No kidding. There's a section in his memoir "I Am Brian Wilson" where he mentions where they got into an altercation with each other. Became so heated that Brian went up and punched Doctor Landy in the face. I mean, you have to be a real, special brand of cruel in order to merit getting slugged in the face by the person you're being cruel too.

John Cusack as the more-reclusive and damaged Brian following the mental breakdown. Paul Giamatti as the insufferable and abusive psychologist taking advantage of Brian's vulnerable state. @mooman4798 Рік тому

I'm not sure, but my guess is that "Rob" was probably one of those extra three or four guys who were sitting with Brian, Melinda, and Landy at that cookout. Landy had several goons (known as "The Surf Nazis") who took turns watching Brian at his house when he was under Landy's 24-hour-a-day "therapy." They wrote down and recorded everything Brian said/did, supplied drugs to Brian (according to Landy's instructions), and reported everything back to Landy. They also went with and followed Brian everywhere he went whenever Brian went out in public somewhere. I don't remember hearing that any of those goons were named "Rob..." I'm guessing that "Rob" was probably a generic name that they used for this film to avoid lawsuits. Just my guess, though. In his autobiography ("I Am Brian Wilson"), Brian doesn't mention this particular incident, but he does say that Landy used to have cookouts at Brian's house, and that he (Landy) only invited his doctor friends, family members, and staff employees to said cookouts. Brian's own family and friends weren't allowed.

Have you ever heard of the goose that laid the golden egg?
Brian is the goose that can't stop laying golden eggs. Everybody who has ever come into his life has done nothing but try to force him to lay more golden eggs faster so they can make money off of him.
Based on my lifetime of amateur research, I have concluded that so-called "doctor" Landy started off with the best of intentions but, once he developed a full understanding and appreciation for Brian, his genius, and the ease with which he could be manipulated, the temptation was just too great for Eugene.
It's also obvious that old Gene has some serious control issues which can never be sorted out.
The man saved Brian's life and got him cleaned up and healthy. Twice.
But, I also believe Landy hatched a plan to "accidentally" kill Brian to reap the benefits of having Brian will everything to him

Dr. Eugene Landy exerted around-the-clock control over Brian’s life, monitoring his diet and love-life and kept him drugged on heavy medication for what he falsely claimed was a mix of paranoid schizophrenia and manic depression.

Eugene Landy was truly awful. However, it should be noted that had he (or someone else more capable) not helped Brian early on, Brian probably would have eaten himself to an early death.

@@richardmckrell4899 Let's say that's true. If it was, then that's amazing casting because he fit the role perfectly. In the movie, he had the voice of brian, the physical tics and mannrrisms, etc. He genuinely looked like someone who was not ok physically and mentally. SPECIALLY in this scene, look how he opens his mouth to defend himself when Landy is shouting at him, but nothing comes out. He is almost trapped in his own body.

Why do they have to use such awful profanity when they make movies like this. Taking the name of God in vain over and over. I was going to rent the movie, but the profanity is not acceptable.
