Molly Shannon’s physical comedy is unparalleled.
So true! She COMMITS.
Agreed. Take it from a retired journeyman actor, physical comedy is probably the toughest assignment one can be given. It not only requires commitment, timing and a body in decent shape, but most importantly safety. So you can do it for 8 performances a week.
Only maybe by her predecessor Gilda Radner who threw herself so hard into a closet door that she broke a rib during dress rehearsal for the "Judy Miller Show" sketch.
Overrated, the word is overrated...
Agreed
I remember when this skit first aired. Perfectly captured how Madonna and Courtney Love were trying to clean up their images. Hilarious.
they where just so desperate it was so sad
@@jmann6130 What? Why "sad?" They have booth been doing pretty good ever since.
Courtney struggled and eventually beat a heavy addiction problem, that is true. But in what way did Madonna try to " clean up her act?" She wa always in control of her life and career. I am glad Courtney did not stop being punk , though
@@lovelyvividly Madonna had tried for years to get treated as a serious actress and Evita was in her mind a sure win for Oscar nomination however it only got her a golden globe and a few years later she quit acting and left Hollywood with a rather unimpressive IMDB page
Courtney Love was always pretty clean-cut, she just got attacked by the media for being a genuine human and not a stereotypical pop-princess.
Always loved to see Molly as Courtney Love -- pretty well captured everything about her in the 90s.
Even the bruises she always had on her legs
Molly looks really sexy as Love.
Nobody comes close to whatever Cheri Oteri’s energy is! 😆🙌🔥
Frrr
The Courtney impression got too real. That's the thing when you're an amazing actress beyond the comedy.
Molly Shannon is incredible.
Molly just hosted SNL, and reminded us what a great a performer she is.
The late 90s were golden for content to work with and that cast performed spectacularly. I really miss those times.
The late 1990s were great in every way. Everything has gone downhill since then, including SNL
@@danmseattle975 those are some great rose tinted glasses you're wearing! Nostalgia's one helluva drug
@spatchmo6938 so is the cocaine they did during that time.
It's a trip down memory lane whenever celebrities are parodied. No matter the time period - if you're parodied on SNL, you mean something, lol!
You made it, baby!
Mark 8:36
King James Version
36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
This skit showcases the strengths of this comedic trio: Ana Gasteyer, as the chameleon who vanishes into her characters; Cheri Oteri as the spark plug of unbridled energy; and Molly Shannon as the crazed wild card who goes over the top!
I'm just here for Courtney Love tribute. Love it.
Was the pun intended?
that introduction of Courtney Love is fucking hilarious....because she was courting the award season...she tried to clean up her image.
Cheri Oteri, insane, brilliant.
Lorelai Nokomis Yes!! My favorite part!
SHOWBIZ!
You forgot underrated
so underrated
Molly Shannon, also -- insane and brilliant. Love the way they capture the desperation of Madonna.
Ana Gasteyer is playing Madonna
Madonna isn't shown as too 'desperate' in this sketch - more like falling back on her winning the Golden Globe, as consolation for being snubbed by the Oscars.
The old bag.
Ana didn't capture any of the essence of Madonna. If you want to see a well done Madonna, forward to Kristen Wiig playing super bowl Madonna.
The bruises on Molly Shannon made me LOL 😂
3:08..." Nice try VANEREAL GIRL" 😮😅😂😅😂😅😂😅😂
“Nice try venerial girl”. Lmao just got that “material girl”
nothing gets past you
Same just got it
it dont mayter anyway
Not venerial girl. 😆😆 That one got a laugh out of me.
Sheri Oteri reminds me of Martin Short so much. I wish she was in more these days
ZEB YES 😂😂😂
6:03 it is the best "Live fom NY.." version for me now.
*Who else is waiting for Courtney to throw a compact at Madonna??*
I came here for this comment. Thank you for your service!
I don’t get it
@@scouser2010ify Look up Madonna vs Courtney VMA
that manic impersonation of debbie reynolds was hilarious! [tappity tap tappity tap.. taptaptaptaptaptap!!] SHOWBIZ!!!
Everything about this sketch has aged. And I love it
I miss these 3 ladies! So funny and talented!
that Courtney Love impression tho
"Nice try venereal girl" Hahahahahaha !
T Paul best line in the skit!
T Paul 😂😂😂😂😂
Best line of the sketch!
R. I. P. Debbie Reynolds & Carrie Fisher 😢
Molly Shannon killed that intro!!
amazing how molly's guitar kept playing after she unplugged it.
Molly Shannon was always so committed and brilliant and funny. What a bloody legend!!
that debbie reynolds impression also works as a really bad liza minelli impression
@salokin G Cheri Oteri
Funny, bc Liza is the daughter of Hollywood “royalty” like Carrie is to Reynolds.
hhahaa cocaine strung
We need a CHERI EPISODE THIS YEAR!
Cheri Oteri is seriously underrated.
Shannon's live performance at the end was better than most live acts at that time...lol.
These women are amazing!!! Awesome performances
"Mmmmm that's good tea! "
'I bet'.
@@waynej2608 I wonder what was in that tea!
Venereal Girl 😂
"Mattress Back" 😂 and Molly was awesome!
The Courtney Love parody is beyond. 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Back when SNL was actually funny.
I miss Cheri Oteri so much!
"Nice try venereal girl" 😆
Debbie Reynolds's backdrop was the house from Matt Foley's sketches. XD
Hehe. Her guitar isn't plugged in but it makes noise properly.
Lol
Cheri oteri was the cutest ever, I miss the old cast.
She is my favorite by far!
RIP CF and D R.
That suicide joke wouldn't fly today, but it is absurd enough to be funny.
Cheri oteri and molly Shannon, 2 of the best!!
This was when SNL was still great.....Debbie Reynolds impression was spot on....so good. Ted Koppel was so funny too. I’ve seen better Madonna impressions. But, still their very worst was still better than today’s best.
The snl cast during this era was top tier
The misogyny in a lot of the comments. Yikes!
Anyway, Cheri Oteri was just so darn cute as Debbie Reynolds. Always loved her as Debbie and Molly as Ann Miller in the Leg Up skits. For me these are the years when the women regularly outshone the men.
Those ladies were awesome, darrell too, Live from new york, i really miss u!!,
The bruises on Courtney are a nice touch!
i'm here just for courtney love, amazing molly!
One of the greatest cold opens ever.
That was the best SNL lineup ever!! Well, at least mine.
Someone really needs to upload Molly Shannon as Tori Amos some day
This portrayal of Love was taken directly from an interview she did with Barbara Walters 😂
I like when she stuck the tissue in the sofa
Cheryl Oteri is hilarious. Love her!
Cheri O'terri should be more famous than all!
I love Cheri Oteri she was always one of the best!
The lady in red has bangs on top of bangs.
And that clothes is real from the 90's!
The mom from the Goldbergs wears stuff lile that.
My mind is kinda blown.
I used to have a suit just like the one Molly Shannon is wearing, lol.
The only time Debbie Reynolds was ever nominated for an Oscar was for her starring role in The Unsinkable Molly Brown.
Which was a fine film, though "Singin' in the Rain" is still my favorite of her movies.
This was a great time for SNL.
Sheri Oteri was in scary movie 1 in the role of Gail Hailstorm, she has a unique voice.
5:44 Holey moley Molly, Love it.
Darrell Hammond 👍🏻😄😂😆
Man I forgot how funny these era sketches were. I loved molly Shannon's Courtney love. Felt cheri oteri should have got more work too.
I know right, I thought Cheri was so great.
Yeah, a real shame. Lots of funny women (and men) that never really survived post-SNL. I remember shaking my head when Rachel Dratch randomly popped up in a Ruby Tuesday commercial on TV the other day.
He does a good Koppel
That's a pretty damm good impression of Madonna.
Molly looked really good here
Cheri Oteri is so funny! !!
Cheri Oteri is underrated
Cheri Oteri didn't get Debbie's voice right at all. Debbie talked like a 1950's debutante.
She’s always the same and always damn funny
She caught Debbie's late career essence, and had some fun with it. All three gals were amazing.
Good Lord!!! 😂Thank God for Cheri Oteri!😂❤️
Debbie Reynolds! Bwhahahahahahahahhahahahaaha
"Get your facts straight Debbie!"
Cheri has a great body and she's a crazy Virgo like me
Live from New York it’s Saturday Night!!!!!! 😂
I miss these ladies on snl !! So hilarious
RIP Carry Fisher😩
Actual Internet trash And Debbie Reynolds.
It’s Carrie
there's no way suicide could be a joke nowadays.
mm no youre just sensitive
@@leojohnson3045 no i'm not. i'm not offended. i'm making a reference to the general culture that we are living in. also, being mindful of others isn't a negative. sounds like you're callous.
Remember Molly Shannon impersonated Tori Amos? 😂 .this cast was my childhood. My favs.
Cheri O. sounds like she's doing her Barbara Walters impersonation .
MOLLY!!
I love Cheri Oteri!!
Omg Molly Shannon! 😂
I love and miss Molly Shannon!!!
I want "Courtney's" pink guitar!
"Matress back" 😂😂
SHOWBIZ!!!!
How isn’t Cheri Oteri a megastar?
bahhahahhaa i knew it was courtney love from the thumbnail
😂😂😂 the way Molly Shannon slams her foot down
I feel bad laughing at "debbie Reynods", given how she and Carrie both died.
This era was when I started watching SNL again.
Molly Shannon owned it
I think I prefer funny women over men. They're fuckinh great.
@oktopustrainer first of all therevareclesbians second no not really
In the first 20 years of SNL (1975-95) I only have one women in the top ten of it's cast:
1. Will Ferrell
2. Jim Carrey
3. Phil Hartman
4. Eddie Murphy
5. SHERI OTERI
6. Chris Farley
7. Dana Carvey
8. Richard Pryor
9. John Belushi
10. Bill Murray
I prefer to cum over grumpy ugly men
🤣🤣🤣♥️♥️
Courtney Love really was robbed! But she should have been campaigned as supporting, not leading. Also, Emily Watson should have won that year for "Breaking the Waves"!
Emily Watson was so good in that movie. I found it a bit hard to watch because it was so cruel.
Back then, on shitty box television, you couldn't tell they were reading the cards. It always bugs me these days, but you can see it here too.
OMG his reaction to Golden globe was priceless!!!!
This sketch should've gotten more views.
