  • Video produced by Finn Weatherstone, aerial footage provided by myself.
A community and public campaign group to protect Portincaple from an aggressive major development known as ‘Drovers Landing’ on the shores of Loch Long, an Area of Panoramic Quality.
Set amidst ancient woodlands Portincaple is part of the Atlantic Rainforest and home to many protected or endangered species including the Scottish bluebell, otters, European long-eared bats, red squirrels, barn and tawny owls, greater crested newts, pine martens, curlews, oystercatchers, red deer - and is the only known UK location of an ancient sea squirt Styela Gelatinosa, recorded at the junction of Loch Long and Loch Goil,

Coming from a built up area on the south coast, where every spare field is being built on in the guise of 'affordable housing' I feel such a connection to your need to preserve and not 'build over'. I'm right behind you. What a beautiful place and I only hope that it will be preserved. My heart goes out to you.

A stunning and beautifully made film about a stunningly beautiful place which must be preserved as it is , for the good of all : the residents who live there and value it , the animals , birds and insects that live and breed in it , the trees and plants that shelter and protect it and mother earth herself who treasures it .

My parents had a small poultry farm at the vert end of the road, that struggled to make a living but I have some very fond childhood memories. I often return on my motorbike as it is indeed a wonderful little hamlet, the loch and surrounding area is guide stunning how can the local authority allow this to be damaged for profit. Everyone who lives there has my support and I truly hope your little piece of paradise is preserved for many years to come.

I used to go camping in Loch Long in the 70's, a beautiful place. I really hope you succeed in stopping this.

This beautiful place should be left as it is. My dad took me there last summer as its his favourite place in Scotland it was breathtakingly stunning. Seriously hope it doesn't happen. Would sign a petition. Good luck..

When will man understand that profit at the expense of destroying, disrupting ecosystem's and human lives is unjust. I'm from the United States and sadly have seen this first hand. Elected officials are there to serve their constituents. Who allowed this pristine land to be purchased I wonder. The footage brings a tear. Don't give up.

The problem is the Scottish Government has prioritised tourism and placed that at the heart of all Highland infrastructure. That is not the foundations on which the modern Highland economy should be built on.

I spent a large part of my life, in the 70's, 80's and 90's fishing at Portincaple in the Summer and all- nighters in the Winter. My best mate and I used to clean up the rocks of litter before fishing and take black bags of rubbish away every visit. We both worked in Conservation for a time and so had done a lot of this kind of thing, and still do.
I happened to be driving past the village recently (6th Sept 2020) and decided to take a nostalgic walk down to the shore to see the old place. Unfortunately that never happened as every path invariably led to a property with similar signs declaring No Entry, No Access to Shore, etc etc. I decided to try at the end of the road where we would sometimes go to access the shore and found the same set up..No Access to Shore, Private etc.
My question is this..can I, as a member of the public, still access the shore at Portincaple to enjoy the magnificent views and wildlife that are to be found there?
Whilst I would be strongly against any development like the one proposed, I would be equally against being excluded by a handful of residents.
Can anyone throw some light on this for me?
Thanks! And Good Luck with the campaign.

Thanks for the comment Liam, I’ll contact one of the residents and ask if they’d mind answering your question, I’ve never actually been down the hill to Portincaple.

@Christine Pratt Hi Christine Thank you so much for taking the time to reply with this information. I am aware that many of the locals would not take kindly to the sort of mess and littering that took place in the past, and it was bad, however it doesn't sit well with me that well meaning individuals like myself and others may be denied access.
I will try the path you suggested next time I'm down that way.

Maddness as where would the sewage go and can the current water supply cope.

I don’t see the issue this will bring jobs to area and bring more people to see
How beautiful the place is the houses look nice and will seem to be hidden away hardly anyone unless
    You’re local knows it’s there and it’s a shame
