I very much enjoyed watching this video, Stew. I loved the aerial video footage you included. The South Africa footage brought back memories. Back in 1982, I was on board the old 750' steamship, "Mormacwave" as an engineering cadet. We sailed out of New York City headed for Durban, South Africa. We rounded the Cape of Good Hope at night in a massive storm. We thought we might capsize a couple of times as the vessel rolled over and stuck before coming back up. We lost several containers from the deck, and break-bulk cargo below decks managed to break free and cause damage, puncturing a hole in the skin of the ship and taking on water. Thankfully, we made it to Durban the following day and remained in port for a couple of weeks getting repairs made to the ship. The remainder of the trip was more pleasant with stops in East London, Port Elizabeth, and Cape Town, before crossing over to several ports in Brazil. That voyage impressed upon me, the old saying: "There's no such thing as an Atheist in a lifeboat." Most of us found religion that night! The last evening I spent in South Africa was in a Cape Town bar drinking beer with a former Rhodesian Marine (I had served as a US Marine) swapping sea stories and other lies. I'm looking forward to your next video as you splash Luckyfish. Thanks again for producing your videos!
Congrats on the big 100! We have enjoyed EVERY one of them (many, multiple times). You have been a great inspiration in our T38 build, thank you for sharing all that you do.
Happy new year to your family from the US gulf coast. Something you may already be aware of but thought id pass on ... just learned that 'sailing zingaro' a 38' home built Crowther cat design came apart in the pacific. Starboard pontoon broke away in heavy seas. Fortunately they were able to save and make it to Hawaii but seems boat is beyond repair. I saw details about on their blog. Under 'blog' on menu they show pics and link to video. Reminds me of when Peter aboard "sailing into freedom" lost his cat couple years ago and how important and difference it makes when captain and crew remain calm and keeps their witts. I've been in both scenerios when crew panicked and also when they didn't and worked together and we all know the difference that can make. Good on them both for perseverance! Have a wonderful day and happy sailing mates.
Hi Shirley, sometime in March at this stage. Have an Oro to tour here as well and will publish both tours together. Sorry about that! You can find Caleb on Facebook and the Wharram Cat FB Group... cheers
Wishing you health, happiness and abundance for 2020 and beyond Like you there is a significant age difference between us. We have been together 22 years this year with our son celebrating his 18th birthday on Christmas Day, Shows us old timers are ok long term partners. Our partnership and friendship is still going very strong and yes we have had many challenges including moving continents and several relocations. This we are pleased to say have made our union stronger. Wishing you and your family every blessing. Also good to have some commentary from Xia she is also cool on the commentary. You are also good on the commentary so no negatives mate.
I have only just realised you were back to full regular publishing again (the importance of that notification bell!) after the birth. Good to have you as part of the every week life again. How has it been since the birth?
Hi, best wishes for the new year...thanks for the video's. Could you perhaps give an update about the whole 'should one put a windgenerator on top of a mast'-dilemma. I remember you had some initial problems with noise and mast vibration...Did you find a good solution for that? Is it worth doing it? Kind regards.
On the wind gen, we received many great suggestions to eliminate the hum but have not had a chance to implement. I'm confident that mounting on rubber feet would fix it as has been suggested many times. One viewer raised the issue of ligtning strike traveling right to the batteries and this is most certainly a risk. There seems doubt a fuseable link would be quick enough to save the bank. Perhaps a manual breaker would be a solution. We definetly benefit from more power with it located on top of the mast, a sizeable advantage. With time we will perfect this instal. Cheers, Stew
Hi Stuart and Maryse, re the syndication it is completed with 5 folks on shortlist when a share becomes available. Very exciting result. Our research suggested this was possible but it is another thing to see it... Big Cat is next.
