I don't see Bill's talent in his paintings, I see his love. I learn from him not only how to paint with the techniques, but I also learn how to be a happier person. God bless you, Bill, and thank you ever so much. I love you.

I could listen to Bill’s words for DAYS. He remains a treasure that I’m very thankful I discovered on PBS as a child. I was mesmerized from the start. Moreover, the fact he trained Bob Ross and what could’ve been had he and Bob found a way to work together instead of Bob going to associate with the snakes that control his legacy today. I hope more and more people discover Bill and understand he was every bit as wonderful a showman as Bob and fantastically talented. Truly a legend. Thank you for posting his legacy on this channel!

      I so agree with you!!
I am a retired Art teacher. I watched William Alexander when I was in college. He simplified many techniques.
His techniques were ripped off by a former student, that's right, Bon Ross!!
William was the original and the best!!
Always loved watching him. And his presentation was the best!! His MIGHTY trees instead of happy trees!!! I have watched them all but he was my favorite!!

I love that you explain things that someone may not have noticed while watching. Bill did not have enough time to explain everything that he wanted to, so that you are able to take the time now I think is amazing! I am most certainly on TEAM LET BILL TALK!! I love him, he makes me laugh, he makes me think. He is missed! He was the best!

Thank you, Cathy. I had the privilege to be present many times while Bill was painting for an audience when he had more time. I know the things he told them. I was present for many of the recordings of these videos as well. I know how frustrated he was that he couldn't tell people the details of what he was doing because of his time constraints. These will always be companion pieces to the full-length shows.

This is FANTASTIC! Thank you so much for this video - it helps sooo much! And I'm firmly on the "talk is great" camp because everything he says is so great and important - it's a privilege to hear whatever he has to say. A true master.

This new approach is terrific and serves as an in-depth complement to the original long-form video. I like both: Listening to Bill talk and this innovative "focused" format and can benefit from both versions (and will!).

Thank you for these videos! Great explanations of his techniques! I am inspired to paint again after long hiatus...have just tried watercolors. Vastly different medium,! Thank you!!!

I loved listening to Bill as he instructed us. He really connected with his viewers and his passion was contagious. I often found myself too zealous when i was doing his paintings, especially mountains. That pallet knife was powerful! He is the GOAT. I recently had to grab my chest because i was at a thrift store and bought a can of his original paint thinner with some still in the can! I think Bill wants me to pick up my brushes again❤

Generational differences. I’m nearly 60, my family and I LOVED Bill for his talks, and I still do. I learned plenty from his TV and now UA-cam shows. Youngns need their quick videos for their short attention spans. I hate short videos and watch many painting videos and documentaries. I will never watch UA-cam shorts. I couldn’t be bothered.

    I love hearing Bill talk.
While he waits for the magic white to settle, he often talks about how he sets up his paintings in his mind first, long before putting paint to canvas. I so enjoy hearing these musings. They teach me much.

I like both. I have watched Bill for a very long time. Way before Bob came on the scene.....I love to hear him talk about what he is doing and sometimes I just like to watch him paint.
That is a tough question to decide which........

  • @jimbrown6060

When Bill comments, he’s teaching - whether that was his intent or not. There’s more to Bill’s teaching than just the painting. He’s teaching all of us how to be better people. I’ve always believed that Bill could say, “Good morning” and I’d be smarter and a better person as a result. Bill is so much more than what he puts on the canvas. I took his classes back in the ‘70s but never met him. I wish I could have.

Thank you for your input. This format is to be a companion piece to his full show. I wasn’t clear on my question because I would never take Bill’s talking from the shows. The talking in question was the times when he wasn’t painting. We are getting an overwhelming response that people love to listen to what he has to say through out the shows. Thank you.

Brian, thank you for your comment. That is exactly what these videos are, a companion piece to the standard video. We have linked the full show at the end of this piece. The original videos are on our channel for people to view. These companion pieces are meant to provide more information. This is the information Bill would tell people when he did workshops and demonstrations and had more time. It was frustrating to him that he didn't have the time to explain his techniques in more detail on his half-hour shows. Thank you for your comment.
