Black Racer Snakes Are Lightning Fast But Totally Harmless!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 тра 2021
- One of the most commonly encountered species in the Southeastern U.S, black racers (Coluber constrictor) are extremely athletic diurnal snakes that are often pop up in unexpected places. However, this is a nonvenomous species and there is no reason to fear these shy reptiles!

Took them bites like a champ
I grabbed one that was under some tin and it was like 5+feet and it barley grazed my thumb and it was like a laceration,
They really don't have teeth, they use their bite as a punch pretty much, which is pretty effective on the size prey they typically go for, they bite enough force to disorient and then either pin prey to the ground or in shallow water to suffocate them
@@HaVoKisthebetterSuMmErSI grew up catching these things and taking tons of bites in the process, and yeah, they have lots of needle sharp, but short teeth that point backwards. They can carve you up pretty good if you pull away from them. If you just let them bite, they will needle you up a bit, but usually very little blood.
It’s a snake my damn mini greyhound bites harder. He got good aggression, if I give him a treat and go for a good boy pat on the head after it’s an instant bite. I can tank a bad dog bite I’ve worked at doggy daycares. My mini greyboi bit me one night on my hand and it was bleeding a little worse than it should, I looked closer and this little sweet angel boy knicked my artery. I’ve had a scar where he bit for like a year I still love him but I’d be lying if I said I’d cry when he’s gone. Bro is a demon
They might make you bleed a little bit but it don't hurt
Wow, your videos are extremely engaging, and really help in reducing my fear of snakes. You should have your own show! Also, why did the snake let go of your hand? Was it because you didn’t fight back? I thought that was fascinating.
Thanks so much for the kind words! It probably just let go because it decided the bite was not having the intended impact and I was still holding it haha
@@TheWildReportOfficial homie was just like “well shit what do I do now?”
One about that size just scared the crap outta me taking the trash out. It got 'caught' inside our masonry block fence in the backyard. I tried to 'help' it over the wall with a long pool pole and it did a very aggressive strike on the pole and took off like lightning trying to escape. I hope he finds his way back out of the fence cause im done.
You got my respect. I'll be watching your show on the Animal Channel soon.
Appreciate the support, don't know about the show but thanks for the kind words :)
Only way he would get a TV show is if he sold his soul and everyone knows how pathetic hollywood is lol
@@_Hanus_don’t be a sissy lol I used to catch wild snakes everyday as a kid in school at recess got bit quite a lot never ever had a serious problem worst that ever happened was getting musked by then lol
Have you ever had one of these snakes calm down enough to let it gently roam across your hands/arms? Kind of like how a small garden snake would just weave through your fingers and kind of hang out.
Yes, the individual I captured in the video that's coming out this Saturday was just like that!
@@TheWildReportOfficial It's pretty special when you get to do that with a racer!
I don’t know who bites more racers or water snakes haha. 🤣🤣almost guaranteed. I think imma give it to water snakes tho.
Haha it's too close for me to call
That’s true. Water snakes take the W. IMO bigger teeth poop more😂
I have caught both a Water Snake and a Black Racer and haven't been bit by either of them. I must be lucky.
Balls of steel my good man
No fangs!
Lol
Damn dawg u just taking those bites like a total g💪🏼💪🏼
It dosen’t hurt so
Racers are a ton of fun to work with, so intelligent and perceptive. Nice catch!
Thanks guys! They are definitely incredibly aware of their surroundings, more so than most of the other species I work with.
we just found one chilling in our house rent free
Lmao where do u live that’s funny and kinda scary
Atleast you don't gotta worry about rats
Black Racers look superb! Where I live, we only have Western Yellow-bellied Racers.
So when they bite and break the skin, how do you treat the wound? Have you ever had a bite get infected?
I treat it by stomping the snake to death.
UA-cam be making everyone professional snake handlers 😅
Seriously…I’ve been getting these lately 😤
This dude gave me big Steve Irwin vibes by taking those bites like a champ and just continuing to tell us facts through it
I got bitten by a black racer as a kid that barely broke my skin. 3 days later I had a horrid infection and a doc told me that if u get bit by any snake go to Dr cus they're quite infectious.
Wash soapy water, peroxide, or alcohol. Been bitten many times .treat like you would any wound. Its fine.
I was on my motorcycle riding years ago and saved one from being run over. It was huge almost 6 ft. I never saw a snake so gentle. I picked it up and put it on the grass across the rd and it never once tried to bite. The head was almost the size of my hand.
Awesome brother, keep the vids coming. Ur audience is and will continue to grow w this great content.
Thanks so much!
Yo balls must make a loud clanking sound whenever ya walk around lol that poor snake got yoinked tf up then after biting you several times kinda just sat there like, "are ya done using me as an educational tool? Thanks bruh" and skedaddled into the tall grass immediately ahaha
Nice to see Justin trudeau leaving politics behind him
They steal chicken eggs!
I love how you just nonchalantly let it chomp you. Awesome find by the way
@Linda B I'm sure it's similar to when my pythons occasionally bite me. But his reaction was basically like if puppies were licking him 🤣
@Linda B 2 balls. Theyre about 3 ft long. They only strike at me when I grab them out of the feeding tank after they just ate a rat. I always wash it to prevent an infection but I would worry what other germs a wild snake would be carrying
@Linda B That's awesome! My son loves going to nature presentations. Drives his mom nuts that we bring home every snake and frog and bug and toad he catches. In the summertime our living room is filled with tanks and jars
@Linda B for about 4 years we had a huge 80 gallon tank with 3 painted turtles in it. We would throw live frogs and bluegills in there and watch the carnage! The turtles were wild-caught so we chose to feed them natural style, and they sure are voracious little dinosaurs! They give zero F's about your feelings. Do you feed your snakes live? Nature really gives you an amazing show right there in your living room lol
Hahah! Little dude was chewing on ya. Love snakes with attitude, especially once they realize they arent getting hurt and calm down 😂
Yep, that always makes for a fun encounter!
I love black racer snakes. I used to keep one inside my house 😊
I saw one like that, but it appeared to start shaking its tail like a rattlesnake it never curled up.
After watching this video
Me:wow is that a racer snake ,let me grab it
Snake: hey man I’m a Black mamba
Me:thanks video guy 😢😢
Oof
Love this, just had a brief encounter with a beautiful Racer today that looked like it had recently shed its skin. Was super calm and almost as curious of me as I was of it.
I’ve accidentally convinced a fairly big black racer that he (she?) was cornered, prompting a very aggressive display that just made me feel sorry for the poor thing. I backed off just to reduce the beautiful snake’s obvious anxiety. It obviously didn’t want to be my friend.
Haha they definitely do not love to be handled most of the time, but like 1/10 seems chill with me
This is a natural beauty!!!!
Plot twist: its a black mamba 🤷🏾♂️
Now I kinda wanna hold a black racer just to pet it lolx
Haha expect to get bit then
@@TheWildReportOfficial If it won't kill me I'm good lolx
we have lots of racer snake here and we have one residing on our front yard under a tree
Nice! They are really fun to watch when they actually stay still.
It's not venomous, but can still bite like regular snake.
Does the bite hurt? Or just feel like a sharp papercut?
Not as bad as a good papercut haha, more like getting pricked by a briar bush!
Bite infections isn’t something you want
Let's not feature a close-up with a water moccasin. Their bites are slightly more noticeable. 😂
“It is nailing me a little bit so I’ll put um back in the grass”! (Proceeds to let the snake nail him) 😅😂
Compared to the Black Rat Snake, these are much more aggressive when first handled..
I mean he started chewing on those fingers, LOL. And you just stood there and kept talking like nothing was even happening, LMAO!
He just needed a chew toy
@@TheWildReportOfficial 🤣🤣🤣
I had one come out and sit next to my gill for about 20 minutes while grilling stakes in Florida, It was like he was waiting for his lol and as he was leaving I had to give it a quick rub because it was so beautiful. The blackest black I have ever seen. It wasn't into me touching it 🤣 he shot off. What a privilege to have spent time with it.
Wow, what a cool encounter!
Tell my child self that. We had a very long gravel driveway that was like a cool trail every day back-and-forth. I had to walk it getting off the bus and getting on the bus. I’m walking along beautiful day. Apparently he was right off the edge of the gravel, kind of like a spike strip getting thrown out, thankfully he struck too early and I managed to get my ass gone lol
Meanwhile, out of view, blood is pouring out of that finger.
I heard that Ben actually passed away from blood loss after filming this video
"totally harmless"
Also bites the crap out of him
We use to have them here in the NE NY ,but you would be hard pressed to find one now, we seen lots of them in the dump where we use to shoot rats.
My introduction to this species was accidentally hitting one :(
Oof that happens ;(
The Rattlesnake killer
What did the bites feel like? On a pain scale of 1 - 10?

That's yours and my second best friend?!!!we must protect our American native reptiles. This is a must!!!!!!✝️✝️
Awesome! I've caught a couple this year too!
Thanks Christopher, they are lots of fun to catch!
I've nearly been bit in the face by one it did get me twice
Yeah once they see your eyes they can be relentless, that's why I distracted this guy with my hand!
@@TheWildReportOfficial I had one that would have got me in my eye. But I wear glasses so he he only grazed my check. But my brother who is afraid of snakes came unglued...it was so funny.
Beautiful
When you visit Malawi, southeast African- don’t go grabbing any black snake; mistaking it for a rat snake cuz you’re used to black 5ft snakes LOL. Might just be a mamba 😂
how painful are the bites?
Not bad, like getting poked by a thorn.
Nice catch! Also we have the same running shoes 😎
Thanks man! And haha I love these shoes but need to snag a new pair soon
All they want is to be left alone, while holding it in his hands 😂😂 i admire its attempt at biting you.
Beautiful Snake...
I caught one years ago that spit up another Racer
Dang that's metal
Imagine if it's a black mamba....
Love your calm demeanor here! I would argue that “aggressive when handled” = defensive 👀
I hate snakes, but I will Def keep this species as a pet,no kiddin
I love your shirt.
Thanks Steven!
I saw one of those in downtown Oklahoma City in the rail yard. He was fast running from me.
nah, my guy entered God mode
Wow!!! Beautiful big animal, and your handling seems impressive... but I don't know much. When you open your hand it went to it like a target
i have 1 in my back yard like every other day and i want to catch it but i don’t want to get bite
Yeah if you don't want to get bit definitely don't pick it up haha
They get much bigger in Georgia.
At all costs, avoid snake bites.. Though they may not be venomous but some are vectors of deadly diseases
Not from a snake bite lol
Also usually snakes don’t have any diseases in their bite, maybe some bacteria. But it’s for the most part pretty clean in there
Brave AF
This made a UA-cam channel for my turtle but I'm thinking about making it on all animals what do you think?
Go for it! If you need any help or have questions about wildlife UA-cam just let me know.
Thanks I will
Beautiful snake. Like my favorite the king snake they'll bite with their little jaws
Are they endangered ?
Nope, they are actually pretty common in most areas!
you took that bite well
Snake Saliva gets in to you with that bite No thank you
Awww. Such a cute Nope Rope! 😵
How bad does it hurt getting bit.
beautiful snake
I was walking in my backyard last night I stepped on something and this snake jumps up and bites my hand. The snake was very quick and I didn’t even feel the bite. Luckily it was a black racer it scared me soo bad. 😂
Oh man that must have been a bit nerve wracking
Bro me my brother and my cousin was walking to my moms house through a trail and they told me run and before I started running I said “SNAKE”😂 and thought it was venomous
Yo he trying to bite you
Ok so do these guys and common water snakes have teeth I always thought that they had more sandpaper teeth kinda like a bass but I guess not bc he drew blood but I’ve never had a water snake bite me on my skin just a few times on my jeans but yeah they usually don’t even try to bite me but I would imagine a racer would bc I’ve had them chase my bass bait and my boat before.
Yes they have very small but sharp teeth
Love the shirt
wow I have never seen a racer that big
You are a total hunk!😍
How strong is their bite? You know by first hand experience! Lol
I have that same shirt...lol
Nope. I think I have one of those in the shed . My body felt numb when I saw it!! Any snake is bad for meeee!!
dont try to hold..black mamba and king cobra .they risking ur life
Your holding him by the nads
Why in hell you letting that snake bite you like that😮😮😮😮
Sometimes they just do that, it's a calculated risk of picking one up
No way, still it bite your hand.
I have one consistently coming into my backyard. I don’t care, but my wife’s not a fan since we have baby running around. Lol.
Leave that poor fella alone! He's gotta race to get to.
Haha indeed he does
What do you figure he weighs?
A pound or less!
They eat rodents and so even if they are nonvenomous they could carry some type of an infection
What does that feel like to be bitten?????
Like getting poked by tiny thorns, nothing serious
@@TheWildReportOfficial Wow, you’re brave! Thank you for showing and telling me! 😊
Nice block!!!
Mean as a snake.
These fellas don't have fangs?
Nope!
@@TheWildReportOfficial what about rat snakes and indigos?
I would run
Towards the snake and then catch it
@@TheWildReportOfficial no no I’m scared lmao 🤣 them things is gross lmao 🤣
All I want is to have a stick are a big rock when I see em.I just can’t help but to kill a snake..
Don't get rabies please careful these snakes eats so many different stuff.
The good news is snakes can't get rabies!
