Good news is, the books for this are already finished, so the directors don't have to come up with their own ending. I think they'll handle it great.
no more dick jokes?
The beginning of this is a true historical event that occurred in China, known as the "Cultural Revolution," which took place from 1966 to 1976. During that time, the Chinese government conducted a comprehensive purge in politics, culture, science, and class. They aimed for communism, materialism, and atheism, encouraging people to denounce each other. As a result, scholars, experts, doctors, and others with certain assets were indiscriminately accused of various nonexistent crimes, publicly humiliated, tortured, and their families persecuted to death, leading to the deaths of millions of people in China.
it becomes a reminder that people should not go to extremes.
@@EhtelFeighner If other forces are not thoroughly cleaned up, they will grow stronger and deepen the conflicts again, and the people will suffer again. Therefore, this movement is a movement to wipe out the bourgeoisie and the old feudal social forces. The people must unite and unite all ideas in order to jointly build a strong country instead of being divided. This is what must be done, and peaceful evolution is impossible.
Sadly, this may come to the US due the obsessive cancel culture of the left.
@@user-ib2pw2ld5s Bruh the ruling classes of China are billionaires and business elites, the children and grandchildren of the Cultural Revolution's orchestrators, it was never about achieving equality or parity lol
What many failed to understand is that its intention was to strengthen the cultural society but due to systemic failures of administration and supervision the whole thing ran out of control. People took huge liberties interpreting its purpose and use it as an opportunity/excuse to bully, oppress those who they have the slightest problem with. It became petty, personal and absurd into a tragic chaos. That's what happens when you mix idolising your leader and dispensing autonomy in accusation and prosecution without a foundation proper education and management.
"I don't know what you got to see to make you cut your own eyeballs out."
I have planter fasciitis in both my feet. Back when I worked retail, standing on essentially concrete floors for 8 plus hours a day, I would hallucinate cutting my own feet off with a hacksaw because the pain was so intense. Yes, full blown hallucinations with out the fun of psychedelics.
The end where Saul reading the numbers syncs up with her countown was just incredible, what a pilot 🔥
The universe blinking is awesome. I’m so invested rn
Y'all two really are a great combo, "that's how you become a Cylon" is hilarious 😂
The blinking night sky would be the only thing being talked about on every news and daytime show the next day everywhere in the world for weeks.
Syntell really came in with the intel this time. You're one of the first, if not the first reaction to this show I've seen! Huige fan of the novels here.
The novels come so highly reccomended. I'm pretty sure I'll grab the first book after this season is done.
@@Syntellthey wipl definitely be my next read. I wanted to watch the show with out any spoilers or preconceived knowledge of what it ahould be about. Loved the ahow, and will read the books for sure now.
you r right this was really happened. my grandpa was a teacher and his two rib bones was broken during that chaos.
the thing is government cannot do anything. even the policemen, the soldiers who tried to defend innocent people were also attacked.
Sertraline and Alprazolam. Sertraline is a type of antidepressant. Alprazolam is frequently prescribed to manage panic and anxiety disorders. 🤨
Oh yeah "struggle sessions" were absolutely real. And more brutal at times than what was shown.
To me the sell of this pilot episode was the reveal of the Chinese project's true purpose, and When the "Boss in charge" said "That's our enemy", which implies his awareness of WTF is up, looking at the big picture. I personally didn't mind the backstory because it sets the precedent of a "cultural shock" represented in the Chinese Revolution, the Scientific angle's perspective from East & West POV, and how they both try to meet up in the middle in the pursuit of discovery, but in this case is over a "mad project".
Don't forget she was using those Virtual Reality goggles. She saw something that shook her to her core. 🤨
I read the first book last month in anticipation of this series. Wild ideas! Incredibly imaginative scenarios I just haven't seen anywhere else. There were times I'd pause in the book and just think: "They're really doing that!" Excited for the show. You guys were really on top of it, with being the first reaction video out there! (It is a slow build in the book btw. But when I got halfway through, the twists kept on coming, and I could not put it down!)
Season 1 has first few chapters from Book 2 and first few chapters from Book 3. All the characters are from the books, just under different name for some of them and some ethnicity has been changed. But overall, the spirits of the characters are intact for most of them.
Books 2 and 3 are even more insane.
The book series is excellent and i recommend it to any sci--fi readers out there. Also, there is a Chinese made 3 Body Problem series that is on UA-cam that I enjoyed. I'm really hoping that Netflix nails this one.
Notnhing like a little friendly competition.
@Syntell lol, indeed, the Chinese series actually came out before the Netflix version, and is more faithful to the book. I'm actually almost done with it, and even though it's a long watch, it's worth it.
Oh, and the Chinese version is free on Peacock.
The chinese series is so good. I watched ep1 but will not continue so not to ruin my enjoyment for the former..
@@spartan120_3 the problem with the Chinese version is they don't show when her dad is being murdered
@@jooshozzono7249 Why do you persist in this question? The main body of the novel is the Three-Body World.
3:40 The Communists removed religion but just for their ideology to became another religion.
The cultural revolution and struggle sessions definitely went down. Ye Wenjie's dad at least died standing tall, he didn't condemn himself like Ned Stark.
Why do you persist in this question? The main body of the novel is the Three-Body World.
I always felt so bad that Ned had lied to save his life and they killed him anyway.
Binge this yes! Blew my away, genius & thought provoking!
It might be easy to think that this story condemns communism based on the China flashback scenes, but that would be a mistake. The story does not. I can't say more on the subject now though because there are things that haven't happened yet and I don't do spoilers.
see Wade, as much as people don't like him, is the exact type of person to sort us out.
I think someone telling me that the sky was going to do that and also telling me when would make it harder for me to dismiss it was a hoax or something being wrong with my eyes. If it just happened to me randomly, I'd probably blame it on stress or my eyes getting older.
Now that's a whole lot of stress 😂
In fact in the next episodes you will know if the sky was real or not
Glad you liked it, great first episode
It definitely has me curious.
I have seen 4 episodes and the 1st is definitely the slowest because they had to have the obligatory introduction of the characters scenes plus some exposition. The same way the early part of "Back to the Future" is kind of slow before the movie really gets going.@@Syntell
I love both your reactions! Thanks for checking out this series, I love the books!!!
Hope there is S2 for this series cause the next book is CRAAAAZY!
Buddhist don't have a "God". In the western sense. Buddah was a man who found the path to enlightenment. He's a Teacher, not a God.
And the "god", you'll hear Buddhists refer to and talk usually refer to dieties from their indegenous beliefs added into Buddhism.
fantastic that you are watching it! this is an epic in the making
I am all in. Thanks for posting. 😉
Okay, another show through your eyes.... I thought about the collective denial you folks were talking about. You two might find it interesting that showrunner Russell T. Davies explained that the reason "Doctor Who" keeps having aliens invade and the masses don't go crazy is because a) it's helpful for the show's dramatic tension and b) it's a commentary on collective denial.
The Cultural Revolution's portrayal is somewhat true to its onset. It's important to recognize that Beijing, being the capital of China, was the epicenter of these political events. Extreme occurrences in the capital do not necessarily reflect the situation throughout the country or at the same level of intensity. Similarly, when the Black Lives Matter movement occurred, not all of America experienced the same level of intensity.
An apologist, cool. The Cultural Revolution, it is estimated cost the lives of 500.000 to 2.000.000 Chinese, so please, do not lie.
what's your point? 2000k is a big number or small number in your mind?@@voiceover2191
They didn’t pay for a good “sound mixer” it was pretty evident. If you don’t want your speakers blown out, you have to rely on subtitles because they whisper the whole f’n movie! It’s a whisper or explosion no in between
😎👍❕️
Here's where the fun begins... 👽 👀
I Related the level of amaziment to the one i felt to matrix as well.
The medication. You probably recognize zoloft and xanax. Depression and anxiety relievers. Ive been on both at one point in my life unfortunately 🤷♀️

Unfortunately, this is already a restrained expression of true history, not to mention anything exaggerated. He is just an example of countless tortured people of that time there.
Smart people were often times defined as heretics. And they still are today.
@@Syntell yup, they are defined as crazy theorists just cause they defy modern science, modern science become the new inquisition.
@@Syntell you have no idea, when there is no law, there is no humanity,is technically hell
@@Syntell in fact guys he said he believed in the big bang theory which leaves the possibility of God the creator of the universe, that is why they kicked him and killed him because china at that time were communists, they Didn’t believe in god
@@Syntell True, they did it in Cambodia as well under Pol Pot
As always, the books are way more in-depth, but the show still is really, really good!
😉😉
Between this and Dune, we are getting some really good sci fi. I was not into Foundation, but it had some amazing effects. I did not stick with Mandalorian but they had that one scene with a RingWorld.
The "Foundation," Trilogy books are amazing! ❤
If you liked Dune, Rendezvous with Rama is coming. Same director.
@@VineVitumEt5 The tv series is crap, nice to look at crap, but still crap
Oooo, can't wait till you guys get to episode 5, no spoilers though.
Doctor WHO?
Tomorrow 🙌🏾🙌🏾

I’m sorry but I have to bring this up. Why my guy on the right sound more like Yachty than Yachty himself???
Just a forewarning, there are trolls that LOVE to write spoilers for this show.
I gave up on the show after 10 mins is it worth it ?
Episode 5 is reason enough to keep watching.
@@Syntell okay I will watch and come watch ur reactions :) I trust ur opinion ! Thank you
@@Syntell just finished ep 5; you were right ! Really strong! Thank you 🙏🏿
Hmmmm... hmmmm...
as "they" say, a person is smart, people are dumb.
My my man on the left kinda sound like lil yachty or am I trippin?
No one over 40 knows wtf yachty sounds like 😂
Interesting scene guy in the pub trying to chat to the ladies, you can see their eagerness and arrogance of putting him down just to show off their academic pedigree. I guess they had to modernize stupid oafish men versus genius women.
I don't understand the basic complaint about the show being too high brow? Trust me, they dumbed it down quite a bit to compromise towards an assumed dumb audience. If some of the concepts appear to be "too high brow", you can google it. If you're too lazy to do so, that's on you and not to blame the show for it and I also think people are underestimated.
The Chinese tv show did not dumb it down and I could still follow it and I'm not a physicist, not a scientiest in any way. Liu, the book author, breaks things down quite nicely for a non-scientist reader, but yeah, paying intention is required, but I guess today's audience, especially American ones, should have brought things down pre-chewed otherwise things get stuck in their throats.
Yeah Interstellar was also hard science but they were able to bring it down to a level that any casual viewer understood. this show was also dragging with some plot that's not developing the story. The composer was Ramin Djawadi, great composer but for some reason i did not feel his music here and D&D despite the last season of game of thrones they made one of the greatest complex TV Story of all time, i have so much respect for D&D but i did not really see their story telling complexity in this one.
That's a fair argument for this pilot.
Are you still willing to give it a few more episodes?
They actually had critics swear they wouldn't review the series until they watched all of the episodes of the first season and that was why.@@Syntell
bruh, this is already compressed enough to make it chopped, watch the 30 episodes of the Chinese version, it just explains everything better, is not just a day of the independence type of invasion, is a real and plausible dread to what could happen if we get detected by an alien civilization.
can u watch HALO season 2 ++++++++111111
Is the guy at the right a white dude? Hard to tell because of the cam quality
The actors are so boring apart from Jonathan Pryce. You see them you want to sleep.
This show was not my cup of tea. I didnt care for it.
First 5 mins of this show already shows the producer never give in much thots. The father who was killed spoke with a cantonese accent which is not possible, as he is a native from northern china in the book
It's an American show; that doesn't matter.
I bet you don't complain when Roman's are depicted with a british accent.
@@spamfilter32 that is your white man problem. not an asian problem
@meklavier4664 the problem is everywhere. But the takeaway from your reply is that you don't actually care that the accent is Cantonese for a person who is supposed to be from Beijing. Which makes you just a troll.
@@meklavier4664 Oh, racist as well
Such poor acting.
The flicker of cosmic radiation can only be observed through infrared light. This director has never read the original book
Of course the directors and writers read the original book. They have to make the science understandable to the general television audience.
maybe you can try the Chinese version, a good one@@hoos3014
The first 30mins were the best part of this silly adaptation. Still a bit off from the book. BUT, your silly commentary is silly because it would be beneficial to READ about history
Watched 2 episodes. Rubbish. Boring. Snail Pace Slow. Wooden Actors. Bye. Stupid plot and premise.
Troll gotta troll
@@spamfilter32 face it. It’s rubbish. Get a life.
@@williamnot8934 your projecting again.
This amount of stranger anger is really weird. Get help.
4:29 lol, this is just what happened in Cxmmxnist countries in the 60s. In reality, whether in Chxna or elsewhere, what happened was much more terrible. Movies just don't dare to depict it too extremely. In the movies, once the person being criticized dies, everything ends. But in reality, when the person being criticized dies, that's just the beginning of the climax. If you google "Cannibalism in the Cultural Revolution in Guangxi," you'll learn a lot more.
It's happened every where in the world. Look what happened to Galileo. The Scopes Monkey trial...
@@spamfilter32 Crackdowns on heresy were common, but their essence varied depending on different places and regimes. When comparing it to what went down in China during the 1960s, both the trial of Galileo centuries ago and the Scopes Monkey Trial in the US a hundred years ago seem like small potatoes.
