    VETTEC has received an allocation of $45 million for FY 2024 which begins October 1, 2023. But act soon because the funding runs out quickly!
    This is one of the best VA programs out there and is available to vets with one day or more of unused GI Bill benefits.

      Damn, we need to apply for this October of this year for the next fiscal year?

    Great video! Would you recommend going this route to get a tech job or going the college route using GI Bill?

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  10 місяців тому +2

      Depends what you’re looking to do and on how much you like school haha. This is a faster path to a tech job but I can’t deny that having a college degree still opens more doors than not having one.

    I just talked to the VA and they said the Vet Tec program was in limbo because it was a pilot program. That said, I tried signing up for a full time online course and they said they aren't taking ANY vet tec students because of this and the VAs inability to get funding. So, what 45 Million are you talking about or is it gone?

      Good to know, thanks for sharing. Yeah, I'd heard they ran through the budget pretty quickly this year. Hopefully it comes back!
      Edit: so to answer your question, yes it sounds like it's gone. I made this video last fall so whatever the VA told you is the most up-to-date info. I've added that info to the video description to hopefully helps others

    Are we allowed to go through Vet Tech if we only need the skills and not the job search after??

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  2 місяці тому +1

      Unfortunately, VETTEC has been discontinued. But yes, when it was going on, there was no requirement that you had to search for jobs after.

      @@rosszeiger Yes, but I heard they are aiming to make it a "forever" thing.

    If the school near me does 100% remote learning only no in person. Im guessing the VA only pays you half the BAH bc of this ?

      This is something that has changed a few times over the COVID years. Here’s what’s on the VETTEC website right now:
      “If you attend training online only, we base your monthly housing allowance on the national average.
      We’ll pay you up to $1,054.50 (equal to half the national average for MHA). This is the maximum amount we’ll pay you each month.”

    If you do full time in person do they pay BAH in the zip code of the school or in the zip code you find to live in for school

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  7 місяців тому +2

      I believe it is the zip code of the school. When I did it, it was remote but they gave me BAH for the zip of the school

    For the Tech courses do I need some type of college degree to do the course/ land a job?

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  10 місяців тому +1

      I don’t think a college degree is required for any of the coding Bootcamps or individual schools. If it is, they’ll let you know on their website. As for landing a job, that too will depend on the company. Tech is sort of a meritocracy where they tend to not care about your credentials but just whether you’re a good coder or engineer.

    I am considering a change in career fields. Can you provide resources where I can determine whether or not tech would be a good fit for me?

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  10 місяців тому +1

      I don’t have any links or anything to share off hand but you could always try things out before committing to a VET TEC program. For example, spend a few hours learning Python before going through a coding bootcamp. See if it sparks interest and go from there. Beyond that, checking out “day in the life” videos here on UA-cam can be great for seeing if you’d like the lifestyle of a tech job

    What if you already used up your VA education benefits.

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  8 місяців тому +1

      Then you won't be able to qualify, unfortunately. You have to have at least one day of GI Bill eligibility remaining.

  • @chimqanzee3761
    @chimqanzee3761 10 місяців тому +2

    Does this replace my GI Bill or can I use it after? And is there a limit on how many courses I can take? Let’s say I finish a 12 week, would I be able to sign up again for another course?

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  10 місяців тому +1

      It does not replace the GI Bill, you can use it in addition to that. And in theory, you can use VETTEC every 18 months, so yes you’d be able to sign up again after completing it once. It’s not guaranteed, but I think it’s possible.

  • @dogblues4829

    I thought you had to use VA education benefits to pay is this true.

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  8 місяців тому +1

      You have to have one day of eligibility but this program doesn't use up your eligibility.

    I was just approved what is the next step i'd like to get in the cybersecurity field?

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  7 місяців тому

      Congrats on the approval! If you look at your COE, you will see a part that says “What You Must Do.” Basically, now that you have the COE letter, you take that to whichever cybersecurity program you want to enroll in and they’ll give you the next steps.

    Is it only full time?

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  10 місяців тому +1

      Yes, most of the programs are full-time meaning 20+ hours per week. That said, I know some schools offer night programs where you could do it in conjunction with a full time job.

    How do you apply to Vet tech

    • @rosszeiger
      @rosszeiger  8 місяців тому +1

      You can do it through the VA.gov site. You'll have to log in with your gov ID account then fill out a short form.
