    An objective 'nothing' could not possibly exist, because if it did, it wouldn't.

      nothing is the absence of anything, and in that way it can exist. If there was a box with nothing in it, then it would be fair to say that there was a nothing in the box. Now if you thought about that nothing then you'd be thinking of something. And that nothing would then become something from your perspective, but that doesn't mean that the nothing has actually become something, just that the nothing has now become something to you.

    I’m 22 years old. I remember when I was very young, like 5-6 years old, I would think of nothingness. As I was concentrating on the idea of nothingness, it would all boil down to would it be black or white? Then I would come to the conclusion it would be neither. My brain couldn’t compute the idea of that and I would always get this weird/amazing/disturbing rush.

Every possibility but no concrete existence. And then when you begin writing or drawing what you do is you put a limit on the infinity. You remove most of the possibilities and you're left with something, existence. This universe is exactly the same. I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently, specifically in regards to death. I find it impossible to comprehend what an eternity of nothing must feel like, because I cannot feel anything at all. It’s incredible to me that my only chance at experience is now, and then nothing forever. I won’t even be aware of that nothing. Never another thought. Never another opinion. What does no more consciousness feel like? Does it matter? I don’t know.
    I’m not religious, but I hope that at least one of them is correct. Whether there is some form of reincarnation or afterlife, an eternity of nothing is impossible for me to comprehend.

    • @basetempest7106
      @basetempest7106 4 роки тому +35

      We are a momentary blip in reality. Even if there isn't an afterlife, our consciousness will simply cease to be, fading back in with everything. We are Nothing experiencing Something for a short time before we return to Nothing. We were never meant to understand all of reality. Our brains are simply too small and primitive to comprehend such a thing. Even our best computers are nothing more then random sticks we found on the ground the other day. we are only 12000 years old in a corner of a 14 billion year old existence. We have no idea and thats the beauty of it.

    • @TonyTalksBack
      @TonyTalksBack 4 роки тому +11

      Base Tempest But what relevance is time without existence? How can anything be “momentary” without a consciousness to observe it being so? Why would our existence only be a short time? Far as I can tell, our existence might be the only time. I think we’re on the same page fundamentally, but I don’t see how we can say time exists in any real sense without an observer of it.

      It actually has a function. The air cushion is actually nitrogen gas. Chip manufacturers fill bags with this preservative gas to help keep chips fresh. If it were filled with regular air or just filled with more chips instead, the chips would likely turn soggy and spoil. Not only that but it also protects the chips from crumbling.

    If you've ever been put-under with anesthetic for surgery, you'll know what nothing feels like - there's no fear, no sadness, no thoughts. In the blink of an eye, you're waking up in a hospital bed - uncertain of how much time has passed.
    Ever since then, I imagine that is what it is like to be dead and I'm no longer afraid of death. Nothingness can be scary, but we've all been there before we were born and some of us who've had surgeries have been there briefly again - and I promise you, it isn't scary like your brain wants you to believe so cherish every day and don't fear the end. ❤

    _So, don't be afraid of nothing. I could say, "There's nothing in nothing to be afraid of." But people in our culture are terrified of nothing. They're terrified of death; they are uneasy about sleep, because they think it's a waste of time. They have a lurking fear in the back of their minds that the universe is eventually going to run down and end in nothing, and it will all be forgotten, buried and dead. But this is a completely unreasonable fear, because it is just precisely this nothing which is always the source of something._

    I experienced "The Nothing" in my 20's. I went to sleep and woke up from "Nothing". I had no form, just my sudden awareness of being. At the same moment, I also became aware of the darkness around me, like floating in empty space. Then time came rushing up on me, and that made me panic. I thought that I died and had been in hibernation for thousands of years, time seemed very confusing. Then there was a tunnel of light, kind of like described in a near death experience. As I reached the light at the end of the tunnel something weird happened that startled me, and I was thrown back, landing in my body, in my bed. When I woke up I was really confused about what the date was and what year I was in. Nothing changed my view of Everything. Nothing has no human words to describe.. I can only say what coming out of nothing felt like.

    Alan Watts made a huge mark on me too. He changed the way I think. Although I am not floating around 2 inches off the ground, I've had glimpses. Once I meditated, and that think he talked about, happened, were I was looking at the stars, and i actually at that moment REALIZED that, THATS ME. that i am the universe. I remember it clearly, I remember how I felt on one level, but in another, I completely lost it. I cant even remember how I felt. But I know it was enough to make me cry. And I don't cry.
    Thats why i call it a glimpse. If I had that realization 24/7, idk from how I reacted, I'd be much different than I am.
    Maybe that's all we can do,,.. as humans, maybe , if enough of our being is put into the search for truth, as far as the real reality. Then maybe we are allowed glimpses, from time to time.
    It's been way to long now for me. Its been hard to have any kind of spiritual experience at all. Idk why. I was so.......idk the words, just, I had like.. yearning for reality, truth,, and ... the universe allowed me small drips of it.. not enough to be able to even talk about. Because it was so fast, but powerful. Just drips, enough to sustain me until the next.
    But something happened, it's been maybe 2 years now.. and while I still have the belief, the.... understanding that there is someone more. I dont have the thing were is with me all day any more.
    If i meditate, I will often just fall asleep. I would look forward to meditation before, now maybe 1 time a month i do it. Like.. maybe when I'm done with this comment I will.
    If i get it back, .no when I do, im gonna make videos also. I had my own ideas too, but I'd be a fraud today, to talk about it like I want, because its not with me now.
    I feel like I was a better human then. Maybe its the chronic pain I have, anxiety, stress from my growing company, or feeling that I'm now a bad person and I don't deserve it. I don't kmow. But I want it back, because I know ill pock up from were i was .
    Anyway, no one read this im sure, but your influence, Alan watts, dont ever feel like you talk about him too much, or speak his words, you know you are doing the world a favor by spreading his voice.
    Thank you

      I feel like what you are trying to say leaves a lot of room for interpretation. I don’t think people living as if there isn’t an afterlife would be an inherently bad thing, like some are thinking. People don’t just make decisions and do things because they are going to be judged in the afterlife. I believe in an afterlife of some kind too, but before I make a decision to do something or not I don’t consider how I will be judged in the afterlife first. Which I imagine the majority of people don’t either. But I don’t feel an urgency to live my current life to the fullest because I feel my souls time is infinite. But if I knew this was all I had maybe I’d be more motivated to push myself beyond the social constructs and live a more fulfilling life......maybe, or maybe not.

    If you want to see something close to the "nothing" just close one eye.

      @@DZ477 yes but when you only close one eye you still see out the other and your brain switches all perceptions through that one eye. You cannot see anything or conceive what your other eye is doing. Thanks to the og commenter for bringing this to my attention. It's actually a very odd experience once you realize it.

    I have always thought of nothingness akin to being put under anesthesia. It’s like you no longer exist anymore, not living, not dead. I find it very disturbing. I am terrified when I have surgery.

    Right now I’m something but I’ve always known I’m fundamentally nothing. I’m fumbling around this universe, following a small beam of light that I will go deeper into. Once I enter the light, I go back to nothing.

    This video resonates deeply with me, I have the word "nothing" in spanish tattooed as I've considered it the core to my life philosophy for years now. I'm happily surprised with canvas metaphor, that's what I always use when I try to explain what nothingness means to me!
