That was a good quote. British snarkiness can be funny but gets quickly tiresome. My husband went to a posh school and he can be a borish arse 😒 especially when drunk.

Is that really "dark academia," for Bennett (Firth's character) to see the injustice in colonialism and rigid system in the very class-conscious society in Great Britain?
@@s.l.3673 "Dark Academia" means "kids who like to look at Insta pics of books instead of reading them". It's hardly a very stringently bounded category. Seeing injustice in colonialism, supporting colonialism, both of those have very likely been in books, as far as they know.
I just watched Kingsmen and I'm now rifling through his old stuff And in the wise words of my friend who loves cute and adorable things I use her words here and say *He baby*
As an American, I could listen to Colin all day. I think he’s better looking now. I mean, he started off cute, of course … but now he’s handsome and sexy as hell.
As the English proverb says, tastes differ. Oscar Wild is one of my favorite playrights, his plays The importance and the Ideal husband are masterpices. I was disappointed. Both were too old for the parts.
Colin looks completely different in his twenties, unless you get a really really close look. Still good looking, but it’s just like looking at completely different men!
I remember when I saw this movie in the eighties. And I had not idea who Colin Firth was at that time. Much later I discovered him , and I admire him a lot...and only now I know he was part in that movie. Wow. Really cute indeed.
I fell in love with Colin when I saw him in "Another Country" in 1984 - if you haven't seen it, find it online - you won't be disappointed, even if you are not in love with Colin! :) :) :)
At 1:12. I know a bit of Mandarin Chinese, and I learned something new! 謝天謝地不 means literally "Thank heaven, thank earth, no!" This is the translation of the English "Dear me, no." LOL. I didn't know the Chinese were so hyperbolic with their insults! LOL.
THIS is how I remember the 80ies!! :D ... I'm not saying everybody looked like that in reality, but, THOSE were actual fashion, style, and conduct role models!! Well, certainly one reason why everybody looks so ridiculous to me these days. ...
I still have the program somewhere from the London stage play (pre-movie) with Colin and Rupert. Now I'm wondering if Cary Elwes was also in the stage production, which was rather brilliant.
I remember watching Another Country years ago, the last line of Everett's, "I miss the cricket" (for he'll never play that very bourgeois game ever again in his life after betraying his country). It's a beautiful movie.
@@thesedreamsarefree It's a bourgeois game, same as golf. Soccer, on the other hand, is a great equalizer that players can't keep avoid sweating or getting the perfectly pressed white attire clean and free of mud in a game of soccer. It's the same reason why it's such an irony, that Bennett betrayed his country in the pursuit of socialism, but in his heart, he still missed the cricket (which he'll never find in very socialist land of Soviet Union). Outcast like Judd and Bennett, they were ideal recruits as spies, with upbringing from the upper class but never feel belong, forever reminding us of the Cambridge Four in the real life.
@@thesedreamsarefree Cricket is hardly "global" and it's only played by a few countries that are former British colonial subjects. That's precisely the irony that Bennett's last line in the movie shows: It's bourgeois, but he grew up with it and he loved it, though he would not play it again. If you cannot see that irony, there's nothing more I can say.
@@thesedreamsarefree Whether a sport is propagated down to the mass populace or not, it doesn't make a difference in its bourgeoise origins. In fact, you can say the same with rugby and tennis too. We're talking about a movie that depicts a bygone era (from the 1930s). These days, very few sports are sectioned off exclusively for elites, with a few exceptions perhaps (like yacht sailing) that are also being popularized by cheap(er) membership for yacht clubs. His face looks so young but his voice is old
Exactly. You wouldn’t expect a voice like that to come out of someone who looks like they could be 16 or 17.
Hi Nicole, how are you doing?
Hi James, I am doing fine, currently in lockdown. Yourself?

So THAT is why Colin and Rupert are -seemingly-such good friends. Whenever they are in a movie together, they are magnificent.
Back then they supposedly hated each other but have since made up and become friends.
Peter allen
They didn’t like each other at all apparently, when they were filming this at least.
michelle stein-evers frankl They only became friends recently.
What movie is this
Colin Firth, the patron saint of dark academia.
I don't even know what this sentence means
Nope. Its Hugh Grant and James Wilby in Maurice.

Oh and there's Cary Elwes too - well that's just all made my day.
Triple yummy: Colin, Rupert, Cary ... not to mention all those other pink-cheeked lads ...
both of whom remind me of my favorite ex-bf..... no wonder I liked him!
Ditto!
"Unlike other Robin Hood's, I can speak with an English accent." - Cary Elwes, Robin Hood : Men in Tights.
Killed it!
I saw Princess Bride in the theater in 1989 I think and I had the biggest crush on him!! ❤
As an American, I could listen to Colin all day. I think he’s better looking now. I mean, he started off cute, of course … but now he’s handsome and sexy as hell.
I second this 😂
He and Rupert Everett were later marvelous together in 'The Importance of Being Earnest.'
That is a great movie
As the English proverb says, tastes differ. Oscar Wild is one of my favorite playrights, his plays The importance and the Ideal husband are masterpices. I was disappointed. Both were too old for the parts.
Colin, Rupert and Cary!! What a treat!
He's so hot , young , gorgeous and his voice !!
Get a grip
I mean I don’t see anything that’s not correct so
Sure, but have you SEEN Hugh Grant in the movie Maurice though? Like wow!
Agreed, but don't forget Rupert Everett and Cary Elwes!
@@rumblefish9 Hugh Grant's another one!!
Colin and Rupert seem to be a great pairing. Every thing about them. Voice, hair and looks👌🏽

He's always been gorgeous!
Awww.. He is absolutely adorable! I just love Colin Firth!! ❤
THAT'S Colin Firth?!?
I never would have guessed that in a million years.

Very cute young Colin Firth, not to mention very cute young Rupert Everett AND Cary Elwes!

I can totally imagine young Darcy and Wickham interacting like that XD he was so prettyyy my god!
WHY WHY WHY hasn’t someone made a movie of the young Darcy and Wickham?!
Omg Colin Firth does look better older, he ages like fine wine
Great film. So Openminded for almost 40 years ago. Many famous actors are in this film, just begining

Omg good lord his voice 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Not Just Mr Firth.
Plethora of young ( and coincidentally handsome) talent, of which many went on to good things eg Rupert Everett and Cary Ewells
I fell in love with Colin when I saw him in "Another Country" in 1984 - if you haven't seen it, find it online - you won't be disappointed, even if you are not in love with Colin! :) :) :)
When I saw him in that movie, I knew he was going to become a star. "...heaven on earth? No, earth on earth."
Um, this is a clip from ‘Another Country.’
Same here. I loved them all, Rupert and Cary but Colin was something else. That beautiful voice :)
This is a clip from Another Country. Did you mean A Month in the Country when he played Birkin and Kenneth Branagh played James Moon
I can remember watching and liking that film back in the 80s
"I don't have to try. I *am* clever." OOF COLIN 🤤😍🔥
Has no one else noticed that Westly from The Princess Bride is there?
Yes, that's Cary Elwes.
I spotted him too.
I have
What a gem. Thank you!!!
He's so gifted with his voice
Kid: why do you have to be against everything ? Harry: well I quite like butterflies
Also a very cute, young Rupert Everett and a very cute, young Cary Elwes.
Милый талантливый мальчик.Сейчас ,на мой взгляд ,самый лучший актер.Который может все.
They're all so young! 🌹
Oml he’s a great actor and he is the patron of my cousins theatre group ( they met him how luckyyy)
Rupert, Colin and Cary. Let's just call this young gorgeousness
Collin Firth, 1960 vintage, aging well but ready to drink!
Clicked for Colin Firth, stayed for the young Cary Elwes & (always savage) Rupert Everett
In terms of cuteness, Carey Elwes puts Colin Firth in the shade.
Hugh Grant in the movie Maurice. Thank me later. Also James Wilby and Rupert Graves also damn cute.
Absolutely
I see a young Rupert Everett and Cary Elwes besides Colin. They all sound and look beautiful.
I love the 'co-starring Rupert Everett' - haha! This is one of my favourite films. Totally beautiful.
Is that Cary Elwes too?
Yes, you are right, he played James Harcourt :)
He is so unbearably beautiful here and he only got more beautiful as time went on.
Not only a young Colin Firth, but Cary Elwes “Princess Bride” and Rupert Everett “My Best Friend’s Wedding.”
love colin and this is the movie that made me fascinated with him. such a good actor!
So cute then, So Handsome Now.
Great actor, Mr. Darcy always.🥰😎
Firth played the Rupert Everett part on stage, very close to the time this was being shot.
his VOICE made me WHEEZE
They are so young!!!Wow!!
They are all so young!😍
“Farmboy fetch me that pail” …damn i love that haircut on guys!!
Oh, this film... I loved it when I watched it, even if it broke my heart.
also Cary Elwes in there too, I think doing the hitting in cricket. All so young!
Hi Sarah, how are you doing?
He is so cute😍😗😚
The guy I kept eyeing is actually Rupert Everett? Good.
The title could also include Rupert Everett and even an appearance by Cary Elwes!
He is like a fine wine, even better when aged. But his voice already sounds handsomely old
love COLIN AND RUPERT MAGNIFICENT

Harry before Kingsman whipped him into shape
He still managed to break the rigid rules of it though.
Oh yes, Mr. Darcy! I love that man❤
Colin's so adorable! And was that Cary Elwes???
Cary Elwes was/is a hottie 😎jum
I need to watch this ASAP
Omg Mr. Darcy!

Very cute young Cary Elwes and very cute young Rupert Everett too :D
Oh wow his voice never changed
Is that Cary Elwes? I need to watch this entire movie!
Omg, was that Cary Elwes, too? The princess bride.
Man, I want to see the whole movie now.
Hi, how are you doing?
Omg Mr. Darcy and the dude from the prince's bride!
SO MANY CHARMERS in this film! I must watch it ASAP
They are both super attractive like wow
Colin, Carey, and Rupert!!! Oh wow! So many degees for Kevin Bacon!
I still have the program somewhere from the London stage play (pre-movie) with Colin and Rupert. Now I'm wondering if Cary Elwes was also in the stage production, which was rather brilliant.
Gosh!ANOTHER COUNTRY 🏆 how many great actors were in that film 💛
And Robert Addie (RIP), who also played Sir Guy of Gisburne in Robin of Sherwood!
sorry but i like older colin better. i guess i just found my type of guy.
His voice definitely matured but it was always sexy. I need to find the full movie now!
This clip already looks more riveting than bridget jones diary
Not only Colin Firth but young Rupert Everett and Cary Elwes to boot!
Loved this movie...Rupert Everett!
Oh my goodness!
They look like babies 😄
He's fantastic.
Well, you've got half a mind, we can all agree on
that. LOL!
Wow, a very young looking Colin Firth & his very baritone vocals. Just wondering what year this film was released? I'm thinking the mid to late 1980s.
Sooo purty!

Bowling. In cricket, it’s called bowling.
