1 Mistake You Should Never Make With Your Dryer Vent When Building A House - Episode 106

- In this episode I give an update on my dryer vent and the mistake I made during construction. There should have been a lint cleanout installed upstream of the booster fan, but this detail was missed. This problem is further compounded by the fact that I have a 2x4 wall for the dryer vent. This was a huge mistake I didn't even know I made until it was too late. This video talks about the pain points of trying to solve this problem and what my next steps are.

Access door. Cover it but still access it when you need it.
I ripped the whole booster fan mess out and put the electric dryer vent into the garage since it was on the other side of the wall. I have a lint box on the garage side that I pull open and knock out into the trash can every other week.
if it's going to be in the wall i would use a metal box not cheap plastic , i would add something like 1 by 2s to those studs and make a door ,or use an old cab. door and if your going to cover the pipe DON'T USE that cheap flex ,use gal. sheet metal pipe . p.s . i just picked up a pro clean for my dryer BUT IT'S GOING TO BE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WALL ,i hope i helped you .
Thanks for the advise. I ended up pulling it all out and removing the booster fan.
Dryer specs out at like 120ft which is more than enough for the crazy vent I have. Practical testing confirms this. Clothes dry fine.
Thanks for watching.
And why the heck did you go to the roof? Such a bad idea
I have a similar issue I just put a break in the pipe from the dryer to the wall where it has a coupler for cleaning and I use pantyhose but this is ghetto and I see you want fancy
What did you end up with on this problem? Still happy with that specific cleanout from Amazon?
Most likely going to remove cleanout and booster fan and just have a straight pipe. According to my dryer manufacturer it will push enough piped feet with much room to spare.
Thanks for watching.
Honestly the recessed access panel box and build out a small framed area for this for cosmetics look would work.
I’m not trying to be funny but are you just worrying about appearance. If so I would purchase an old metal locker u know the kind we used in school. Push it against the wall to hide it Store paint tools whatever inside of it. Oh I wanted to ask you if the flex duct is up to code since it’s inside a wall. Not being smart just concerned for you and family
In the end, the end I pulled it and the booster fan out. The spec on the dryer allowed for the additional pipe feet and all works well.
I don’t think flex is related in the wall. I would repair/replace it with solid.
