But I wanted to move it to one of my mills - which just happens to be... the same as yours! :O This will save me SO much re-inventing of the wheel. Oh, only thing I would do, is glue a sheet of thin felt (etc) under your Z bracket so it doesn't hit the scale.

Thanks for the detailed fitting instructions...........not all mills are the same as far as fitting position is concerned........I have a jig borer that is now a mill so fitting is a bit of a challenge in mounting position differences.
BTW.....I wholly applaud the fact that you dismantled the glass scale to cut the aluminium and lastly the glass scale.....that makes it super easy with the diamond cutter in the Dremel and is far more precise.......I cannot imagine how anyone could think of cutting through the scale with a bandsaw even though it worked for them.

No need to completely disassemble the scale to cut. Just take off one end cap and move reader to the other end. Shim the glass on both sides with wood or plastic at the cut location to keep the glass rigid. Cut with the band saw through aluminum, glass and wiper all at the same time. Just file the end square, clean up and retap for the end cap. Done!...I've done several this way.

Nice clean instalation, well done. I got the same set but on aliexpress and it cost me 174€ and posted from spain so i had no extra import/customs duties to pay. I always wondered about the glass scale and what it looked like as i have only seen it from the ends, and i git 1 scale slightly too long so i might shorten it now that i know how. I would like your opinion on your X axis autofeed, my machine is slightly bigger but not much and did not come with the autofeed so i'm trying to decide weather or not to buy the same one or build one. from the outside it looks the same as the one available for my machine and will fit directly. www.probois-machinoutils.com/en/mandrins-et-options-pour-perceuse-fraiseuse-metal/4091-automatic-feeding-for-milling-machine-holzmann-bf25vln.html
But you can get it gor about $300, it+s just a 90vdc motor with a reductor and knob for turn on or off the gear, but i got constantly turned on because you can easily move axis manualy also if it turned on.
Also i thinking to add another geared motor for the Y axis, if i work more i use drill to move Y axis, as you can see on 18:02

Hi, thanks for this wonderfull video, congratulations for your both perfect technical an scientific approach. I've got the same machine and wonder about :
    - due to it's drilling/milling design, did you find a real interest in use for the Z axis ?
    - In the case I would invest later in the third rule, is it possible to buy a 3axis display, but use only the X and Y rule ? Will the "2 dimensions" functions accept to work in this condition ?
    Thanks

Interesting video. Quite well explained but too much fast forward has lost me. I have a Sieg SX2LF and and the first problem is, I can't find a power feeder for this type of mini mill. Secondly, I have exact type of linear scales as shown here. and they are longer than the ordered lengths. I have two, one for X axis (ordered as 400 mm but came as 520 mm) and the other for Y axis (ordered a 250 mm but came as 360 mm), I have no choice but to shorten them to fit the milling table (X) and the Y movement. Your video about how to shorten the scales is excellent, particularly the removal and shortening of the glass strip. Hadn't it been fast forwarded I would have had a better idea on how to do it because, I believe, the shortening of the scales is quite a delicate operation, meaning, stuff it up and you're done. So, up to the installation of the scales to the machine, I mostly understood, but the ending part where it is programmed or tuned, I am somewhat lost. I purchased the DRO from Banggood, less the linear scales, in October and have had a lot of bang but not good, as I have been trying to understand why the scales are sold over sized. And this video does explain it all. As for the third scale (Z). I will do that later, as I have to decide where to install it beside the machine. Your machine is quite a beauty, however, at the end of the video it looked like the machine was working like a CNC, like auto milling the work. Do you have that on your Mill? Also, do you know where to get an auto feeder for my Sieg milling machine? Mine is smaller, but packs quite a punch, quiet too. Once again, thanks for the video, I feel confident and happy to try to shorten the scales now. Cheers mate.

But than absolutly go to cnc conversion, but need to replace threading rod add lubrication of rails... And mill lose his ability... I like this mill because it's manual, so i can align some edge in a few second, meanwhile i can't eaven start a pc... If i go for the cnc i will make new smaller mill. This one will alwas stay manual, because use them toomuch to convert them. But i seriously thinking to add auto support like on x axis also on y axis

Plus if you got just 1/4 turn deadband on the trapezic thread all the information from motor is lie ;-) than mill grab something loose some step and you don't know where you are anymore.
      I'm for the DRO ;-)

Hmm strange, i got few years of experience with banggood and lot of orders, sometime some items, come demaged, not their fault, the'r just seller.... but always, really always we find good solution to solve the problem, basicly i send them a short video about non working stuff and they give me full refund or send me new item.
Did you try to send them videos or photo?
also you can chack if all the cables on socket and sensor are soldered good.
