hey keith. ive been playing trombone for about a year and half and i want to invest in my first mouthpeice. i have two one came with my trombone which is a bach 42 bo and it had a bach 6-1/2 a. i feel with this mouthpeice that it is too bright for me on the upper register and its too small. i struggle with the low register on it. i was thinking of getting a dennis wick 4 al as i have played that moutpeice on euphonium before and worked good. do you think this is a good idea? are there any other moutpeices you would recommend?

I actually have a Pickett 1.6D and 6L. I think the 1.6 is bigger than the biggest Bach bass mouthpiece, so they are on the bigger side. I like mine a lot. They’re very easy to play also in the sense that they’re very “reactive.” And the satin finish is nice, of course.
I’d like to hear more of your thoughts on these. (Especially the bass mpcs)

After hearing your playing on the mouthpiece and your critique of the three mouthpieces, I would not be surprised if you bought the 4D. If you haven't, I think you ought to buy the 4D. I have not heard you sound better. I agree with your assessment of these mouthpieces. I could hear everything you were saying in your performance. I am not sure what your personal, main trombone is, but it would be great to hear these on that instrument. I felt like the horn was not up to your standards on these excerpts. Great sound overall. The Picketts were definitely better than the Bach. Keep these videos going. Next time you do a playing test of a mouthpiece, use your main trombone, please. Great videos.
