ABOUT UPROXX INDIE MIXTAPE:
Indie Mixtape is the go-to for all things indie music. We serve as a funnel to make sure that only the best music -- new and old -- is delivered directly to the people who care the most.
Indie is more than a music genre. It's a sensibility. The indie fan may be overlooked in our current cultural climate, but they're alive and well -- going to see live music, visiting art galleries, and prioritizing substance over facade. This is for you.
My favorite band and favorite song in high school. Class of ‘91. Ahead of their time. Still love it in 2024.
Song is 30 years old and sounds as fresh as ever. fuckin' class, man
Yup aged well
I agree With you!!
I totally agree!!!!!
Try Rocks Off from Stones so
when ur mum was 30 years old she was still fresh as ever
Such an important song to me. The snarl, the distortion, the twang, the drum machine. Still kills me.
Call your mom and tell her how important she is. You wouldn't be here otherwise. Peace
Like a cracked open sky.
@@justinw6914 who do you think turned me onto the Chain?
that's not a drum machine
@@chrisconklin873 they had a real drummer playing electronic drum kit
For their time one of the most innovative and underated bands.
They're not underrated.
@@adrianl7147 they’re not underrated, they’re super ultra mega underrated!
@@curly_wyn I meant that they are well respected in the industry. I think the original poster meant that they were not as popular as they should be.
@@adrianl7147 Yeah, and definitely more underrated to the general public
One of the greatest rock'n'roll songs of all time.
came here to say this
Forget Oasis this is the real deal Music raw to the core I am glad they always stayed in the alternative circuit only to be shared for the few that deserve it
Well said mate!!
@Magnetical999 Oasis is also great, no need to automatically diss them
Love Oasis, but the shoul've stayed in their early demos sound. This is pure rock N roll.
@@BRStormysea AUTOMATICally diss them! Hehe nice
And we deserve it
'I'm a stone-dead tripper, dying in a fantasy...' its all in the delivery 😎✨️
💯✨🕊
love that line too
The best band no one heard of.. 😜
Long live Scotland !
And we won today..... fingers crossed lol
Brian Harlan 🏴
East Kilbride's finest!
I heard of them! I saw them back in 87. And I met them by accident in 90. Great stuff! Shy lads....
Don't you mean the United Kingdom? In an ideal world, where money has less importance than it does, Scotland would separate from the United Kingdom, and Quebec would also separate from Canada. Smaller and less wealthier countries have been able to become independent of Russia, the largest nation in the world. how come it is a pipe dream, or somewhat impossible, for Scotland and Quebec to become independent nations?
I’ve been listening to Automatic a lot lately, and I must say the Reid brothers were really creative during this era. There were so many great songs on that album. The music, lyrics, and even some of Jim’s vocals are some of the best out of their whole discography. Then they went on to release honeys dead, which will always be my favorite. Long live the Mary chain
Was a fan in the late 80s, then put them on the back burner, inexplicably so. On the strength of tunes like this, they should have never faded from my view
Maybe, just maybe...the greatest rock song ever!!!!
Automatic stills sounds blisteringly good all these years later. The Reid boys never chased fame for fame's sake and like the Velvets they inspired and influenced so many artists and still do.
hmm I like that you used blisteringly.
strictlynorton couldn’t hav said it better!!!!!
That drum machine dates it
strictlynorton best album of JAMAC (automatic)
Well said. The best ones are always like that. Nice one SN. Take care. ;)
when I listen to this song , so do my neighbors!
This band is a masterclass in the lyrical “delivery” dept.
And always framing those lyrics with the most epic guitars.
“ I don’t mind about the state of my mind you know it’s good for nothing and it left you behind “ pure class!😎😎
I love these guys. I love this album. They should have over a billion hits on this site.
Been telling (or trying to) folks about them since at least ‘85/86. They will ALWAYS be relevant.
To me, one of the best band of the late 80s along with the pixies, way before nirvana.
+ sonic youth
JaMC
Dinosaur Jr.
Before nirvana broke through you mean. Nirvana were around in the late 80s, they just hadn't gone mainstream
Check out The Gun Club. Another of the greatest bands from the 80s, greatly underrated and undiscovered. Not al of theirs is on spotify but there's UA-cam also
What about love and rockets?🎶
1989. Graduated from High School. First year of University. This awesomely chaotic album is my soundtrack for the time.
Man loved this band in College when I started in ‘87!
Launched in 1989 I was 17 remember watching this clip on MTV, amazing, outstanding, superb - just who lived 80' 90' knows what I mean!!! Well I guess that's why I've always got the blues!!!
I freekin' love this. Never get sick of it, all these years later. This is what's lacking in the current musical landscape.
+Tar Crystalline try puttin' a luv R&R followed by a hate R&R
try A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS:...
There's little risk involved, at this time, perhaps, in making music, or else, musicians are no longer willing to take chances for fear of having their careers take a nose dive when their product doesn't sell. It seems that self-important Musicians are no longer willing to sabotage their careers for the sake of creativity. It seems like there was a lot more intelligence and experimentation happening in the song-writing then, than there is today, but everywhere it seems, in this vast popular culture now, there's nostalgia and it's become trendy since the past is often more interesting than the future. But many younger people would probably disagree with me.
"I'm a stone dead tripper, dying in a fantasy"
What a brilliant song.
Still the soundtrack of my life after all these years.
Dreams of escape
Keep me awake
Love JAMC! ❤️❤️
This still sounds amazing! It still rocks! God bless the JAMC!❤️
Best INDIE Band Ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Their best song!!! Hands down
80's & 90's Noise Pop geniuses ...
This is the right/better definition.... "Noise Pop (...geniuses)"
PERFECT !!
@@christianachmueller5699 "pop"?
@@umji3389 ok sir... sorry... ROCK'N'ROLL... absolutely, of course !!!!!!!!
God this is just simply amazing!❤️😎
Their lyrics - so humouros and profound...Stand for itself even without music. And vice versa. What a band!
I’m 47 and I got into them back in the roaring 90’s
I got into them in 1984
and they were the best then
Most underrated bands of all time. Even in the end they got disillusioned with the lack of interest. Such a shame. TOP BAND
This song packs so much nonchalance and bravado at the same time!
even their late 80s shit is badass. a rare feat.
Again, love their drums.
Great music from a very good automatic album.william reids guitar sound is unbelievable and I had the pleasure of hearing it live on three occasions especially Brixton academy around 1993 oh yeahhhhh.
Listening because of the reference to Jesus and Mary Chain in High Fidelity. I now love this band wow
Classic JAMC song, rough and raw
Thanks so much for this Masterpiece.. I never got to view it all until now. I was leaving for work one day back when this video was finishing on MTV in the late '80's. I've owned the audio for Decades. Amazing Video. I really cannot thank You enough. :)
Nothing like this kicking about now. We need more bands like this . East Kilbride legends
wont happen. 2 many alternative labels always churn some lite version of JMC every 5 years, and noone bites the apple.
try A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS:...
Thought they were from Greenock. 😭
I saw the J&MC in Chicago- one of the best bands I've seen.
Que banda tan maravillosa, los escuché en su momento y aún me siguen sonando de vanguardia
love Automatic
Killer Track! Love The Jesus And Mary Chain!
Yes you're right and echo and the bunnymen too👍👍👍👍😉😉😉😉
This song still Kicks Ass!!!
"Automatic" is a badass album ...these guys toured with NIN to promote this ...amazing shows
When I was mad at the world and didn't know what else to do, I'd drive dangerously fast and recklessly to this album in high school and scream at the top of my lungs and by the time I got home I was better
Coll
screaming automatic pain
Same, brother, same.
Those bass drum quadruplets are just sweet
Yes. So distinctive at the top - great entry and throughout.
Great track. Loved it when it came out. Love it now.
With the exception of Jane's Addiction, these guys are the most underrated band in history!
Automatic should be required listening before you can graduate from grade school.
Jane’s was SO underrated.
Not sure how an acclaimed and respected band is being called underrated. They're world renowned
perfection, electric, yet sending poetry.
This changed music, nobody knew it at the time and the sad thing is only a few do now, not too many true geniuses but this band is genius. You now great these guys are? Trent Reznor was performing pitiful dance music until heard this album.. FACT!!!
True. Demystifyed the drum machine for a lot of rock bands, took the stigma away. You can't see it as uncool if these guys used it.
Still one of my favorite bands...k.a.s
Incredible band
The gods of the dirty monster riffs. Automatic is amazing.
So good when they sing together
Freaking awesome!!!! Have a few of their albums, way ahead of their time 👍✌️👌
better than oasis but the world wasnt ready.....and will never be
Too right; Timing is everything.
Much, much better than oasis
Blueprint for Oasis. I think Alan McGee modelled Oasis after them.
Oasis? Wanted to be your friend. These guys were built to destroy.
Lol i love your name 😆
Got all their albums been telling friends these guys were one of the best bands of the 80s and 90s ,so good to see someone putting out some decent videos of them
damn it.. I'm drunk.. I'm high... but I think this is the best hing I heard in 20 years
Graziano Murru A high person here
Best thing you will hear period mate
It's more than 20 years old.
You are correct, fine sir. Carry on.
Cheers☺
this is timeless ~ they're just that great
Everytthing old will be new again!!
the coolest band ever
Gawd the hazy memories
TOTAL FIRE of a song.
this is real rock from New Wave, long life Scotland!
And to think NIN opened for them in Phoenix on this tour !
we went to see TJAMC and NIN opened for them in Nashville at the Cannery
***** I remember it was the 1st time I saw t shirts on sale for $20 at a show (I could not afford one, LOL). TJAMC had one w/ the pepsi logo that read "TJAMC choice of the lost generation".
It was hard to see TJAMC for all the smoke from the machines.
Was at the show in So. Cal, still have the recording. JAMC were very good, but bit drunk of course, and NIN kinda stole the night :)
and now it's the opposite. 2018, JAMC opening for NIN fall tour.
Timeless.
Takes me back to being a Junior in High School when this song was released in late 1989.
One of the Greatest bands ever, and very underrated. I still play The Automatic album to this day, when i'm feeling down, I just play all my Jesus & Mary Chain albums, as it reminds me of "Good" times. Saw them six times back in the day
First good ole rock n roll I’ve heard in a longgg time!!!!!!
Honestly I prefer their early stuff, more raw and with that cool noise/distortion, that reminds me something of the legendary Velvet Underground, and of the early Sonic Youth too.... but these "new" songs, above all from the Automatic album, rock as fuck !!
I RE discovered Alt rock during the silly lockdown. The only good thing to come out of that mess was rediscovering this song. It had been a long time👍🏼
Love Williams voice
All the memories!!!
Latin Quarter in Detroit, 1990, Automatic tour. First club show I ever went to, 15 years old. The Veldt opened.
Pure genius
what a f'in stormer of a tune!!
I had this on "VHS".
Wullies ace on the vocals in this song when jim kicks in its fucking awesome jamc classic back to the stand up drums and stunning burds ❤❤
Greatest fucking album
The Jesus and MChain...freaking rock. Violater79, I am with ya! Bought all their jam after "Head On". If I was stranded on an island....must have Stoned and Detroned.
Muscular, beautiful sonic chaos
Finally saw them this year 😍
Eletrizante video para uma das mais eletrizantes faixas do Automatic. Meu disco preferido do JAMC
Ô loco, melhor que o Psychocandy e o Darklands?
Always wanted Jim to have sung this, heh...)) Still one of my favorites
huge JAMC fan... since the mid 80's
Always got the blues man
I always loved these guys yes even in Adelaide 1985.
SHAKE SHAKE SHAKE
This is the song that got me into the JAMC. That was back in the late 80's and still listen to them constantly!!
Brilliant.
ONE OF THE MOST ROCKIN J&M CHAIN SONGS
fucking love this song!!
The jesus and mari chain é minha banda favorita
i love jamc....this a good song ,,,,,,,grandiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
Blues and Recreation Jesus!
I'm '68,"sniffing glue"x generation"!
Cool, thanks Martine!
