Ellen, I am a fairly new soap maker, and actually I tend to make everything but bars of soap. I consider you my Professor. I love your style, your attitude, your willingness to share and teach without charging any fees. I love that you are always sharing where to get good deals on ingredients and tools. You are a rare one here on UA-cam and I'm just so thankful for you. Please never stop teaching and sharing what you are up to in your soap studio. Thanks so much for your bright light here on the tube.

Ellen you can also take baking soda and put it on a baking sheet and put it in the oven on low for 200 keep an eye on it think I was told to keep it in the oven for a few hours and it's basically what washing soda is:) Hope that helps!

Ellen, I use homemade laundry soap, because my 20 year old Autistic son had horrible eczema. I started making soap, skin care when Wyatt was 8, he's now about to turn 21. About 2 years into making soap, I made my first laundry detergent. Between my homemade soap, cream, and laundry detergent, Wyatt hasn't had a breakout in 12 years or so. Wyatt understands not to use regular soap. He takes a bar of homemade soap and his cream everywhere we go. Including hotels, even to Disney, lol! 😂😂😂
I love your recipe for laundry detergent, it looks like a good one! ❤❤❤

This recipe is amazing! My ratios were close, but a little heavier on the soap gratings. It’s worked so well on my laundry that, when confronted with cleaning a patch of concrete in my garage where friends had hung their deer a few days before, I grabbed this laundry soap, dissolved it and drizzled it on the stain. It came up in seconds with just a couple passes of a push broom. Thank you for sharing your recipe!❤❤❤

So I love this recipe for whites and light colors. I do question the liquid formula only because I know with percarbonate, once it mixes into water, it activates, and only stays activated for a couple hours or so based off my own research. I’m assuming that’s why you got the foaming at the end when you mixed it. do you think it is worth putting the percarbonate in the liquid solution or maybe saving money and making a solution without the percarbonate, or just mixing your powder in with warm water and then throwing it in your tub just before you start your darks. Just some thoughts and opinions , absolutely love this mixture and has been doing wonderful for me !

Hi again Ruth I just wanted to give you an update on this washing detergent powder recipe. Now when I was using shop bought pods which I chucked into my drum never the detergent compartments I would get a dodgy stagnant water smell and mold in my drawer where the water flows from the pipes into my washer, also if I didn't pull the load out and left it overnight in the washing machine the clothes would stink and have to be washed again and I had to leave the door open so it wouldn't smell . Since using your recipe my washer doesn't smell even after the door has been shut and leaving the clothes in over night there's no smell at all no stagnant water smell or mold in my drawer either. I will never go back to shop bought crap it was obviously damaging my machine and pipes. I have a washing machine insurance and they recommend using a washing machine cleaner, I was using that every few weeks, not now I don't need it.

Hello, I saw your video and was very excited to try it out. I bought all the ingredients and made the laundry detergent, just this past Saturday. I still have not used it because I still have some remaining from the store bought detergent. Anyway, on Sunday a video appeared from a homesteader explaining why she doesn't use homemade laundry soap any more. Some of her claims are that homemade Landry soap is bad for the High Efficiency (HE) machines, also that after time her towels weren't able to absorb water, and her clothes became stingy and dirty looking. You can imagine how I felt.
So my question to you is, how long have you used your homemade detergent and if you have experienced any of her claims?

Ellys is a 1:1 with the washing soda &soap. But doesnt use the other ingredients and only uses 1 tbsp. (For the recipe ive been using) I wondered if you think this would work upping the soap portion? I enjoy making my own laundry soap. I have the same brand of sodium percarbonate but I hadn't thought of including it when I make my powdered laundry soap....I just made a batch recently...I'll just add some sodium percarbonate to it !
I use Borateem, washing soda, baking soda & a plant-based soap. I use various scents of bar soap. I always grate the soap on the finest side of my box grater. A long time ago, I tried using my food processor, but oh my gosh.....dust was flying out of it & I was coughing. So I prefer to just use the finest side of the box grater.
Some people don't think it's necessary to use baking soda along w/washing soda because baking soda is what's used to create washing soda. But I use both.
I use 2 tablespoons for a large load & have had great results. There's just my husband & me & we don't have major laundry challenges.
