After 6-8 years in public school, my three boys didn't want a school room! We do have a large guestroom, so I use that to store the majority of our homeschool supplies and books when they aren't in use, and I keep the ones currently being used in a cabinet in the kitchen, along with their art supplies and paper products. We either school in my husband's man-cave, in the breakfast nook, or in the great room off of the kitchen. It works for us! Your room looks great, and I'd love to have a dedicated school room someday, but with only 5 years of school to go, and a probable move or two in the near future, I'm just going to go with the flow 😉
Even though we have a homeschool room (a different, smaller one than the one in this video since we've moved), we tend to homeschool all over the house as well, and even outside! It's nice to have a change of scenery sometimes. I thought that we might transition out of a schoolroom when the kids are older, but they love it and are even in there on the weekends to do their little crafty projects since that's where I keep the supplies.
It’s beautiful. I will be modeling this same theme! Light and Bright! I have 3 boys also. 8,5,2 and this room looks so functional! And did I hear Gabriel? That too is my youngest sons name! You’re doing great! I enjoyed the video so much that I just had to subscribe! Thanks!
Beautiful school room! I love the picnic table in the middle - that's so practical. I'm a paint fanatic, so I love that you gave us the paint color. The one-on-one teaching spot is really smart. We have that setup in my actual home office, but that creates a lot of interruptions because the kiddos love to color-work while I work across from them. It's still fun, though. We love those workboxes as well - it's so easy to keep track of the curriculum. This was such a helpful video!! TFS!
Thank you! I got the little picnic table for when little friends came over and joined us in the schoolroom, but my then-2-year-old loved it so much that I keep it in there now for him to work/play. And I was able to wipe an abundance of dry-erase marker from it, too. :-| And you're right, providing a place for the kids to sit with me is also an invitation for interaction, which makes getting other things done difficult. Our next house will have a separate room for me as a home office/craft room/mommy-time room. Preferably in a separate space on the property, because sometimes mommy wants to be by herself. ;-)
Hi Leslie. I just happened upon your page while searching for homeschool room tours. Girl, I LOVE the spaciousness of your school room and how you have everything set up! Are you in your new home yet? And if so, have you done a new homeschool room tour? I look forward to seeing it.
Thank you so much! I loved the spaciousness, too! We are in our new house, and our current schoolroom is much smaller. Still trying to get used to it. I haven't done a new video yet as I'm still trying to get it set up to work well for us. But I do plan to do a new room tour video when that happens. Thanks for watching!
Our schoolroom is on the main floor and it doesn’t make it easier with a 2 year old! 1st year of structured homeschooling for us and it’s a challenge with him. I put a lock on the door to lock us in together because he was always trying to run out BUT you don’t want a 2 yr old out of sight especially when he loves to get into the fridge haha! Love the look of your school room and the space you have is awesome!! I’m tempted to take over our living room sometimes haha because I feel like I need more space!
Thanks! We're actually in our new house with a schoolroom on the main floor, and it's been a game-changer for us! Our new schoolroom is pretty small, but I made the dining room across the hall into a playroom, so that helps a lot with the youngest. With the little ones, I feel that it helps to break up the day into different types of work, maybe in different parts of the house, so that we don't spend hours on end in the schoolroom. Hope that helps.
Thanks! I try not to buy anything that will break my heart if the kids break it. My kids have proved the wisdom of that policy over and over again. So IKEA is perfect for us.
I hear ya on that one. Kids can be crazy hard on stuff...to the point of even destroying cement (altho that would be terribly uncomfy) furniture....I speak from first hand knowledge that my kids are horrible with chairs...we've been thru at least 15 or more in the last few years....OY VEY
Oh my goodness I love love luvvvvv your school room!!!!! Can you please come do this to my school room👏🏻👍🏼📚📥😂. Thanks for all the tips, we are remodeling our basement and I want to utilize a section for our school room and your room is giving me so many great ideas. Thanks tons!!!! ~Shannon
Love your video! We use workboxes as well. Where did you get your red /green indicators? What a GREAT idea! Also would you be willing to share your workbox labels- Thomas the train ones need to be retired :) Thanks for the tour!
Thank you so much! I got the workbox indicators on Amazon. This is the item I purchased - Check-it (amzn.to/2tyJrTD). Unfortunately, it looks like it's unavailable. A similar item is here (amzn.to/2tP8ZHd), although I'm unsure of dimensions. And thanks for suggesting that I share the workbox labels! I've added a page on my blog where you can download them - lesliemaddox.com/freeprintables/. I hope this helps!
Thank you! I assume you're referring to the camera? I used a Canon EOS 70D. I used the kit lens to film myself, and I think I used my Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens (the nifty-fifty) to film the room ( I can't remember, it's been a while, but I probably did since it allows a wider aperture). I also used a Diva Ring Light to film myself because I need all the help I can get. ;-)
I loved everything about this video as is my new favorite, it was straight to the point with tons of info!!!! My son is 3 years old and I really want him to learn Spanish. No one else in our home speaks any other language other than English any advice???
My kids speak only English, so I'm probably not the best person to give advice on the topic, but I think that immersion is the best way to go. I learned English by going to kindergarten and having my mother come with me for a while and translating, and then I was on my own. You may want to look to see if there's a Spanish immersion preschool in your area, or maybe try to set up playdates with kids that are Spanish speakers. Good luck!
+J Palms No, you were right, I did try different things to teach my kids some Spanish. None of it worked! LOL. At least I tried. That’s why I’m saying that immersion is the way to go.
I know this is an old video but I just found your page. Can you post a link to the white tables that have the filing drawers underneath? I need these desperately for my room! Please help!
This is the calendar I got: www.amazon.com/Teacher-Created-Resources-Calendar-Bulletin/dp/B000VE57US/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=sl1&tag=c013b-20&linkId=6094eac12740924f8c53ac9d5821ff41. I also got a variety of styles of calendar numbers at Lakeshore Learning and Mardel, just to keep it fun. We use velcro dots to put up the numbers. I was inspired by a video Erica at Confessions of a Homeschooler did about her calendar setup: www.confessionsofahomeschooler.com/blog/2015/02/calendar-bulletin-board-setup-use.html.
Got it on Amazon - www.amazon.com/Teacher-Created-Resources-TCR4188-Calendar/dp/B000VE57US/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=teacher+created+resources+calendar+polka&qid=1563151037&s=industrial&sr=1-2 And over the years I've bought different calendar numbers for some fun.

i like the room but one thing that got on my nerves was how you kept referring to blue as a masculine colour girls cant like unless theyre a tomboy. other than that its generally a good video and i would watch your channel again
I love the room, but I found it a little annoying when you described the wall colour as 'boyish' , as a girl I absolutely love blue and when people describe it as a boy colour it really gets on my nerve cos it's like my biggest pet peeve :p
This was a great tour.. so relaxed! Easy camera movement
+Ashley Skinner Thanks! I hope it was helpful.
I love your room! It's so bright and cheery!
Thanks! We just moved, so I'm working on the next one!

Thanks! Yep, the littlest is Gabriel, or Baby Gabe, as we sometimes call him. :-)
Leslie Maddox Sweet. We call our baby Gabe and big Gabe too! Depends on the day! Lol
Absolutely love your homeschool room.
Thanks!
Its true, color plays a major roll in attitudes. But you picked beautiful bright colors. The child size picnic table in the center is nice touch.
Thanks! My kids love that little table.

Look is bright and cheerful
beautiful school room!
Thank you!
thank you and loved how you explained everything.
Thanks! And thanks for watching!
I LOVE this room! So pretty and well organized! I have 3 boys as well and totally understand the need for a big, relaxing school room!
Thank you! Boys and their abundant energy...it's both a blessing and a curse, depending on the day or even the moment. ;-)

Awwww, that's so sweet! Thanks for the encouragement. I hope that I can be helpful to you.

very pretty! I love your desk arrangement! I may need to add on to mine, I have one of those tables from Ikea currently!
Thanks! One of the reasons I love those tables is that they're so easy to move around to find the perfect arrangement!
Ur space is beautiful u have done an amazing job I love it thank u for all of ur ideas and thank u for inviting me into ur school room😍
Awww, thanks! I need to film a new video of our current schoolroom. It's very different!

Thank you! And welcome!

Thanks! And I sure do!
Super nice tour. I love the white furniture too...which is what I have in our room too. Gotta love IKEA.

Just lovely! 💗
Thanks!
I love your setup. Is this the gamer on or another room?
+Nikki23tx This was the gameroom, so it had plenty of space.
Beautiful, that's about the size of my tiny house lol.
+B Shaw Oh gosh I know, it seems huge. But when my three active boys are in there, it feels tiny!
Nice video!
