I'm not sure what you're asking about requirements. Garmin has told me the real reason for a pro account is that you can have one invoice for companies or teams that have more than one device. Great video! We just bought the Garmin Alpha 300i handheld and collars for our dogs. We live remotely on almost 80 acres and our dogs wander a lot, so we need the Garming Apha to help us keep our dogs from wandering off too far and knowing where they are, so we can go get them before wandinging off to far. I do not understand what plan we would need. What do they mean by tracking points? We have 7 dogs which will be connected to the 300i if that helps you help me with which plan would be best. Thank you so much!
Great question. First there is a lot of confusion about what Garmin calls tracking. 1. There's tracking with the inReach system where you can use MapShare and family and friends can track your personal location, which does cost money. 2. There's the dog tracking, up to 20 dogs, and theoretically up to 9 miles away, but most likely only a few miles where you can track your dogs all you want, day after day, and there is no cost associated with this. You don't need a subscription to track your dogs, but you would need a subscription to allow others to track you or if you want to use SOS or message people. If you don't need it for SOS or messaging, it would still be good to have an emergency form of communication and then you could chose the ENABLED plan for $7.99 per month (which is for SOS if you ever needed to use it) or the ESSENTIAL plan at $14.99 per month. The nice thing is you can change back and forth between subscriptions if you are going on a long outdoor adventure and need to message or have people track your location more, then you could switch back to the Enabled plan when you don't need to communicate. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
@outdooremergencytech Thank you so much! Yes, that helps a lot! After I asked you these questions, I saw another video of yours titled "Tracking is not tracking." lol I actually don't see the $7.99 plan as an option. I took the $29.99, but changed it to the $14.99. It says that the change will take effect next billing cycle. I thought that they would change it right away and reimburse the amount that was overpaid...
They charge you immediately then at the end of the billing cycle, they will prorate the unused amount back to you. The $7.99 or Enabled Plan shows up on the website under Manage Plans. You can then Change Plans then under CHANGE YOUR PLAN, you will see PLANS and ENABLED. You can also find it on the Messenger App when you change your plan there. I'm glad I could help. Don't hesitate to ask other questions if you have any. I'm glad you got my sense of humor on the Tracking is Not Tracking. Rick
@outdooremergencytech Thank you so much! Could you do a video explaining step by step how to use the training function? I understand how to change intensity and stuff, but how do I actually activate the correction? I couldn't get it to work. I'm very visual. I have problems prosessing written directions..
Had to update my phone in the last month and now have satellite messaging for free on my phone and actually just canceled my inreach sub yesterday (guessing that is how this video ended up hitting my feed.) Garmin is going to need to face the reality of their competitive market, they are no longer the only game in town... Sucks that I now have an Inreach that will be collecting dust unless I am heading onto a much more remote trek out west
You bring up a great point that all of the satellite communicator companies are going to have to adjust to. I think the new cell phone technology is going to be a game changer for a lot of people but there are still a lot of people that want the rugged, more reliable device when dealing with power issues, harsh conditions, etc. Thanks for leaving the comment. Rick
Absolutely blows my mind that they decide to increase the cost after T-Mobile will be allowing texts anywhere outside of cell.... And of course iPhones (and soon Pixels) satellite texts. It's like they're trying to grab as much money as possible before they lose a majority of their business.
I've been watching your videos (and I am a subscriber) ever since I bought my original Mini. Then I saw your review on the Mini II and decided I wanted that. I bought it. Then I decided it was too small and I wanted something with color monitor and more features that I would use for more geocaching. I bought a 66i. But now I've decided it's just too big. And I'm learned to use my phone for geocaching if I have a cell signal or can use a hotspot. So I'm thinking of going back to the Mini II. I primarily want it for three things: the SOS feature, the ability to text to a select group of people when I travel to let them know I'm okay, and the track back feature. In your experienced opinion, do you feel the Mini II is all I really need? (I don't do backcountry camping or hiking. My trails are generally in easy to follow areas. I do camp in my camper van and there are places without wi-fi and cell. That's why I originally bought the first InReach device. And I will say that I used my my 66i a lot during the recent Hurricane Helene. I was without electricity, wi-fi, cell service, water, etc. for 8 days. There were down trees across my drive and I couldn't get out. I was able to use the text feature to contact a friend who came over to help me clear a pathway. Your thoughts on the Mini II?
It's great to hear how you were able to use it after the hurricane. I think more people need to consider a satellite communicator for exactly situations like this. The Mini 2 is a great device and my favorite right behind the 67i, however I love using the Mini 2 because it is so small and when you sync it to your smartphone, you have the large screen for topo maps and navigation, plus it's much more convenient to type out messages. I agree that for you and the majority of people, the Mini 2 is the first satellite communicator I would look at, unless you really value an all-in-one device that doesn't need to be synced to a phone that will lose it's battery faster. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
@@outdooremergencytech Thanks Rick. I think I will go back to the Mini 2. That means I'll have to sell my current 66i and repurchase the Mini 2 which I owned at one time. That's the story of my life. Thanks again and keep making these helpful videos. Mark
They do not list the enabled plan on their website, is that something that they only offer by calling them or do you think they got rid of that already?
It does not show up when you sign up, but when you have a subscription, then it becomes an option. You cannot suspend your account anymore. They chose the Enabled option so people would always have the ability to contact SOS and pay as you go for text and tracking in emergencies. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
I can’t find any information on this but can you simply deactivate a subscription between trips? Sometimes my wife and I go remote leaving the kids with grandparents and it would be nice to be reachable in an emergency. But we don’t get out often enough to even justify $7 a month. Can i just turn the sub off or suspend it until the day comes that I need it again and without incurring another activate charge?
No. I talked with Garmin about this and we used to be able to suspend our accounts and then reactivate or un-suspend, but the new subscription plans don't have the suspend option. They only allow you to switch to the Enabled plan for $7.99. I wish I could help more but you should call Garmin and express your disappointment with this. Garmin tends to make changes to things when they get a lot of feedback about something. Let me know if you have any other questions. Rick
You do have the option to completely deactivate the plan between trips, but then you'll have to pay the $40 activation charge each time you reactivate it.
Well, there is that, but it's different from before when you could suspend and reactivate without the fee. Thank you for bringing that up as an option. Rick

It would be nice if Zoleo allowed you to purchase a plan that would work on the Inreach Mini 2.
You have to type out a unique message if you select message, but you can select check-in and it's a pre-set message that shows people exactly where you are, and then there are quick-text messages, up to 20 that you can set up ahead of time so you only select them instead of typing them out.
