- A Metropolitan police officer has been found guilty of belonging to a banned neo-Nazi terror group and possessing extremist material.
The 22-year-old is the first serving British police officer to be convicted of a terror offence.
Benjamin Hannam was a member of the far right extremist group, National Action, which was banned in 2016.
He lied about his past, when applying to join the force.

There's not exactly any records of who is a member of terrorist groups that can be checked during vetting! If you've been arrested or charged or you appear on the intelligence radar you'll get caught out, but if not you won't because there's no record to check. Look, at it this way; someone could beat up their partner every weekend between the age of 18 and 25 and if they've never been arrested or no complaint is ever made how do you check they are a domestic abuser if they try and join the police at 26? There's no psychological test that detects domestic abusers, and if there's no record anywhere you can't find it during vetting, and that's in a state with decent record keeping and a working system. My specialism is failed state vetting where the records have been destroyed or you can't tell which record belongs to whom, and it's impossible there too.

@@thesethreekings I don't think that's the aim, the aim is to show that there are SOME in the police force who shouldn't be working there. And I don't think it's unreasonable for police to go through a background check before being hired, because police are responsible for protecting citizens. Of course it would be crazy to apply background checks for every profession
