Top Ten Forgotten Adult Swim Anime

- After talking about Toonami a couple of times, I want to look at Cartoon Network's other block that features a lot of anime: Adult Swim. Many of us know Adult Swim for some of their original shows, but it was also a treasure trove of anime throughout the 2000s. Sometimes we got some classics like Cowboy Bebop, but other times, they showed us anime that wasn't on the mainstream radar. So, for this video, we want to look at some of the shorter or lesser discussed anime Adult Swim aired before they brought back Toonami in 2012. Judgment Meter and AT from Software Agents HQ.

I watched Kekkaishi in middle school and thought it was so cool. I've been trying to Google it forever but forgot the name. It's a nice coincidence it pops up here.
Was literally just think about this anime and all I remembered was "dude with dope impenetrable box magic."
Now I have to watch it in order.
Kekkaishi was my SHITTTTT me and one of my best friends still randomly shout “KETSU/METSU” at eachother to this day 😅😅
It’s on Crunchyroll
me too!
Remind me of zatch bell
FLCL, Witch Hunter Robin, Cowboy Bebop, Eureka 7, Samurai Shamploo, Inuyasha, Big O, Shin Chan!!! Man. My childhood was filled with shows an 8 year old shouldn’t see but man I fucking loved it!!!
Witch Hunter Robin , Big O🥰🥰
You and me both dude I love my childhood because of this really made me the guy I am today
The irony is that Shin Chan is considered a children’s show in Japan.
@@phabiorulesThat kinda shocks me. I say that because I heard people felt like it was an attempt to mimic some of South Park's humor.
You must watch FLCL and Cowboy Beebop again if you haven’t yet. The meanings of them change as you grow.
Moribito is a underrated gem and one of my favorites. More people need to watch.
Yeah I didn't know this was considered a forgotten series. I loved it!
Balsa was an absolute beast.
@@Talthain Yeah 👍
Surprised to see people mentioning Moribito. One of those stories you can't really appreciate fully until the second go-around.
I specifically bought Moribito like right after I finished it, such an underrated series
Finding random anime in the early 2000's was always something you'd see one and never see it again or just not see it for years and then it makes you feel like you're back at that time great video man
Thank you! I wish there was a randomized way to find non-mainstream anime again since it's amazing how much anime they showed us beyond the popular ones. I used to do that with streaming services when I had time.
Early 2000's anime has lots of hidden gems like Argento Soma,Project ARMS,Gungrave,Baki 2001 series,Peacemaker etc
I remember an Adult Swim bumper calling Blue Gender "Futurama meets Starship Troopers".
Futurama - because main character being cryo frozen and awakening in the future
Starship Troopers - because fighting alien bugs
I love how much Adult Swim used to cross-reference anime with western animation. They were one step away from doing the Kids WB crossover ads with Pokémon and Batman.
Came here to mention Blue Gender
I remember them saying the bugs' mouths looked like angry vaginas.
They called Kikaider "Astro Boy meets The Fugitive"😂
I always thought of Blue Gender as an original extraterrestrial mecha apocalyptic romance!!! I have the original DVD set still. I love it after all of these years!!
Witch Hunter Robin and Wolf's Rain were absolutely fantastic. Often airing right after a random Space Ghost Coast to Coast filler. Who ever set that line up knew what they were doing all to well. Nothing like getting in a great laugh in to get smacked across the face with intellectual emotional action dramas.
Witch Hunter Robin and Wolf's Rain are top tier
these were my mom's favorite shows! They were definitely going over my head but she loved them so I still have a soft spot for them. It was Robin in the thumbnail that made me watch this video!
@@JudgmentMeterif you used to have a dog the ending of wolf rain will bring tears
Yes!
Just reading the titles makes me tear up, these were my bread and butter (along w Inuyasha). Big O was my sister's preferred!
Excuse you, DNAngel was not that obscure, it’s required reading for weird anime middle school girl in the early 2000s
And wierd anime boys who got recomendations from their female cousin cause it was a strangely entertaing show lol
When he called DNAngel obscure I did a double take, naw a lot of people recognize that one 😂
As Real-life Risa Harada I wish more people remembered DN Angel.
@@risaswonderland right spread the word and the wings of the best art thief and heart stealing angel
i loved that manga when i got into manga in early 2000s. We only got 13 volumes translated here in Denmark though.
Paranoia is such a fantastic show and really worth watching if anyone hasn't seen it yet. It's openning alone is real haunting in a good way.
All around the mulberry bush
I recently watched it and never knew it was on adult swim till watching this video. Must have started airing after I quit watching TV. I agree about the opening, it's creepy af and the weird upbeat song makes it so unsettling. Great show.
Kekkaishi was dope. I wish they finished animating it. The manga went hard.
The fact that Super Milk Chan has a dub to be more Japanese accurate and another for Westerners is astonishing. This could be the solution to today's translator issues but a costly one.
Fun fact about S-cry-Ed, it’s by the same director as Code Geass, and the director said in a magazine interview once, that Geass and S-Cry-Ed (and his other show infinite Ryvius) are a part of a trilogy. Not a trilogy in the “same universe” way. But a trilogy in theme: they all explore a different type of society. Geass and S-Cry-Ed also have similar themes of discrimination
That director is bad at his job.
Needs to watch Shinseki Yori.
Thats awesome love code geass and s-cry-ed was an amazing piece of work.
Paranoia Agent’s adult swim “trailer” captured me. It got me hooked and has led me to not only fall in love with this amazing dark story with chefs kiss animation, but to Paprika and other Satoshi Kon masterpieces
S-CRY-ED WAS THE BEST ANIME ON ADULT SWIM
They didn't really explain the Alter thing very well considering it's a power that is legit something you create via your own mind. Making an alter power whatever you wanted it to be. Which to me was the sickest part of the show.
Agreed. S-cry-ed was a rollar coaster ride.Kruger was the best character
GREAT 👌 MR.TOPTENLIST TOP TEN FORGOTTEN ADUIT SWIN ANIME. SERIOUSLY,
My child brain says Kekaishi was king
@@XohjaiSbarkeater Easy 2nd place for me
I didn't even watch your video, but WITCH HUNTER ROBIN SPOTTED IN THE THUMB NAIL, I HAVE BEEN SUMMONED.
haha, I'm glad she's doing her job of getting us attention!
Summoned by the witch
Kikaider was the show ive been looking years for. I swore to myself it wasn't just something I imagined up. I also remember the feeling of the protagonist being stuck in a cave during winter or something but never remembered what show it was. I even googled adult swim to see all the anime it once aired but never saw the title. Thanks for this.
The aesthetic of these are amazing. Pre-shiny stupid looking digital art, but barely cleaned up from the early 90s. 90s-00s anime aesthetic is king
The shiny look puts me off modern anime so much, man
Kekkaishi got a sequel anime, which was meant to air on Toonami but they revoked the decision to do so for some reason
When I saw the whole series also I believe the failure also been due to the manga I remember reading the ending of the manga and was like yeah that happened.
I don't think it got a sequal anime.
Definitely didn't get a sequel. I rewatched this again a couple year because and only what was on Adult Swim was made.
What's the name of the sequel anime?
I'm just here to say that I will never forget about Kekkaishi.
Even though I have forgotten everything about the plot, it's deeply ingrained in ma soul. (Badum tss)
Super milk chan is absolutely adorable!!! I'm so glad someone else finally talked about it!
I swear it was the only show on there that would get me on the hollering from laughter on there ahhhhhh it's good lol.
Bean bean bean bean
The intro alone is amazing and hard to forget about and then her constant "you dumbass!" in her little baby voice was always great. My sisters and I still sing the song and shout "you dumbass!" at each other to this day. Such a great and fun show.
If you did include Trinity Blood on the list, I feel it would've shared a tie spot with Blood+
Adult Swim essentially aired two anime about vampires at roughly the same time.
Actually, I only watch anime with "blood" in the title
Thank you blood + is one of my favorite animes ever and I've never heard a single person talk about it
Blood+ was great. Holy, the memories watch that series. The openings were awesome too, considering they had a Uberworld one for the 2nd.
s-CRY-ed feels like it would have been an amazing early 2000s JRPG for some reason 😂
I loved S-Cry-ed. The ending fight was soooo cool
Me too! I loved scryed so much!
Kekkaishi was my GOAT back in the day. I adore the works from Yellow Tanabe, I'd recommend Birdmen for reading if Kekkaishi interested you!
Honorable mention goes out to Wolf's Rain.
Thank you so much for making this comment. I was trying to remember the name of that one, and only clicked this video in hopes I'd figure out it's name, and I noticed your comment half way through. Core memory unlocked for me and my lady
Moribito just gave me a huge nostalgia hit. I've never been one to try and catch every new episode of a show, and would normally just watch whatever was on whenever I happened to be watching TV. I saw one episode of Moribito and afterward never saw a single episode broadcasted after that and kinda wondered what happened to it.
I remember seeing the novel a few years ago
The one thing I remember about S-CRY-ED was that it had a BANGER soundtrack .. I still remember the intro like I was watching it yesterday.
I still love Wolfs Rain ending ost. Adult Swim premiered at a time when it was still not so easy to obtain anime/manga outside of some very niche stores (Suncoast, Robotica etc). I was a teenager and this felt like the golden age of animation.
We love Wolf's Rain! If we do a followup on "iconic Adult Swm anime," it will be there. Despite running as long as some of these anime, something about its advertising and treatment felt big, like Adult Swim was giving a lot more attention.
Kick a** soundtrack, indeed
Yoko Kanno is the GOAT
Where's Blood+? it's more forgotten than Moribito, which took it's time slot after it finished its weekly run, then it had one rerun the on the weekday, and then Sony forgot about it.
You can't even find Blood+ anywhere outside of certain special sites. No DVDs (except overpriced volumes), no Blu-Rays, no streaming options.
@@lainiwakura1776 A few years back it was on Tubi but it was only on for a few months before it was removed and there is a blu-ray Japan only unfortunately.
Love Blood+!
Good, that show was awful. It was Inuyasha but with vampires. Totally betrayed the source material, and was boring while doing so!
@@lainiwakura1776 yesss, all of the online copies online i found were so bad quality, like 600px wide haha
Hold on, I remember Kekkishi. I feel like it was also shown earlier because I swear watching it when toonami was officially a part of Adult swim when I saw in high school
kekkaishi was that anime that lives rent free since it was a good anime but I keep forgetting the name
Nah it never aired on toonami. Toonami didn’t even exist when it aired which was 2010-2011
@@tedmack1945Toonami has been around a long time. Wikipedia says since 1997. Though, I don’t remember when Toonami came on before it was part of Adult Swim. I just remember the brand existing.
@@FullmoonPhantom-dn2sr yes I know it came out in 1997. However it was cancelled on CN in 2008 and didn’t comeback on the airwaves until it was revived on adult swim in 2012
I remember hearing the theme song for paranoia agent when i was 3 or 4 on the tv really late at night
Its one of the few memories i had that young and it really sticks out every time i hear it
Satoshi Kon chose it because it aired late night in Japan and he was trying to wake the audience up.
I was 14 at the time this aired. Truly was one of my favorites
I just remember Blue Gender from the epic trailer they would show on DBZ tapes lol
Same except for me it was on Yu Yu Hakusho tapes. It looked like an interesting show but I had no clue it ever aired on adult swim.
That sounds oddly woke
Man, I LOVED Moribito.
Both Witch Hunter Robin and s-CRY-ed are great anime!
WHR is like Buffy The Vampire Slayer & X-Files
sCRYed is like another version of X-Men
I loved s-cry-ed!
I loved s-cry-ed!
I like that comparison
Their is a manga called area d its xmen if they was in a open air prison
S-CRY-ED was peak
Witch Hunter Robin only stood out to me because “Half Pain” by bana is one of the greatest songs I’ve ever heard ever.
Ever.
Shell followed by Half Pain is just an amazing combo. I really love the soundtrack for Witch Hunter Robin.
Nah you buggin on S-Cry-Ed. Show was sick. I still think about that last episode pretty often just cause it was some hype action that iirc didnt even have any effect on the plot but was just EXACTLY what you wanted to see if you were watching the show lol.
I rewatch s-CRY-ed every so often because it's SO good. Sure it's not perfect and some of the animation is... questionable but THE BONES ARE GOOD MAN I will die on this hill
Holy shit, I remember Witch Hunter Robin. O.O my god... that one was aaaaaaaaaaaall the way in the back of the dustiest corners of my memory! I remeber watching that show online back in 2006 or something like that.
Scryed is named after the protagonist's sibling, the little girl. While dreaming she Scrys on her big brother, Kazuma "Punching Arm" the Shellbullet.
Basically every episode starts with her narration of her dreaming and Scrying on Kazuma as he does hero things or explaining his emotions as life craps on him for being a Jerk with a heart of Gold.
Moribito is one of my favorite anime of all time. It's so good. I had no idea it ever aired on Adult Swim.
i’ve actually been waiting for someone to make some sort of video on this for so long u have like no idea
Glad I could accomplish that! This was a passion project for me, too, since it's a level of nostalgia I don't see on UA-cam often, outside of compilations of Adult Swim/Toonami ads.
i’m really grateful you made this video, not many people on youtube acknowledge the impact adult swim had on adult oriented anime in the early 2000s
I share that 8-10 period of wind-down and sleep as well now J.M. As long as my insomnia and crippling anxiety don't keep me awake, that is. Being awake because you are uncontrollably worrying about the consequences of not getting enough sleep, is the worrrrst! 💛
Scryed is soo good. The music is fantastic and that ending boy that ending. No powers,no talking, No saving the world just two dudes beating the crap out of each other to see who is the best
Reckless Fire is an absolute banger. I personally like a lot the 2011 version that's even longer than the original
I'm always a fan of an anime that shamelessly does the whole "punch hard" brute force fights
I know paranoia agent because if its op. It fits with the theme and everybody’s laughing while the world is getting destroyed
Oooooohhh, now I understand. That always bugged me.
And then the credits has everyone asleep around a giant Maromi. Weird show, but a good one.
@@kidprime6863 the op is the definition of "let’s get some burgers and watch the world burn"
BRO, I FORGOT ABOUT THE ANIME WHERE THEY BATTLE WITH BLOCKS. THANK YOU, YOU UNLOCKED SOME CORE MEMORIES
I never forgotten Super Milk-Chan, Android Kikaider, Wolf Rain, s- CRY-ed, and Paranoia Agent.
Android Kikaider was one of the most beautiful animes I ever watched as a kid. Legit cried. AND OMG! S-Cry-Ed! That anime lives RENT FREE in my head and no one talks about it.
I remember watching pilot candidate on a chanel called locomotion, but it was short lived and I was a religious kid who wasn't allowed to watch anime, but I caught short glimpses while channel surfing. I clearly remember the scen of the cat girl being embarrassed by having her hat knocked off and some of the goddesses, but i didn¿t watch the show when I grew up because I had it confused with evangelion, wich also aired on locomotion at the time. So that was about 20 years ago, and now thanks to youI can finally watch it knowing I wasn't crazy for imagining a cat girl wearing a hat was in that show.
The catgirl especially stuck out since it felt like a random design choice. Once her ears were revealed, I don't recall it being a major factor again outside of just being a design choice.
I think Locomotion aired many shows that were shown on [adult swim] in the U.S., shows like Cowboy Bebop, Candidate for Goddess? Super Milk Chan, Wolf's Rain, Blood+, Death Note, Bleach, among others, were shown in Locomotion, which eventually became Animax later, in Latin America. The way more mature anime was broadcasted in Latin America was weird in the 2000s, due to economic problems there weren't as many shows dubbed like in the late 90s, and the quality of dubs differed a lot depending if the show was dub in Mexico or Venezuela
I personally think things improved a lot in the mid 2010s when streaming made anime much more accessible, we now have much more anime dubbed than before
Y'know, I'm actually surprised that Wolf's Rain, and Ergo Proxy didn't show up on this list!
Ergo Proxy was on G4, Fuse, and Funimation Channel, not Adult Swim.
@@Murillos1 Ah, k. For some reason, I remember it being on AS for a short period of time. I might be getting it confused with the fact that Witch Hunter Robin was also on Fuse, before going to Adult Swim
@@zman8626 Witch Hunter Robin was NEVER on Fuse, having been a huge Fuse kid in my middle school and highschool days, I basically watched no other channel and know it was never on there. But Ergo Proxy and other similar animes were.
I feel like Wolf's Rain should have been at least mentioned since it was back to back ran with Witch Hunter Robin and they felt similar in terms of atmosphere and stuff.
@@oldladytrexarms Oh dang, I miss remembered alot, then! But for some reason, I keep remembering some kind of magic based anime on fuse! Maybe I'm getting fuse mixed up with ifc, or something
I actually finished a full rewatch of Paranoia Agent about two months ago on Crunchy Roll.
Satoshi Kon's work was always excellent, and this show was truly a gem. The problem was if you missed certain episodes, you were basically out of the loop until you could catch it again. Thankfully that's not an issue these days, but when it first aired, that was immensely frustrating.
Paranoia Agent had some interesting themes around taking responsibility for oneself/relationships/job/etc. and the anxieties (Lil' Slugger) that can plague us from avoiding said responsibility; it's still quite resonant with a modern audience.
In hindsight, it's funny to hear Sam Riegel as Lil' Slugger and Liam O'Brien as the younger detective, given their close friendship today. I wonder if it was this show or another show that really cemented their relationship.
Top 10 cutest archetypes in Yu-Gi-Oh
I freaking love Milk Chan. It was so funny, and its humor felt right at home on Adult Swim
Super Milk-Chan is so crazy, man. Fun fact you can watch them on here. Paranoia Agent was such a psyche ride, lmao.
The opening theme was amazing.
Oh man Witch Hunter Robin has such a special place in my heart
DNAngel was probably my first manga that I picked up in my middle school library
Man, I remember everything on this list but that first one, Pilot Candidate. I think Blue Gender scarred me in ways I still haven't fully realized, though still remember fondly. If I remember correctly, S-Cry-ed's name comes from its manga. It's a big thing that's revealed late in the series that plugs into the Alter ability. A fun show, and manga. Witch Hunter Robin was great, definitely worth a rewatch. Paranoia Agent too, that one was a trip.
I loved when Adult Swim showed anime that had no comedy to it. Blue Gender felt like the first full-on horror that they showed. Even shows like Cowboy Bebop had their light-hearted episodes, but Blue Gender, and later Paranoia Agent, were super creepy watching at 1 am.
I’m glad I’m not one of the only people to remember Moribito. That anime actually was really fucking good. It got a live action adaption as well.
Android Kikaider,S-CRY-ED and Super Milk Chan one my favorite anime on Adult Swim.
What I remembered through out the years most about Paranoia Agent was the opening. I recently rewatched in a few months ago and it still freaks me out.
InuYasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, Pilot Candidate and Gundam 0083 were my go-tos, with Reign The Conqueror as another fun one.
Toonami started Adult Swim around the same time that Starz Action Channel would run “Animidnight” on Friday and Saturday nights, where they’d typically show “Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040”. G4 TV (formerly the International Channel) would also run the “Crest of the Stars” franchise, “Serial Experiments Lain”, “Gatekeepers”, and a few other bizarre series.
Oh hey, Witch Hunter Robin. Never watched it myself but my sister loved it a lot and I know a bit about it through her. I always thought Robin's design was really good and unique for a female MC
Not too many anime with essentially an innocent girl from a convent as the main MC; let alone one that's religious yet is a witch and turns out to be the mother of witches related to those from the Salem Witch Trial times. Not a character background you hear of often.
The one advertising for Blue Gender I saw was on a DBZ tape or DVD, I can't remember. They made a point of mentioning the show had the voice actor for future Trunks from DBZ.
It's funny how much they used to push "voice actor from DBZ" on their old dub ads as if it was uncommon. I love the classic Funimation crew, but they were in every Funimation dub at the time since they were still a small company.
Eric Vale
It was one of the Cooler videos wasn’t it?
Top 10 pink -
Pink Power Ranger, Kirby, Majin Buu, etc.
Moribito is severely underrated, it may have a average plot, but that average plot was well executed. I love the action, lore, characters and more. You call it filler episodes, but I disagree, those episodes gave room for the audience to digest what was going on and gain depth on the characters. Like the episode when chagoon beats the scammers, it shows his intellect and how he was fostering an understanding for the common of his father’s kingdom. Again a criminally underrated show. And with the info that you just gave in the messy broadcast, I can see why a lot of ppl don’t know much about it.
I have very vivid Memorys for Pilot Candidate so much so i still have a dvd of it from when i was a kid. I loved the series but i wish it actually got an ending.
I've literally been trying to figure out what kikishi was called for years with only remembering a single episode
You'll never find it with that spelling, it's Kekkaishi.
Witch Hunter Robin was cool. Must rewatch that. Blue Gender is interesting qnd it's kind of like Starship Troopers, it changes tone several times and plot
S-CRY-ed was all we talked about in highschool it's SUCH a good series. Hands down one of the best adult swim ever had.
Anime that had Steve Blum voicing the main character just worked for Adult Swim
Lol he's an icon for a reason
@@MrTopTenListSteve Blum, he is the actor who dubbed Spike from Cowboy Bebop in English, right? He also voiced Kazuma in s-CRY-ed? That's amazing
Here in Spanish-speaking Latin America s-CRY-ed was dubbed in Venezuela and Kazuma was voiced by Luis Carreño, who is better know for voicing SpongeBob, though he has also voiced some anime characters like Xellos in The Slayers and Iida in My Hero Academia
Fun fact: Pilot Candidate's time slot was given to Inuyasha when it started airing.
Pilot Candidate was really fun, and the orchestral music rivals the best anime OSTs.
It was a bit too on the nose with it's pro-Nazi/Eugenics propaganda though...
DNAngel is still one of my favorites ever, was crazy that she finally finished the series. In regards to Candidate for Goddess iirc she has never finished the story lmao
A lot of these I've never heard of... I may be tempted to check a few of them out now though :D Love watching these anime videos
Glad I could influence! I love talking about all the old anime they used to broadcast since it's a discovery process that is obsolete now, so it's good nostalgia.
Kekkaishi getting recognition yesss!!!! Moribito was a bit slow in some places but it had the right stuff and beautiful animation!
I NEVER forgot Super Milk Chan (literally will do the random intro song or shout "you dumbass!" to this day with my sisters), Witch Hunter Robin (my favorite anime; I have a shirt and DVDs with film slides included in them), and Paranoia Agent (my middle sister's favorite anime). I shockingly didn't know about or get to see the April Fool's Day thing with Witch Hunter Robin, so that was awesome that you included it in the video. These animes and Toonami animes were a huge part of my teen years. Another good one I was surprised didn't at least get mentioned alongside Witch Hunter Robin was Wolf's Rain. These two shows back to back were amazing. Then let's not forget . Hack//Sign who never gets credit for doing first what SAO essentially stole as its plot. The theme song and characters were so cool.
Never forget Kekkaishi. They make fighting with cubes look so cool. Got the whole series on DVD, and I'm almost done collecting the manga.
Moribito was my favorite show for a while. It was so good
I vaguely remember a few of these. Super Milk Chan and Paranoia Agent were incredibly confusing. I do remember Kekkaishi and more distinctly remember S-CRY-ED being for it being very action packed.
Wouldn’t hurt to have a mini list of contenders for the number 1 spot, sort of how mothers basement does their tier list.
Other than my personal gripe great vid, I like how the passing was done and how it didn’t feel off when you swapped to other people’s perspectives.
S-CRY-ED, and Witch Hunter Robin were my favorites when they aired. Gundam 0083 Stardust Memory was another good one as well too. The other best one that doesn't get enough praise is Trigun
Trigun got a new anime
@@johnlawful2272 that is really cool 😎👍
I'd forgotten all about s-CRY-ed! And now I have "reckless fire" stuck in my head. Thanks.
Wolf's Rain!
All I can remember was the opening animation. Or maybe it was the closing animation. A wolf, running in the rain ☔!
And I think it had cool music...?
It was the main white wolf, Kiba, running through the snow, & the song was called "Gravity," by Yoko Kanno.
That animation & song were just beautiful.
. Hack//Sign, Blood+, Trinity Blood, Inuyasha, Trigun, S-CRY-ED, Moribito, Cowboy Bebop, Ruroroni Kenshin, Eureka 7, Yu-Yu Hakusho, Cyborg-009. The list is endless
I remember watching Milk-chan on the Comcast "On Demand" app and thinking it was the Japanese equivalent of a stoner show. Even to this day, no one I talk to, even the most hardcore weebs, have never even heard of it. Thanks for finally making me feel seen!
It's one of the few on this list I actually remember watching. I watched it for same reason I watched aqua teen
I still remember it from when I was in highschool. The intro alone is so annoying that my sisters and I will randomly sing it to annoy people. Then there's her constant catchphrase of "you dumbass!" so whenever we hear the word Dumbass, that's where our brains go. It was a fun show. Could never forget it.
Witch Hunter Robin was my favorite show when I was was... younger... I used to set my VHS player(yes, I know I am old) to tape it at night and I would watch it as I got ready for school. I do have the book shaped box set and the osts. I used to call it CSI with witches. I still binge watch the series from time to time. That being said... I under how obscure it was. For years, it was not on most anime streaming sites(both official and not) and I remember many conversations where the people I were talking to had no knowledge of the show.
For the longest time I was looking for Kekkaishi as a teen because I saw an episode as a kid, but didn’t know what it was called. I love that anime and wish it was continued
Moribito is one of those underrated classics. I wouldn’t have been able to tell you what it was about but I remember it making me feel something
I'm in canada so we got a few of these shows on non specialized channels, but I remember renting S-Cry-Ed on DVD multiple times and never finishing it.
Yea Kekkaishi was always good,i read the manga recently and it was great
Know where I can read it online by chance?
Pilot Candidate: Watched all the episodes as a kid, couldn't tell you what happened other than cat girl and woman mechs.
Moribito: Only saw 3 episodes. It was cool looking, but never saw the other episodes.
#3: (so not to spoil the whole list): I remember this one. I thought it was really cool. Even tried to do RPs in my internet infancy. I agree it was very Shonen Anime.
#4: I was really into history at this time, and thought the anime was some "Sequel" to the History Books I had never seen (I was also very gullible. Partly cause of my Autism.)
#5: I absolutely LOVED this one. I was obsessed with robots and loved this and Cyborg 009 because of that. I remember as a kid being so sad at the ending because in order to become Human he had to throw away his Humanity.
#6: Yeah, I remember this one. Could not understand it as a kid. I do remember laughing at it for the absurdity though.
#7: Oh, I remember this one too. If you wanted me to watch something, show me Mechs. But I ended up getting bored as a child because not enough mechs. I'm sure I'd appreciate the show now. I did get confused when I saw the Submarine one, thinking it was the same anime.
#8: So, this one I did not watch on tv. I did watch a couple episodes later, but never got to catch this one.
#9: Again, I remember liking this alot. An older friend of mine actually loved it so much he named his Daughter after Robin. and yes, I remember Trinity Blood also. XD What about Blood +? Blood C? Blood the Last Vampire?
#10: Yeah, this is the one that as a Kid went "Okay, I should stop watching this one." because of the "Daddy! You have to call me Daddy!" scene. I saw the first few episodes til that part, then missed everything til the last episode. I was so confused.
this list literally has most anime which i may or may not have watched on a similar channel dedicated to anime, animax
kekkaishi was aired there way back 2013 on animax (and the channel was in its last hurrah before being plugged out by sony india)
i kinda missed out on witch hunter robin, its OP was beautiful and story was interesting too
good to see trinity blood being mentioned, i used to watch it a lot which came along side blood+ back then
I’m glad to see Morbito and Super Milk Chan there ❤❤❤. Love them both so much ❤❤❤
Milk-Chan! OH MY GOD THANK YOU!!!! I suddenly remembered this show out of the blue, but could not for the life of me remember the name!
I personally own the blue gender DVD set. I also have the moribito , and I also own scried and which hunter Robin.
My wife and I still yell Super Milk Chan's "You Dumbass!" catchphrase at each other to this day!
Born in Hawaii and grew up in Japan, I remember watching some of these older series at friends houses on video tape.
Reign and Witch Hunter are some of my all time faves
Reign the Conqueror wasn't an anime, it was a fever dream.
Super Milk Chan was my favorite! Never saw it on Adult Swim but when it was on Netflix for a moment.
One thing ppl dont point out about pilot candidates is the heavy, lonely atmosphere. The viewer really felt like they were up there in a spaceship in deep space.
The anime has a melancholy vibe.
I remember Moribito vaguely. The show put me to sleep and I could never understand the plot because the kid had something in him that was going to hatch. My mom got me a book about the show from Barnes and Nobles' years ago.
you're not alone dude. I think I gave the show a fair chance multiple times, but it was just so boring! lol
Definitely not something that would interest kids. I only remembered it because I thougbt Balsa was hot when I was a kid, but I tried it again once I was older and I really enjoy it.
Yeah, I’ve tried to give it multiple chances but I often lose interest around the episode where Balsa gets hurt and Chagum has to find the medicine man Balsa told him about.
S-cry-ed, Blue Gender, big o, and paranoia agent were amazing
Moribito: Moribito of the Spirit sounds like it would be a good lead-in to Demon King Daimao.
Witch Hunter Robin was quality and there's just something funny about her having vision problems. "To make you a better fighting waifu wear these glasses that will make you MORE WAIFU!"
Story of my life
To be fair, her powers of fire were essentially damaging her eyes. Lots of people in the show with the craft get mental issues or physical things that happen due to the craft so it makes sense. But I always did love the concept.
