The Manga was of course better it's only like 12 volumes but thicc books and there was more to the ending honestly the anime needs to be remade if not rewritten!

Actually Akame mean "read eye"(the name really suits her 😁), suprice suprice the bird on the Night Raid logo also have a red eyes so it can be Akame or the organization it self.
If you really want to pick a single MC then yeah it is Tatsumi but prety much evryone else as well in the organization.

Just to clarify some things. The reason why the anime ended this way or turned into some kind of hybrid after Ep.19 is because back then when this was airing the Manga wasn't finished ( iirc it was in the 50s chapterwise) so they decided to go for an original ending since they couldn't include plotpoints like Wild Hunt for example. Without going this route they would have needed at least 12 more episodes and even then it wouldn't have worked because the manga wasn't finished at this point in time. Judging everything, I think they did a good job to wrap the story up with what they had. Who knows, maybe there will be a remake someday and then we get the Princess Knight Catue ending just wholesome ;).
If you ever have time to read the manga version, I suggest starting from the chapter when Chelsea died (chapter 33).
Btw, there are two related manga titles,
1. Akame Ga Kill Zero as a prequel story where the setting is from the point of Akame being trained as an Assassin until she joins Night Raid.
2. Hinowa Ga Crush as a sequel to the manga ending version where Akame's next destination is told (ongoing manga).

The making up a new team on the spot was a cool idea, my thoughts for any sort of sequel would be another country or continent out there who wants to conquer the land our dead-raid just helped take over
They made this anime super depressing despite the manga kind of having a acceptable ending. Okay I like to recommend kabeneri of the iron fortress hear me out smart but weak mc fights clockwork zombies with guns while protecting survivors while slowly turning into one as all hell breaks loose with a steampunk samurai chick
