17mp m4/3 old sensor, what a let down.
I read a lot of talk about the censor only. But how about the processor? Do we know if we at least get a new processor so the camera and hopefully auto focus will be snappier than what we already had in 2018?
Beauty is only skin deep. It's a D-Lux 7 internals - a 4 year old camera with a new outer package. No upgrade in IBIS, dust-proofing, sensor, LCD, or EVF.
Its a Panasonic LX100ii with the EVF changed from the 2.7M dot Panasonic field sequential unit to a 2.4M OLED EVF and a 1.84M dot LED panel instead of the 1.24M Panasonic panel. But it's a Leica at £1450 v my second hand LX100ii c £700-£800.
I have to say, I'm interested in this little camera. It looks like the D-Lux 8 is as a celebration of all the great things that came together to make the LX100 I & II/ Leica D-Lux 109 / D-Lux 7. They are a testament to the simplicity and pure joy of taking photos. Easy to carry, always with you, and very capable. The sensor, combined with the lens, tactility and controls made the LX100 a powerhouse.
Really loved the LX100, and the only 'downside' is the powered zoom, but it is still pretty responsive, I just prefer manual zoom. Also had an Fujifilm X20, fun little camera, but almost toylike in comparison to the LX100 and image quality not as good as the LX100 - but manual zoom! I would definitely enjoy the X30 even though it has the tiny sensor, its part of the charm. Great photos Tudor!
If it’s not weather-sealed it will be garbage since you won’t be able to easily clean the sensor.

Love the design of this camera. Definitely interested in getting one. Leica needs to make this same camera with the m43 lens mount. This camera with the 15mm 1.7... Wow!
You mentioned needing Capture 1 to get the best out of m43 raw files. Does it do a better job than Lightroom? Maybe a video comparing the two would be helpful/useful.
There is a new 25mpix sensor in the G9II, so there has been some progress, but without Panasonic implementing it to a LX100III, we won't see it in a Leica. Thats to much costs.
It would've been nice to get this sensor, as it would crop down to 20mpix.
But hey, this camera is beautiful and will ride the hype train.

interesting review, pity it hasn't been upgraded to the 25 megapixel sensor though. I have the new G9 II and it's an amazing camera ! I'm in love with micro 4/3 once again. ( I have been a Lumix user for the past 10 years).

No, it doesn't. The zoom lens will attract dust on the sensor in time unfortunately.
Hi Tudor, I have seen almost all your videos on your channel and I always feel at home here because we share the same taste for camera types etc. However I like to suggest something new for your content... I feel you can add a lot of value by talking about how you actually take your street photos. So many of your great photos made me wonder how your subjects reacted when you took the shot. So what is your approach? Do you make eye contact? Do you just snap and move on? Do you get angry reactions? Most people with not nearly as good pictures share their approach but I feel many of us could benefit from your input on that matter :) Just an idea

I'm really disappointed with Leica on this one. All they're doing is another iteration of the same LX100 II that they used for the D-Lux 7. Minor body changes and that's about it. I like the LX100 II, but it's just a fairly minor update of the original LX100. This makes the D-Lux 8 essentially a ten year old camera. Of course, until it's formally released, we won't know all the specs, but I'd say that Leica needs to do at least TWO things to make this worthwhile:
1) replace the LX100 II's sequential scan EVF with a non-flickering version.
2) add in some really excellent Leica color science to the firmware giving us some superb B&W images and color renderings.
Do those two things and I might actually buy one.
Really wondering why Leica can't seem to rise to the occasion and do something fresher, however. Maybe keep the general body design and optics but upgrade to an APS-C sensor with at least 24MP resolution. How about taking the CL body/sensor and put a zoom lens on it similar to the LX100 II's (yes, I know the image circle will be too small!) Sell it for under $2000. Now THAT would excite people.
There is a new non-flickering viewfinder. Not sure about number 2.

If you’re that excited about the old tech in the D-Lux 8, you’ll be blown away when I show you my D-Lux 7!! And… for a much lower price! Come on, tell the truth, this is just a rebrand costing more money. Leica failed big time. And by the way, when you say if you want XYZ go to the Q2, or Q3, it’s a matter of MONEY! It’s not that simple to just pick up a Leica Q3 without crying as you hand over the thousands of dollars.

Am avut și eu LX100II. Două. Le-am dat și înlocuit cu Canon G5XII.
Mi-am comandat de pe MPB un DLUX 7 varianta Bond 007 după anunțul de ieri. Am avut o ofertă misto dând o cameră la schimb.
Știu ca e snobism dar DLUX are mult mai OK aplicația de telefon. Si DLUX 7 varianta 007 arăt f similar cu DLUX 7. Are grip de cauciuc.
Referitor la butoane nu m-am plâns de LX100II. Și am mâini mari.

Pssst ... Don't tell anyone, but it can be had a lot cheaper as a lumix ... Just like most "leica" compacts, or I'd actually buy a Leica T (zero buttons) and use the change from the price of the Leica D-lux to buy an L mount zoom or prime.

Isn't the D-Lux 8 going to be more expensive than the S9 though? The S9 is the best value for money among the cameras you listed, cheers mate.
S9 will suffer from rolling shutter in photography - search this on Google: rolling shutter electronic shutter

Leica does not want to bite into the Q3. So it’s all policy not consumer oriented.
What a waste.. Lumix could have released an LX100 M3 and if they had finally given it a decent articulating screen it would've taken over the social media world with that one of a kind zoom lens. I hope Panasonic is listening and will finally pull the trigger on an M3. If they were smart they could turn it into the next 3 camera Mevo package for multi-cam shoots.
