Would you live here?! I am so stoked that we picked Queenstown as our first home in New Zealand - it is just absolutely stunning. BUT we'll see you next week, when we aim to get out of it again and out into nature.
Such a great place with great people. I did a working holiday in Queenstown back in 2019 before the world got crazy lol. I’ll never forget it. Glad you two get to experience this ! Cheers from North Carolina , USA
I really enjoyed your video. I've visited Queenstown in 1983 and it's so beautiful. The cost of living is high and housing is a big problem all over NZ without exception along with high rents but I guess you have found that out already. I regret not going back to visit the whole region. I was visiting Invercargill so was only there for the day sadly. Queenstown is more vibrant now. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your videos. I'm originally from Hawked Bay region where I lived for 50 odd years. Take care!
Glad to hear you guys are enjoying it! How do you find kiwis compared to Canadians ? Yea generally we say here, you can find a job way easier than accom Other cool stuff to do - Milford sound down near te anau - Routeburn walk track near Glenorchy - Dunstan cycle trail - Bannockburn (heaps of wineries) (we just go to the coffee boat) - Franz Joseph glacier (up west coast) - Dart river - jet boating - cardona downhill trikes in summer - mtb tracks in qtwn & wanaka - arrowtowns a quaint little town to see the old Chinese mining huts (central Otago was founded on gold mining 1860s) - earnslaw boat cruise - oxbow adventures (a bit of adrenaline!) - bike winery tour through gibbston is a good Sunday avo mish ✌️👌
They don't - it's an out-and-back trail but the way down felt much faster! To ride the gondola down it was $34 I believe? Didn't feel worth it to us that day!
Welcome to NZ, just subbed to your channel and binged on the recent NZ ones. Nice! Not sure why you chose one of the most expensive towns in NZ to base yourself? Have you been over to Te Anau yet? I'll keep an eye out for the Disco 🙂 (also probably a bit late now but Hospice and Op shops for all your camping/kitchen gear and other stuff too).
I’m planning a 4-5 week trip to see both island in November 2025. When do you advise on booking hotels and activities? If I book in advance it doesn’t offer me flexibility if weather changes the circumstances. Should I just pay when I do that activity? Or book online? Paying at the venue offers flexibility but don’t want to miss out if no open spots. For Franz Josep hello hike will there be a high chance that I have to reschedule? Do i need to book for the onseen pool in Nov? Your advice is greatly appreciated!
Goodness ! $60 to do the Gondola. So Expensive ! That's gone up heaps since I was last there. Wait to you get to the North Island. - Do the skyline in Rotorua for half that ! & Play too on the Luge or those Zip lines kms long - so much fun. Or Taupo - Hot Pools a third of what you paid there, - a/. De Bretts & b/. AC Pools spring to mind. Hamner Springs near Christchurch is a nice spot too - not sure pricing though. Queenstown, as nice as it is - is so over the top on prices on most Every Thing. Enjoy your stay, but do remember NZ Overall has most every thing overall - Every where, and certainly not at those prices. Wow ! Perhaps the greater population in the Nth Is keeps the prices down and more realistic. Got some pretty good Mountains Ranges up here too. Cheers from 🇳🇿 😎M.
hey I am thinking of moving there and working at a ski resort, where are the best places to search for housing? also going by myself do u think its pretty easy to make friends, skater/ snowboarder vibes. Lastly is it easy to get around without a car? thanks!
Yes New Zealand has super expensive cost of living because we don't have a lot of natural resources, we only have tourism and farming really which brings in overseas funds, whereas Australia has a huge amount of natural resources. And we have crime and other worldly problems, petrol prices are through the roof because oil is imported. But looking at other countries everyone seems to be having similar problems, housing etc, so actually probably still a pretty good place to live, just don't expect paradise and also get in the wrong place at wrong time can be dodgy to the health ! I know that because due to my job I see a lot of what goes on !
Queenstown is beautiful, but changing heaps, not good way , for lots of people unfortunately very expensive, rents are highest in NZ, sane with food and living costs! nice for visit but hard for living
Queenstown is so bloody experience it'sNOT funny, the council cannot supply clean drinking water BUT they can build a 6 million dollar cycle way .remove BUS parking in town .build hotel's without parking the hole place is a shit hole well done the stupid council
Unfortunately the cost of owning a house in NZ was thrown out the door with the bath water, because of the stupidity of those in parliament, who allowed, overseas people to be able to buy, without even being a NZder,or even living here, and just like the saying, after the horse has bolted, Politians closed the Doors to allowing non Kiwi's buying, ONLY Ausies are allowed, but hey, they're family anyway 😅Glad the New prime Minister's idea of allowing foreign buyer's,was throwing out by his, coalition partners,👍 there's so many empty house's in NZ became of the previous policy, where the overseas owner's have bought, and locked the house's up,
We have the exact same problem here in Perth, West Aussie. Wealthy overseas buyers from China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan etc have been snapping up property for some time purely for investment to sit on it for capital growth & leave it empty (holiday House) It has caused a severe housing shortage, severe rental shortage and the dream of young people buying their first house or apartment are out priced way beyound their ability. The same for the rental market as it also is in dire crisis due to lack of supply versus demand driving up the rental prices to levels never heard of before the pandemic hit. I have lived here all my life and what is going on here now is just insane especially with mass immigration going on here as well adding fuel to the fire. My suburb in Duncraig (northern suburbs close to the beach) is now overtaken by wealthy caucasian South Africans and UK immigrnats who have flocked to this area with larger size blocks the houses were built on back in the 80's. Bought my house in 1996 for $235k & its now worth $1.5m but would never sell as all the market has gone up. Toured all of NZ (both islands in hire motorhome) in the early 90's and absolutely loved the Sth island and especially Queenstown & Arrowtown. It was prestine and no doubt in the last 25yrs tourism has "heavily ramped" up and along with that the costs to visit have gone sky high as well

Welcome to NZ! I noticed your shirt! I'm a kiwi but my partner is from Los Cabos, Baja California Sur and I lived there for 4 years.
That’s awesome! We lived in Baja last winter in our van - mostly near El Pescadero :)
Thanks for taking the Tiki trail. 1st time I've seen that. Did they let you down for free? Last time I was there was 1994. Great memories!
They don't - it's an out-and-back trail but the way down felt much faster! To ride the gondola down it was $34 I believe? Didn't feel worth it to us that day!
I visited NZ last year for a month but didn't go to Queenstown. I booked it for my return next December! 😊

Will do!
