As a spaniard, the game has done it's research. But who's going to notice that the yellow cylinder located in the towns is the classic spanish mailbox? Who's going to notice that the architecture of los platos references cordoba and it's muslim ancient buildings like La mezquita? Or that the poison forest represents a real spanish forest with painted trees located on the north side of the country? Most of them aren't obvious enough to be noticed without knowledge of the culture, so a lot of people think they're random places not connected at all to spain

But meowscarada it's based on the Iberian mascarada, a cultural celebration centered about masks with origins from all over the peninsula, which takes place on Lisboa, Portugal, so at least there's that
it's actually crazy, I want to say it was actually a bit before sword and shield came out, but I remember one day seeing an article saying that game freak had job listings for photographers and other research-type positions in spain, so seeing it come through (I'm American so I'm trusting your word on this) as an accurate representation in the game is really cool. I've always been a fan of how pokemon games constantly try to base regions off of real-world locations in some way, shape, or form
I did hear this one conversation on discord that might make you laugh, but the most powerful pokemon in Scarlet and Violet is a bug type, It's so powerful in fact it rivals the very notion of missingno from ruby/sapphire on the gameboy- crashing the game from continuous gameplay after roughly 6 and a half hours.
So, about shinies: I found a shiny Lechonk right after Nemona gave me the first Pokéballs, then a Skiddo outside Star Dark base, then a Scream Tail, and a Quaxly by breeding. After finishing the main story and getting the Shiny Charm I also got a Swablu and a Rookidee
I can't believe I am enjoying this loveable janky game as much as I am. My interest in this franchise burned out many game generations ago...or so I thought. But, somehow, this game was gifted to me and...it's hilarious, the bugs are great, the open world is great, and the gym leaders and "villains" are funny (Larry: The best human character in Pokémon?).

I ran into three shinies in thirty minutes in one area and then haven't run into any more after a solid day of playing the game. Although it doesn't help that 1) they turned the shiny chime off and 2) most shinies this gen are pretty terrible and hard to see. Also apparently the shiny chime was turned off because the Pokemon can spawn out-of-bounds, so you couldn't get to them even if you wanted to. Granted the very first shiny I ran into in this game was the dark doggo and it used Roar right as I got it to a point where I could capture it so...kinda salty about that. Also Herba Mystica = HM was mind blowing I didn't realize that. XD
Ms Dendra is my favorite teacher, and after she almost wrecked my shit Tulip became my favorite gym leader (that and she uses her psychic powers to make her clothes move so she looks more majestic and I love that for her). The fact that their close makes me love them more and i need to know all the lore there.
The Pokeballs in random rooms aren't exactly a bug, but something developers forgot. Simple items/shapes are used to indicate things like center of room/door in video games, but they're supposed to be turned invisible in the game. Considering many things in the game, it seems like they were seriously running out of time and forgot to turn several of these indicator items invisible. Also don't worry, dude. I haven't run into any shinies myself either and I feel like I must have ran past several of them bc my friends have found many shinies. XD
or maybe they werent running out of time and forgot they had put pokeballs in the center of every room because I mean hitman had an item that still had a placeholder text that they forgot to replace

That 'joke'/'Reference' to HM's only exists in english. In japanese Herba Mystica is called "秘伝スパイス" or Secret Spice. Hidden Machines in Japanese is "ひでんマシン" or Secret Machine. See how the secret is the same in both? It's not an appriviation pun because those don't translate well in japanese.

Yeah the backlash for these reminds me of Gen 5. I REALLY hope they don't backpedal on this open design... This is literally the FIRST pokemon game imo that beats out Dragon Quest Monsters Joker (another creature collector but from 2006) in terms of QoL.

I've found two shinies in my playthrough: a shiny Mareep and a shiny Staraptor. Didn't use the Staraptor (might use it for competitive) but I carried that shiny Mareep with me all the way to the end.
Sure it would have given fans expectations, but Iono would have been a perfect way to introduce voice acting. They already had lines recorded by her, they could have thrown in her catch phrases at the very LEAST

Either way, would explain while Paldea doesn't really feel like Spain at all except for the most basic of references like the regional Tauros

Just getting by is. I think that’s actually why so many people got immediately attached to Larry: he speaks to those of us with adult lives/responsibilities/everyday trauma to contend with. He is the single most relateable character to many people. Real talk (and not directed at you specifically, just while I am on the train of thought anyway), it’s one of the reasons why the incessant toxicity online has gotten so tiresome for me… I have enough real crap to deal with, I just want to be able to, you know, enjoy my preferred media. The reference is still there in Spanish. They're called Especias Ocultas(Hidden Spices), and HMs are Máquina Oculta(Hidden Machine).

As I said, it has references, and by the way, if you play in spanish they multiply, since the people in charge of the localization added coloquialisms, regional dialects, and even referenced how there's another language on the north by making people on the ghost type city talk with phonemes from that language. You can even find an npc singin the spanish pokemon opening song

It's just review bombing, and as people are playing the game and giving it real ratings is going up. The other day, I checked it up and was a few points higher

Honestly though, overworked, exhausted and deliberately boring people exist everywhere, in all countries. lol It’s not just a Japanese thing, it’s frankly a fact of life for many people that living “against the grain” isn’t always actually the goal. Just getting by is.
I think that’s actually why so many people got immediately attached to Larry: he speaks to those of us with adult lives/responsibilities/everyday trauma to contend with. He is the single most relateable character to many people.
Real talk (and not directed at you specifically, just while I am on the train of thought anyway), it’s one of the reasons why the incessant toxicity online has gotten so tiresome for me… I have enough real crap to deal with, I just want to be able to, you know, enjoy my preferred media.
