The section about rhe breakfast truck @ 46:43 hit a bit of a raw nerve with me, the description of homeless veterans and their families reminded me of what nearly befell me after I left the Royal Air Force in 03, I worked hard for the next 11 years but I couldn’t settle into a Jon where I wasn’t the boss, and to cut a long story short, my health declined by a huge margin that required major surgery on numerous occasions, then in 2014 my wife walked out, she was fed up nursing me back to a semblance of health and still held down a full time job, she met someone else (which explained a lot to me) and was gone, but I was lucky, the military charity organisation’s in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 caught me in their arms and helped me more than anyone would know, my Local Council made my case a priority as I am a veteran and I was re-housed in just two months, something that is unheard of usually, I was also lucky that a veteran Parachute Regiment friend and his wife put me up until I could get my flat (apartment) and move in, but if it wasn’t for all those I just mentioned I would have either been on the streets or DEAD, so as I hope you might understand homeless veterans, wherever they are have a place in my heart ❤️.
By the way, great book so far, looking forward to the rest. SUBSCRIBED 😀👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇺🇸🇺🇦
Two things I am curious about, 1) why are United States employment trades referred to as Military Occupational Specialty (MOS), in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 we refer to individuals employment as “their Trade” it just sounds better than Speciality?. and 2) when we leave the military we have a comprehensive package of skills courses we can take, any medical issues are either dealt with or referred to the NHS, our financial situation is checked to see how much money we get for our service, and lots more support before we finally become Veterans, what do the United States military receive?.

    • @TheRoadhammer379
      @TheRoadhammer379 10 місяців тому

MOS or military occupation specialties pertains ONLY to the United States military not civilians, and our military occupation is not a form of employment, it is our military skill. 0331 in the Marines is a machine gunner, 11 Bravo is combat infantry in the United States Army, a mechanic, a cook, a desk clerk, all have a number designation for the skill they perform. When we leave the military and join the civilian population, then we have job titles like welder, police officers, truck driver etc.

Thank you CG Cooper! Daniel Briggs is my favorite character. Four weeks at the VA (TX) with my combat vet, I always had a Briggs novel with me. I just found your audiobooks, so I'm now enjoying having them read to me! I appreciate Briggs... Quiet, Reserved, Struggling... But a good man hides inside. Apologies, it's been tough, just thank you, (the system is slow, complicated, confusing) Awesome people, but a nightmare process. Our men and women deserve better. (I'm tired, the VA finally admitted Nam responsibility as my purple heart uncle passed away, I believe my husband's path will mirror my uncle's). 😞 I hope I'm wrong. 🇺🇲

This one has made me so sad
When my big brother came back from Vietnam,, the Va. Got him on these pills
Then when they were helping him they jerked him off because they claimed they were psychologically addictive
    They experimented on out vets
They were giving him 400 a month.
I was a little kid and I got them out of the mail so I knew how many
    He was a combat vet
And was developing serious mental health issues.
    He was my friend
They messed him up and he never was able to recover
. Such a well written book
And it makes me want to choke the gizzard out of anyone that would hurt our warriors. No matter if they are BROKEN.
    TY.

@@Miss_Judy Yes, I’m similar to you in your chronological approach to a series of books. I feel, if read out of order, I’m missing out on deeper insights into relationships or God forbid, miss the point to an ‘inside joke’ or the like. Today, everyone is obsessed with high definition picture quality in movies and TV. It’s my opinion that a good author is gifted in the use of emotion to achieve this in the imagination of their readers. Reading a series out of order I’m probably not going to get the best from a story.
