How to Wash Motorcycle Jackets - Textile and Leather

- Having your leather jacket cleaned will cost $50 to $80 if you take to a dry cleaner. That's that's just to clean it. Textile jackets are maybe half that price. You don't have to baby your motorcycle jackets. These aren't flimsy fashion jackets. They're made to take abuse.
i was so worried to wash my leather jacket cuz it cost me too much. when i read your description i was blown away with the thought.. "LEATHER JACKET ARE MADE TO BE ABUSED"
that hits me. ill clean it tomorrow.
thanks my guy.. I ride a Yamaha Vstar 650. be safe riding!
So how did your leather jacket react to being washed, still good?
That's a GREAT technique, I am going to try it. Now I have to go and buy a basketball hoop, but ut's worth it. Thanks
I tried in a fooball/soccer goal, and works even better.
Damn... THANK YOU man!! Can NOT believe the amount of misinformation out there. Ive had 10 different Dry Cleaning places tell me 10 different things. I knew in the back of my mind I could just wash all this shit in the tub like laundry. Cheers to that!!
I went through the same thing. Wah? How much to clean it?? Then I once got drenched in a sudden rainstorm. I hung it up to dry and it didn't fall apart. Ding (light bulb). Dunked it in a bucket the next day.

Yeah.. I live in a country that is raining almost every week.
And my leather jacket is just fine...
But I always had this fear of washing my leather jacket with water...
Thanks man for making sense and taking this fear away from me!!
Really great video!!!
I would suggest leather conditioner after you wash it. Massage into the leather, worked perfectly!
All these years I've always been told that one can not wash your leather jacket in water. So grateful I stumbled across your video when searching for an easy and practical way to clean all those nasty odors and stains. Thanks a million!
Did you wash yours, how did it go?
Nice video, I also put a cap of fabric softener in with the water for leather jackets. They are more flexible when dry.
I sent this to my buddy. This is a GREAT video. Thank you for taking the time! Good lessons here. :O)
The only thing i would add is leather conditioner once dry as it will help it be more supple and help the leather to last longer (will be easier to wipe things off with a cloth for spot cleaning between washes too as well as help with water proofing depending on what product you use)
Dude, your commentary on this cracks me up. Good video! Awesome to know!
Thank you for the video, I assumed water was bad on leather jackets, and I wasn't trying to ruin my nice Icon Contra jacket trying to wash it myself. But you used water and a strong degreaser.
So I bought a Joe rocket ballistic textile jacket second hand and I noticed every time I take it off I have this white stuff all over my arms and on my shirt that I’m wearing
"will" take a day to dry"
You should know the power of Finnish Sauna! :D But thanks man, i bought a second hand two piece Alpine suit and needs a wash for sure! :D
You should get a storage bin like from Walmart or Costco for $10 or use even a small cleaned garbage can. Thanks to your video I know I can clean my leather motorcycle jacket. I will use fragrance free detergent with warm water. My question is why did you zip up the jacket to dry it? Does it trap moisture inside? I have a wood stove I plan on drying it out in direct sunlight.
Thank you so much for this video 👍🙏
What's the degreaser you are using? (sorry if you answered already, did not dig through all the comments) Great video and technique.
Always start with the least aggressive chemicals first .. also condition your leather after.
Is it safe to wash laminated goretex textile jackets this way? I concern especially for reflective parts.
What a cool little video! Jesus bless you man!
I wear mine in the shower and get someone to scrub me.
Have you experience getting mold inside of the jacket?
I like your white leather jacket. May I ask what brand, what model is that?
Would be great if you could recommend a reliable seller. I would love to buy one (from oversea, Apr.2024).
Thank you for the video and everything.
It's a brand called Scorpion. None of the cycle shops around here seems to sell Scorpion anymore. It's held up surprisingly well, much better than my Dianese leather that was 3x the price.
Don’t you use some moisturizer on your leather washing it?
I don't use any leather conditioner. I find it attracts dirt. If you do use conditioner, neatsfoot oil is the ingredient in leather conditioner that makes leather soft. If you buy by brand name, it's much more expensive.
Could you do one for leather motorcycle gloves?
It's the same. Your gloves will shrink a bit and become a little stiff initially, like OJ's glove. But once you put it on and squeeze your hands into a fist several times, it will stretch and flex.
Where can I find the leather jacket at looking maybe purchasing one
Very good video thank you!
LIKE
Great video!!
Awesome idea, thanks!
Thanks!
Why not use leather conditioner afterwards?
More work. I find it unnecessary. Plus, leather conditioner seems to attract dirt because it contains oil, usually neatsfoot oil. I don't know what a neat is, nor how they milk oil from its foot. Sounds suspicious.
Great video! Direct to the point! Thanks for sharing.
Is this real or just a prank? I just bought myself a $600 Alpinestars leather jacket and I want to keep it clean because I cant stand riding with dirty clothes/gear.
Great video
Do you wash boots and gloves the same way??
Gloves, yes. I haven't tried boots but I don't see why you can't. I was leather sneakers the same way and they do just as well.
@@redneckoriental Thanks. I did it and it looks brand new again lol
What degreaser do you use? Could I use La’s totally awesome?
I don't even know what brand it is. The bucket sat in a corner of my shop for years. All I know is there's a large proportion of sodium hydroxide (aka Lye) because if I use too much, my skin peels. Zep industrial purple degreaser is the closest I can come in liquid form. It's really strong as well. Undiluted, it will burn your skin. You're probably better off using laundry detergent and if it's not strong enough, go with Zep industrial purple, heavily diluted.
What brand of cleaner you are using?
Hello. I recommend laundry detergent. If it's not as strong as you'd like, add more. As for the powder, I can't read the label on the bucket anymore. It's degreaser we used to mop the shop floors with. I know it's mostly Sodium Hydroxide (aka Lye). Zep Industrial Purple degreaser is the closest I can compare in liquid form. You have to dilute a lot. Full strength, it will burn your skin. Lye is what the mob used to dissolve dead bodies.
👍👍👍
Do you have tips on how remove yellow stain on textile jackets, I can't use bleach on my dainese cause its mix colored same as yours....
I assume the stain is on the white fabric. I would dilute some bleach with water in a cup, maybe 1 part bleach, 40 parts water. Use a small paint brush and brush it onto the stain, avoiding the colored fabric. Let it sit 10 minutes. Now, rinse by filling another cup with just water. Wash the bleach off the paint brush. Use the paint brush to brush water onto the bleached area. Use a vacuum cleaner to suck up the rinse water from the fabric. It doesn't have to be a wet / dry vacuum since it's a small amount of water. I would rinse at least twice. If the stain is still there, repeat the bleaching again with a higher concentration, like 1 bleach to 20 water.
@@redneckoriental ok thanks i will give it a go and see what happens...

I will wash mine after riding around in filth 😂
😮😧😳🤯
