Just listened to the version by KimiJollyband and the woman's vocals show starkly the limitations of K.P's voice and vocal range....i advise Perry fans to take a listen & appreciate the difference.
@Rocketboy1313 She did it trying to sound like her which is much better than what most do when they do a cover. Covers shouldn't be hated. Bands that ONLY do covers should be to some degree.
are you guys really hating on her just because most people hate pop stars? honestly i'm not a katy perry fan, but Katy perry has a wonderful voice and i like this, i really fucking love this actually. BTW Auto tune doesn't do much for people. most of what it does is correct Notes that need to be moved a hair. it's either that or your Lil wayne and T-pain bullshit. Katy doesn't need it
I dont know why everyones complaining! She sounds fine. Im a big fan of kimbra too. But still be a little respectful to both artists. I bet half of yall cant even sing.
You guys just don't like it beacuse it's Katy Perry, if she wouldn't be famous everyone would write something like: Hey, she's cute and good at this song! All those ''Rockers'' who are crying about how shit music nowadays is, you should be happy that Katy has such a great taste in music and cover songs like this, so the 80's are still opened for us young people.
When I hear pop artists do covers like this, it is good to hear because you know they aren't making the music that they want to under their record deal. It's the Label that exploits and corrupts the talent and irritates some to the point of disgust with the musician, all the while capturing young listeners who are inexperienced and cling to trends. That's the problem with the mainstream, it tries to be trendy and dynamic when music is meant to be simple and raw.
thats crazy, i'm sitting here and i'm thinking in my head, "shit wasn't this song in Donny Darko???" ..*scrolls down and looks at the related videos*... aww well shit look at that. I thought i was crazy a second there man.
I am in no way a Katie Perry fan, but compared to many other covers I've heard of this song, it's not too bad - however, It can't compere to the original, of course..
this is an amazing cover. im sorry some of you cant see that. im a HUGE tff fan, and hate most covers. but she made this feel so emotional and raw. i love it.
The rating bar on this is more cruel than deserved. If you didn't know it was Katy Perry, would it still be this harsh? It's never going to compare to the original, but it's not bad.
There's an unfortunate tendency on UA-cam for people to see everything as black and white and with us or against us. I came here with an open mind (Don't like Katy Perry much as she seems pretty moronic, but like quite a lot of her music). I really liked her vocals on this version, but didn't particularly like the overall song as the guitar work wasn't to my liking, and it was mixed in to be a bit too loud in my opinion. I think I'm quite reasonably entitled to that open-minded opinion, and to express it. And those people who might despise Katy Perry who came here hoping and expecting to laugh at her version and down-vote are _just as entitled to express their opinion as her fans who came to enjoy and up-vote._ But voting is a funny thing. Firstly, people rate things according to different criteria. Some do it purely on whether they particularly liked or disliked the content. Others do it just out of personal loyalties (for or against). Some of us down-vote a video we might otherwise like if the title is misleading, wrong, or somehow bothersome. How do we rate a video whose contents are great but the quality of which is terrible? We all vote in different ways, and for different reasons, and we can't expect others to follow the same criteria we do. As I discussed earlier, the overpowering guitar work (that I didn't particularly like) _almost_ ruined the song for me. Her vocals, however, were solid. So I'd probably give it a like, except for that stupid picture. Dressed like some sort of edgelord throw-back to the 90s, holding a knife like she has never held one in her life, it's kinda of lame, right? Surely that warrants a few dislikes? :) UA-cam votes aren't always about what's deserved. But it's also not fair to judge the ratings bar as cruel, is it? At least not without knowing _why_ so many people disliked it.
I miss the nostalgic 80's rhythm that was lost with the acoustics, but I really like what she did with the vocals. I am not a Katy Perry fan because I don't really like pop, and though she has brought some elements of pop to this song, you can't deny it's a wonderful tribute to the original song. Thank goodness she has good taste.
I'm a huge fan of the Hoobastank cover of Head Over Heels (ua-cam.com/video/1aLrdNa41uM/v-deo.html). However, I agree. In most instances the original is still tops.
Andy Hyde I like the acoustic take on it! It takes a song that sounds like an underwater, operatic anthem and turns it into a front porch barefoot jam.
I'm not sure why people are ripping this version apart, I'm a big fan of tears for fears, and I thought this was a good effort, the sound quality of the recording was bad, but I enjoyed it
Die-hard fans of every major band like TFF, Queen, Genesis, or whatever, will usually rip covers like this apart as blasphemous. I'm a big fan of music and always enjoy to hear how different artists approach the same song.
But she is out of tune, she keeps switching scales, singing in the original version tune, then lower, then major, then minor, like wtf, I'm not a huge fan of tears for fears, actually i only know like 5 songs from them which i love, but still i haven't listened to them that much, but this cover is kinda messy, not that bad, but not good either. 🤷🏻♀️ Besides, Katy has a good voice but no technique, usually her live voice is messy, and she keeps switching scales and tonalities in songs, she should practice more, many of us singers can do better than this, So just because she is a celebrity we should all say she is good even when she is not doing it right and is out of tune or technique? 🤔
This is one of those songs that true TFF fans cringe when they see someone try to cover it. Katy made it her own, but kept the integrity of the original in tact. Well done. I like it.
I'm really unsure why people hate on this cover so much. It was fair: the quality not being its best and the really long intro. Besides that, her vocals weren't too bad either. Seriously people, calm down. This is an acceptable cover.
You hit the nail on the Head when you touch on how difficult this song is to cover. Brave attempt by Katie and to be honest it has grown on me. All great songs will always shine through.
People who don't understand music are those who most often dismiss or criticize covers because they fail do differentiate between arrangement and a song. You can close your eyes and hear this song in your head as a barber-shop quartet, or in jazz, or as a light orchestra. It is a beautiful song, difficult to ruin unless played wrong (TFT Good Night Song pun intended).
It's a great song. Not the best version. But what you said makes no sense. Has nothing to do with understanding music. It's either good or it's not. It's a matter of taste. I've been a musician my whole life. I'm assuming you're one of the ones who don't understand
NOW I respect PERRY. This is a difficult song to sing. This song, her version and especially the original, is a subtle and sophisticated sojourn down many pop song cliched alleys, but one winds up with truth rather than syrup on a pile of sugar. And an acoustic version is an audacious and appropriate act.
She sounds pretty alright in this. I don't really get all the hate with all these "born in the wrong generation" kids lmao. But, I won't lie, she kinda gets off key sometimes. The original's definitely better, but this version is good too. Especially the music arrangement. The music arrangement is something I really love from this.
guys, guys…relax. I'm a true tears for fears fan too, but the trash vibe is too much. She obviously likes and appreciates the song too. Who is anybody to down-grade this??? I'd honestly prefer the original, but this version is nice for variety….
The Tears for Fears version is a wonderful song. She has put her own slant on the song and kept it alive and that is a good thing. I actually don't mind this, I have listened to it more than once and still think it's OK.
This is an impressive cover of an artful song. I admire her version. My only exposure to her sonics was the Super Bowl halftime performance. Haters hate. See comment below.
@@bon6461 actually rock music suits her better, listen to her songs hummingbird heartbeat or Circle the drain, is not like hardcore rock or something, but is rock and her voice sounds better in those than in bubbly pop songs. 🖤👌🏻

This is back when her creativity came from her inner voice. I don't know what voice she listens to now but its gotta stop.
Katy should have practiced this song more extensively before performing it at all. In the first verse and chorus, she was struggling to hit those high notes.

You know, I feel really ashamed to say this but... I kinda like it. OF COURSE, it's nowhere near as great as Tears for Fears' arrangement, and Roland's innovative vocal take is superior to Katy's wimpy auto-tuned take. However, this acoustic cover seems to pay tribute to the original rather than do it harm. It's brilliant songwriting on Roland Orzabal's part. Even with acoustic guitars and a mediocre lead singer, the song is still great nonetheless.

I've gotta say, I was expecting much worse. Obviously it's not as good as Tears for Fears, but it really wasn't that bad. The arrangement stayed pretty true to the original song. I just wish they didn't put pitch-correction on Katy's vocal, but I guess she needs it.
I'm not a big fan of Katy Perry's voice, and Head Over Heels is my favorite song in the world, but I LOVE this cover. I think she nailed it
