I think the author was a bit biased in dealing with yagami the way he did. Ayano is a mc so he had to win anyways for the plot. Still yagami is a very i nterestingn charecter. He deserved a better ending. Hare Krishna.

Ayanokouji is the frog, knowing very little about the world outside of the white room (the ocean) but knows he is the best in it because of what he had to endure (height of the sky)
To sum it up: he may not be able to beat everyone, but is absolutely confident when dealing with other white room students
