  • This is a short video of our brief stay in Chamonix in summer, part 2 of our 3-centre French Alps adventure!
Cable Car, Téléphérique, Funivia - whatever you call it - the Aiguille du Midi is Trip Advisor’s Number 1 in the 'Things to do in Chamonix'! This is expensive, but absolutely worth it. Viewing the Mont Blanc Massif. We also took the superb additional Gondola to the Pointe Helbronner in Italy, with amazing views. I’d definitely recommend making this extra journey. You should note that this is pretty much a full day out. You can’t just cram it all in.
Next day we caught the montenvers railway to the Mer de Glacé glacier and explored the ice cave. Apart from the hundreds of steps down (thanks to the receding glacier) from the railway station to the ice cave entrance, this was just a few hours out, though if you’re feeling hardcore you can hike up for views of the glacier instead of the cute little train.
We went out the following day for a budget busting trip to Les Gorges de la Diosaz. At under €5 per person, this sleepy but beautiful attraction was a hidden gem. A relaxed stroll along the sturdy man-made walkways in good weather was just what we were after. We walked into the nearby village of Servoz to stock up on the essential cold meats, cheese and bread before heading back to our apartment for lunch.

At 01:40, you can actually see the Matterhorn in the far distance. Thanks for sharing!

Hi Chris, for your info you are no longer in the French Alps but in Savoy. Since 1940, Savoie is no longer part of the French territory, although the bloody frogs are still squatting here
    Cheers

Hi Christian, thanks for sharing! Can you please tell me what the acoustic guitar music at the end of the video is called / the artist? Lovely video! Looks like you had an amazing holiday!

Hi Jan, we absolutely loved it in the Alps. We’ve had some beautiful holidays but this was great, plenty to do but relaxing at the same time. Just great. The rather nice music track you mention is from the UA-cam creator selection so is free to download. It’s called ‘Acoustic Guitar 1’ by the artist ‘Audionautix’. If you’re looking to visit Chamonix yourself have a great time!

Hello Chris, thanks so much for sharing! I'm planning to visit Chamonix in March! We are driving from Paris as we are quite limited in our days, but do you remember how long it took for you to see take the Aiguille de Midi up to Mont Blanc? And I remember seeing Alpine Coasters, do you know if that was generally in the same region?

Hi there, glad you liked the look of it. We loved the Alps. A really lovely place to spend time. The Aiguelle du Midi was almost a whole day excursion for us. We queued for a while right from around 8am and didn’t get back down again until 3-4pm from memory. You may be able to save some time by skipping some of the museum bits at the plateau, and then the cable car across the Mer de Glace to Helbronner is optional... but it’s also one of the best sights, so as you’re there you’d be missing out if you skipped it.
I also liked the look of the Alpine Coasters but we were only in the area for 2 nights and had too much planned to squeeze them in.
Where else are you planning to go to?

Hi, can I experience the snow in November?
Cable car of aiguille du midi will be closed during November :(

If the cable car is closed for maintenance I’m quiet sure you’ll still be able to see some snow. Check if the Montveners railway still runs, to see the Mer de Glacé and the ice cave :-)
