there is no option to install anything... I also tried the thing kfx and it isn't working either. Maybe itś because I have linux? could that be an issue?
well November 3rd 2024 and the mac version of calibre 7.20.0 does not work. tried the download several times, different browsers & the alternate location one and all say the dmg can't be opened because of damaged image so can't even install it I'll have to wait and see if I can borrow a mates windows machine and try that (running windows on my mac slows it down to a crawl)
well this is not going to be fun. borrowed mates windows10 laptop (as a mac user I hate windows but...). calibre installed as did kindle from your links. downloaded the books and got the azw files. imported / converted them to kfx but seems converting them to pdf will take over 1 hour 15 minutes and counting to do just two. I have 62 books to convert.
This method has worked for years. Sadly, I now get the "This app is no longer supported" message and a prompt to upgrade my PC Kindle app. I have an old Fire Table, and that serial number does not work with the other method so that's the end of that work around.

I keep doing this but it doesnt show up on the tool bar. Edit: You also have to do this for the menu bar when device is connected.

Hi, I might be having the same problem. I am trying to load the unzipped DeDRM plugin into Calibre and when I do, nothing happens. Calibre doesn't respond with anything and the plugin hasn't loaded. Any ideas? Thanks for help!
Seems like Amazon forced the kindle app for pc and mac to update. Making this method no longer work for the moment

my issue is when I download books in Kindle for Mac, they don't show up in My Kindle Content, even though that is the folder they're set to go to, so I can't drop and drag into Calibre

The button "from FTX" doesn't show option. Whyyy ? I just remmoved all the books from Calibre and put a new one and now nothing ...
If it worked one day and not the next day with the same book, you have to make sure you are dragging the same file, because there are several in the folder and you may be dragging the wrong file.

I followed your previous video untill the end, but I had no serial number, so now I followed this one. I had to uninstall Kindle to get the right version. I have done that, but I get the response that my Kindle book is KFX. Is there another step I have to take in this particular situation?
If you have the right version of Kindle for PC app (double check please to make sure it didn't upgrade) and the downloaded file is KFX rather than AZW/AZW3, then it would not be possible to convert this book using the method from this video.
Today 2.11.2024 on WINDOWS 10 I was able to convert newly purchased book from Amazon using these steps. Be sure to use all the versions provided in the description or otherwise it won't work. I had to remove the previous deDRM plugin I had installed on my Calibre, because I was getting the file as KFX-ZIP, but once I downloaded the version provided in the description it worked.

I am able to convert most of my kindle books but some of them are stopping converting after 70%. when i look at job details it stops on this line "Path override failed for key base::DIR_APP_DICTIONARIES and path..." not sure what that means and cant seem to find a fix. have you seen this or have any ideas? thanks again for all the helpful content you make!
Hi, I've never had this error so can't really help. That being said, can you try the following step and let me know if the behavior is any different (make sure you're on the latest version of Calibre):
Step 1. Open Calibre, go to Preferences -> Interface -> Toolbars and Menus. Select 'The main toolbar'
Step 2. From 'Available Actions' find 'From KFX' option and move it with an arrow to 'Current Actions'. Apply changes. You should see 'From KFX' button in the Calibre menu.
Step 3. Restart Calibre.
Step 4. Within Calibre middle column of listed books, select the problematic books one at a time. Click the "From KFX" button, and select what format you want to convert them to and it should work.

Whenever am dragging and dropping the .azw file , in Calibre it's showing as MD format not as KFX..
Yeah i seem to be having the same problem here. When I click on the book/md file in calibre it comes up with "ERROR: no associated program. Windows will try to open XXX-unknown.md with calibre itself resulting in a duplicate in your calibre library. You should install some program capable of viewing this file format and tell Windows to use that program to open files of this type"
My Mac gave me an error that this version of Kindle for Mac is no longer compatible. Will this process work if the Kindle app is updated?
Hello. I tried this and when I tried to download my librarty using Kindle 1.4 and they wouldn't download. Message popped up saying 'This app is no longer supported" and that I need to install the newer version. Is there a work around for this?

it doesnt work for me, the plugins arent installing, after extracting the file im̀ down to something called standalone, there is no option to install anything... I also tried the thing kfx and it isn't working either. Maybe itś because I have linux? could that be an issue?
well November 3rd 2024 and the mac version of calibre 7.20.0 does not work. tried the download several times, different browsers & the alternate location one and all say the dmg can't be opened because of damaged image so can't even install it
I'll have to wait and see if I can borrow a mates windows machine and try that (running windows on my mac slows it down to a crawl)
well this is not going to be fun. borrowed mates windows10 laptop (as a mac user I hate windows but...). calibre installed as did kindle from your links. downloaded the books and got the azw files. imported / converted them to kfx but seems converting them to pdf will take over 1 hour 15 minutes and counting to do just two. I have 62 books to convert.
Sadly this method doesn't work for me. I have EPUB file format and I can't add it to Kindle - it says "Failed" when I try to upload it there.

This method has worked for years. Sadly, I now get the "This app is no longer supported" message and a prompt to upgrade my PC Kindle app. I have an old Fire Table, and that serial number does not work with the other method so that's the end of that work around.
